Actually, I can explain that. It happened to me too, only with report posts and that.

The forums email has been broken for awhile, and it was fixed recently, and sent out all the emails that were queue'd in it's box.

Queue'd <-- spelling on this anyone?

Email had problems sending for a bit now, and once fixed, it decided to grace everyone with all the messages they had coming to them O_o; in a single shot.
