As I said, I have invited many people here (this year even). Most people look at the site and are either disinterested or laugh. Nobody wants to come here when better options exist and more experienced anime fans are there to talk with.


This site has no redeeming qualities that other places don't do better. Its just a waste of time to them. Can you blame them?

I re-joined just a few days ago, and I looked around first, and it didn't seem THIS dead, but, either I didn't look close enough or I 're-joined' on a good day where people posted.

Call me an old fart, but I personally don't like social media for talking about things. I use tumblr mildly, and both of the current shows I'm watching (Were new when I started them but I got behind) I got spoiled. That's why I like message boards. You can look and say "Oh, My Hero Academia thread? Better not go in there!"

Also it feels so impersonal. Someone posts something, you can reply to it, but it will probably go ignored. If you want to have a conversation about it, no such luck.

It's the same thing with other things too. My favorite singer used to have a message board and it was great to talk to other fans, and occasionally, he would stop by himself. But now, all that is gone because of twitter and things like that. And I will admit... I did join twitter a few years ago just to send one tweet, to him, to play a song when I saw him that he hadn't been playing, and he did.... o.o

But even so, even if that wouldn't have happened, I prefer message boards. To me it's just easier, and more orginized.

The site is in a persistent vegetative state.

I show up to the hospice care maybe once a year, sit down and say hello, talk about what's been going on, make some bad/dad jokes, get no response whatsoever to the backdrop of a steadily beeping electrocardiogram and oxygen saturation monitor, leave the flowers, and just go back to my life again until eventually I feel guilty about not visiting for a while.

Not sure I'd call it vegetative.. at least things in veg states are relatively together, if non-responsive. This forum has lost an eye-ball and a good portion of it's rotting flesh has fallen off, producing the unmistakable odor of something that should be dead but hasn't realized it yet for some reason. This place is a zombie. I stop by here once in a while only out of sheer morbid curiosity to see if/when it will finally stop so much as twitching.

But then with each occasional post I become a part of the problem.

Not the most active forum I have ever seen, but that might be a good thing. I have noticed that slower forums like this tend to be MUCH more friendly, while the one's that are relatively busy are full of trolls. Even then, it is the threads that are the most contentious that get the most replies.

It eventually feels like those forums bring out the worst in people. A slow low key forum, on the other hand, everyone is polite and treat people like human beings. Plus, I like having a place to talk about song translations :D

Actually, an Ouroboros is not necessarily a bad thing. When it eats itself it doesn't mean that it's zoning itself out into nonexistence; instead it is immortalizing itself.

You see the infinity symbol above The Magician's head? That stands for forever. However, what most people don't understand that just because something is "eternal" doesn't necessarily mean it's in an upward flux constantly. There are down points and there are up points. Much like when waves come to the beach and then leave; when we breath in and out; when the market goes up and then goes down. Life is about ups and downs and periods of work and rest. Daily life, for example, is that we're up during the day and we sleep at night(or whenever our work/school schedule allows). Going to sleep is our down time. Being active is our up time. Evil gains power, Good becomes weaker; Evil becomes weaker, Good becomes stronger. It's even evident in our yearly cycles. Depending on what hemisphere we're in(and I'll be using an example of the Northern said), we have winter and we have summer. Sure, there's a transition between them but they're when the sun is strongest and when it is weakest. The sun gathers strength up until Litha(Summer Solstice) and then wanes through the rest of the year until it's at its lowest point at Yule(Winter Solstice). We have all of these examples of Eternal Life in our mundane surroundings that we forget their wisdom.

Just because there isn't a big influx of writers on the forum right now doesn't mean we won't peak later on. There will be periods when activity is low. It's not dead until the Admins say so.

I personally love forums like this. I used to visit forums like this all the time. I don't mind that it's a little quiet around here - I find that a lot of social media these days make one feel they need to be connected 24/7 or else they'll miss something. Forums like this allow members to view and post at their leisure. The posts can and are typically longer than something you'd see on most social media save for copypastas and have a lot more depth.

Anyway, I don't think this forum is dead and I'm happy to keep contributing even if it's reviving old posts or making topics that have already been talked about. Until I get warnings I can't stop won't stop.

I give you credit. You're dedicated. Probably slightly delusional, but dedicated. Look. What are you fighting for? This website has been abandoned by like 99% of its userbase and probably has been abandoned by most of its staff as well. AF has done very little to address the issues that existed 6-7 years ago. However, I dont really blame the admins. I just don't think people care anymore. We are all getting older and have ventured out to different places. Life has gotten busy for some. Others moved to different platforms. I loved AF. I really did. I once fought for it too, but its 2020 now. I respect your dedication, but the userbase that used to post here have aged. I'm nearing 30. Some of the staff are probably nearing 35-40.


I remember waking up at 15 years old and coming onto here with a smile. I was a kid. AF isnt just a forum, but a collection of memories for some people. You're a good guy, but I don't understand what you're fighting for as I said. Do you love AF? Do you want AF to regain its activity? It. Won't. Ever. Regain. It. The people who call AF a ghost town aren't wrong. With that said. If you want change, its going to need to start at top. Inviting people will not work. Yelling at people who say this forum is dying and telling them to leave/contribute is just driving them away/addiny pressure to them. Making 20 threads that get 3-4 replies will not work. AF will need to evolve and change its entire foundation. That is simply the only avenue left. However, I wouldn't blame anybody if they didn't feel like doing that. As I said, its 2020 and a lot of us are getting older and have issues in our lives, are busy or some other third thing.


I own a discord server with 5000+ members. Maybe id be willing to host an event there that would take place as a thread on this forum. That might cause a temporary boost. I'll think about it.

Forum leaders don't go around the forum telling everybody who has even a slightly negative opinion to "get out. grow up" or "you are on an anime forum but dont post in the anime section?". The latter which you apologized for so you yourself even realized your behavior was out of line. All you do is go around saying things like this anytime somebody is just being honest about the situation. Kaitou has offered a lot to this forum and his opinion is very valid. Also, like or hate me I have still posted 9000+ posts and have been here long enough to know that infact, the glory days are most likely infact done. I say most likely because there's a slim chance if MANY things go right. Stop telling people to grow up. Before I digest this logic, let me first point out that the guy you just called "awesome" in that post is also the same guy you told to "grow up" a few posts above. That one line alone discredits already a decent portion of your post. Also, banning me would have absolutely zero impact on my life so saying that doesn't really mean much to me. I do admit I've made a few a-hole posts from 2015-2017. Ban worthy? I don't think so. Questionable? Sure.

seriously. My tone is very in your face admittedly, but in the last two years you've insulted more people here than I have. If you're a leader,you shouldn't tell people to leave the forum who bring valid complaints. There is absolutely nothing wrong with people mentioning and saying it. Instead of telling people to leave the forum/grow up, work with them you know? If you have a plan to bring AF back into the "apex", that's great. Since you didn't say the plan I need to assume you don't have one. Again, your dedication is noteworthy. However, your behavior is not.
