Kawaii ~ cute, adorable.
Otaku ~ fan
Konnichiwa! ~ Hello
Sayonara ~ Goodbye

Domo arigatto - domo arigatou ^.^;
Suki Da - This is very informal. It means more of.. I like you. I love you is aishiteru.
Otaku - Yeah, it means fan here now.. but in Japan it means a freaky and obsessive fan. It's kinda negative.
Konnichi wa - Means good afternoon, not just hello.

Let's try to refrain from posting here unless you know Japanese or are taking a class.. x.x
hantai - hentai.
baitoware - err.. well, baito is just our word spelled Japanese style. Plus not many people use "ware".
nicchuukantougou - this one is the one that made me laugh. ^_^; Japanese in Japanese is "nihongo".
keisanki - may be true, but "konpyuuta" is used more often.

I've been to Japan for almost a year, but I forgot everything **sniffs** sad - yeah...
That's what happens when you don't keep up with your japanese dialect any longer. All my friends speak English here in Canada, obviously. I lost my sense of wording... ish bad... boo-hoo-hoo >_<
But nobody complains about my english, that's the good thing. ^_^ I thought I lost the nerve to speak English when I came back... lol

you can PM me if you need Japanese help. Been studying it for almost 3 years and, if I cant think of the right way to say it, I'll just ask my coworkers. Or better yet, my students. They rock at insults. @.@;
But yeah, shiori ryu would be white dragon. Shiori = white ryu=dragon

Um...yeah. I'm majoring in Japanese, so..er..um..I can help a little. And no, it's not shirai..you had it right with shiroi... Don't even know what "shirai" is...shiraga is grey or white hair... *blinks*
Hideeho135 says:
nicchuukantougou-japanese
....I want to know where you got that. I have never EVER heard of that. Ever. Like Suzuna pointed out, Japanese (as in the language) is "nihongo." A Japanese person is nihonjin. Japan is Nippon or Nihon. To get pretty much any word for a certain language, you take the country name and add "-go" on the end... Make sure that it's the country's Japanese name, though... And you can't say Americago or anything..or even Englandgo... It would be Eigo. But, like French is furansugo, and German is doitsugo... You get the picture. ;)
Suzuna
11-07-2004, 04:17 AM
I wanna know where "nicchuukantougou" came from too! I see ni and go... but that has to be the funniest word for "Japanese" that I've heard in quite some time.

MistressPookyChan
11-07-2004, 04:37 AM
if you want a head start, memorize hiragana and katakana right away. it will help. oh, and stay away from romanji. it sucks. I've gotten to the point where I cant read romanji as well as I can read hiragana.
Wolfwood
11-07-2004, 04:41 AM
ok then... now im more confused but thanks all the same... i have been watching all my anime dvds in japanese to get used to the language and its help quite a bit. but writing it is what im going to find hardest.
MistressPookyChan
11-07-2004, 04:44 AM
Sorry, but anime is not a really good way to learn Japanese as a beginner. The language they use in anime is not what you will learn in Japanese 101. They use slang, regional dialects, odd accents, etc etc. If anything, use the anime to get used to hearing japanese sounds and accents (except for characters using Osaka-ben or something...)
Suzuna
11-07-2004, 04:45 AM
Wolfwood, what Pooky just told you was to get a head start on writing. When we type in Japanese but using English characters, that is called romaji or romanji. Examples:
konnichi wa = romaji
こんにちは = hiragana
コンニチハ = katakana
And... I dunno the kanji for it, but kanji looks more complicated. XD
Wolfwood
11-07-2004, 04:50 AM
yeah, thats what i've been doing. getting used to the language is all im trying to do at the moment. i tend to watch the world movies channel alot. things like volcano high and the princesses blade are great shows and because there in japanese im getting used to the language. also me and my freind copy the japanese writing on anime dvd's covers to decorate pages for our art subjects witch annoys our english teacher because we write more in japanese then we do in english.

And you can't say Americago or anything..or even Englandgo... It would be Eigo. But, like French is furansugo, and German is doitsugo... You get the picture. ;)This brings up a question I've had for a while. I already knew this much.
But I can't figure out for the life of me what the Japanese word for "Arabic" is.
Arabic spans 2 dozen countries over 2 continents, so you can't really just
use the country it's spoken in and add "-go" this time. Does anyone know
what this is?
Die Tod von Euch
11-07-2004, 04:26 PM
Lance, Arabic is arabiago, according to my dictionary. Which, makes sense...since it's from Arabia originally...hence the name.
Suzuna, what's so silly about dancing like a monkey? It's fun! :P
Edit: what does one need to be able to type in hiragana, katakana, and kanji like Suzuna's doing?... Anything special for the comp, or should it already be able to do that?...

Lance, Arabic is arabiago, according to my dictionary. Which, makes sense...since it's from Arabia originally...hence the name.Hmm... thanks. However, there isn't nor has there ever been a country
of Arabia. This is more like the Arabic word for "Arabic" (العربية Al-Arabiya) +go.
I suppose that probably is the best way to do it in this case, though. Too bad
that's such an awkward word to say. Hah.

because it's off-topic here. I took those things into consideration and I still
think they went with the name of the language. You can either take my
word as a subject matter expert on the Middle East, or PM me for a detailed

No, it doesn't really. If you don't know what that means, don't look it up. It will scar you for life.

MP2k...Why would you post that word? You know someone who doesn't know what it is is going to be tempted to look it up and...well...have difficulty sleeping for several months.
Anyway, I attempted teaching myself Japanese, which was difficult, but I had to give up due to my lack of free time which allowed me to do so. The college I want to go to has a Japanese class, but considering they also have a German class, I am not sure as to which I would like to take.
