Well, I had this thread up a while back but I guess its gone ... :<_<:

Anyway, I know im not the only person who plays in here. I have a rainbow deck thats been holding up pretty good this past month. Its got 100 cards and I only lost a couple games because I got mana screwed. Here is what it looks like if your interested. Oh yeah, I just got 500 cards in the mail from e-bay so I may make a few changes. Feel free to talk about anything magic ... and no more Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon flaming please.

Ever considered that MTG isn't as healthy as it could be?
After all, you just posted a total index of your deck... And that's scary.

It was over in one attack.

I haven't played in in such a long time. I'm pretty sure he got rid of all the cards.

That's an odd way of gettin' kicks.. Talking your brother into attacking you at a card game... Most perplexin'...
But then again, there's a fetish for women that park their cars wrong as well.

Yeah, I try to keep my decks arround 70 at the most. I have 100 in my rainbow because 40 cards of it are mana. I tried to put all my favorite cards into one deck. I have a sunburst deck too. Fifth Dawn I think. Mostly artifacts though, not really my taste but it works.

On top of that he has all the Circle of Protections except for the protection from land. He also uses equip artifacts that make his creatures unblockable and cannot be the target of spells of abilities. And after all that he has enchantments that give him the option of paying a certian amount of mana or removing cards from your graveyard to make your creatures helpless to attack him ....

but every deck has a weekness

Sounds like my Black/White would totally hose him. Pestilence ignores that Ivory Mask, And Transcendence and Forsaken Wastes would make Pestilence more dangerous (and if he gets both Transcendence and Forsaken Wastes out I'd just disenchant Transcendence). And he'd be hard pressed to stop all the damage from my pestilence with COP:Black... (Deals a bunch of 1 damage effects instead of one big effect)

Yeah, the only way arround his defences is to destroy, remove, or counter his enchantments and artifacts. He uses soldiers that get more powerful with the more soldiers and equiped artifacts that are in play. In four turns he had two soldiers out and one of them was a 9/16 that could not be blocked and couldnt be the target of spells or abilities.

Hmmm ... you would probably need more than one Pestilence just in case it is disenchanted. What if he has two COP: Black's and Transcendence in play and his unblockable soldier ... I guess it would come down to who draws the cards they need first.

I like to use Repite and Moments Peace for defence and shadow to get arround his soldiers but im helpless against his COP's untill I can draw a Disenchant or Naturalize. I also have two Reverent Silence (destroy all enchantments) but I have to stay alive long enouph for him to get his enchantments out!

Manhattan_Project_2000
10-08-2004, 08:33 AM
I actually had 3 Pestilences in that deck. :D

And like I said, Pestilence makes COP: Black next to useless. He has to prevent damage on a one mana to one mana bases. And Transcendence would make the damage essentially double.

I know some people who would argue with me but in my opinion Magic: The Gathering is way more in debth than Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, ext. There is no one almighty card in Magic because for every one card there is another that contradicts it. This makes the game much more interesting and enjoyable.

red storm

Even though I am more of a yu-gi-oh player then a magic player, I have to agree with that. yu-gi-oh houses to many uber-cards, any champion deck includes a mirror force, raigeki, jinzo, torential tribute etc. A deck with these cards is imposible to defeat for anyone who can't get the cards via internet.

Alyssa
10-27-2004, 12:22 PM
I dunno, but to tell you the truth to shock ya peeps, I had a little magic deck going on for me too ^_^

My very first cards were from the 4th edition, but we had no mana, so we didn't know how to play. It was only like nearly 4 years ago I saw people play magic within the library, so I decided - heck, lemme try it out too - now I got an outstanding deck from the newest series - the expansion pack mostly

I hated the new Sunburst cards though - multi-colored decks normally get creamed by me in a sec. I use to have White, Green, and Blue all together

kept using Morningtide and Traumatize to make people angry lol, but it happens rarely...

Then I switched mine to Black instead of Green, used Balthor, sacrificed him when I casted Traumatize to myself, and brought one heck of a Zombie army with supportive magic like you won't believe.

But ahh, I still kept losing to my friends <they were guys by the way, no girls, so phooey - lol, was the only one> so I trimmed it down to two colors now, White and Black.

I didn't really like the part where they had an expansion all based on artifacts. But they did have some creative ideas. I find indestructible cheap, now that disenchants can't destroy target artifacts, etc. etc. Spells kept deflecting off em, and you can't use Wrath of God, so the only way to beat em was to either remove them from the game or have a strong enough monster to block them once in a while. Ahh, I could go on, if someone would post after this for me lol

Yeah the only cards I have that are from the older series other than the 6th edition were my Swords of Plowshares cards, they always do me wonders. I had one enchantment that always kept sacrifising creatures to disenchant those pesky little critters, and Reborn Hero use to be my fav. Now I have two Desolation Angels in my deck, but I'm too afraid to use em lol, they might destroy the entire field filled with lands. Which is a good thing, since most 1 mana-cost creatures or spells can't kill or block a flying angel. Gives me great victory on the field at times, lol. Plus I save some lands in my hand too to recover from the Kicker cost, it rocks! Most of the opponents just hardly have the time to recover...

Meh, who cares. In the game forum it has less change of getting shoved down anyway.

Oh yeah, I recently kicked someone's 'token deck' (at least that's what I call them). He had 100something 1/1 tokens on the field, and I used rain of swords. (deals 1 damage to every monster on the field) BAM gone were the tokens.

From there, it was easy to kick his monster (he used his tokens as a shield you see) and whipe him out.

Nice. Extiction would of worked also.
It must have been a good game if it lasted more than 17 turns.
Thats why I love this game. You think you own your opponent but the whole time your opponent owns you. :p Its a mind game.

Alyssa
11-17-2004, 01:07 PM
Rain of Swords is not my favorite, I never admired its 1 damage too often - Use cards more like Wildburst or Wildfire - they have potential damage.

Also, if you have a card with good recall play value and it is a white deck, I suggest using perhaps Chastise, sacrifice an enchantment to bring back an instant using one of those nifty "switch cards," then play Auromancer to bring the enchantment back into your hand. Use Dawn of the Sigil's enchantment and pair it with Auromancer, and you got one of the most deadliest combos in all nations.

A good second basic card to use is primarily Second Thoughts - that card can eliminate a really strong creature from the game and remove him permanently from play - plus you get to draw a card. It works wonders now - no thanks to Indestructible attributes. - lol

----------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of which - DO NOT SPAM this thread - I love magic the gathering so much and if you dare do something like this and ruin my love for the game, you are hurting the chances of another thread like this going through and I will MAKE IT PERSONAL HERE to report you AND lower your reps. Don't make things worse. I'm serious.

Yup, the only thing he was doing was building his token army to crush me with one mayor attack (95 1/1 tokens slamming into you at once aint funny) and keeping my monsters down to a minimum, I countered most of his blows that would have smashed trough my defense and we went on like that. It was a really fun game, you should have seen the look on his face when I destroyed his token army with a single card. So funny!

**Pulls out her deck**

Gosh, that's it, now is the time to tell you what cards I have here...

Hm... Ashen Powder - Put target creature card from one of your opponent's graveyards into play under your control.

This would fit perfectly with a discard card functionality. I forget which. But it's great for summoning an 8/8 creature under one turn if in fact you do get lucky.

Whenever multiple characters begin striking you, use Wing Of Shards Storm ability when he summons multiple one-mana creatures. By doing so as an instant, that player must sacrifice 1 attacking creature plus 1 more for each additional spell he or she has played during that turn. Add this with a multiple spell that dupes it for 2 mana <look at the artifacts to know how ^_~>, or with enough white mana - you can cast yet another Wing of Shards that storms even more lethal than the last combination. Talk about wiping out a battalion of like 8 attacking creatures around 4 to 5 mana - and the effects are sweet - sacrifice! That's another sweet card that Circle of Protections can't defend because it is directed against the player and he sacrifices beat indestructible creatures as well - which is just plain sweet!

lol - Maybe that's because your cranial capacity ain't good enough for their books. :<_<:

Simple tasks to know:

Trample - Excessive damage beyond creature's toughness is dealt to creature's owner as though it weren't blocked.

Haste - Prevent summoning sickness. You can tap or attack the same turn it comes into play.

Flying - Non-flying creatures are not able to block these types of creatures. However, flying creatures may block both flying and non-flying creature types as long as they remain untapped.

First strike - Creature gains opportunity for first strike. That is, if you face a creature with a toughness you can beat in one strike, you can deal damage to them before even getting a scratch of your own. No trade-off damage is received here, and you immediately send the creature to the graveyard, unless the player pumps up its toughness, then you will receive trade-off damage as normal.

Fear - Non-artifact or black creatures can only block these type of creatures.

Got it? lol

Alyssa
11-19-2004, 03:25 PM
That's what my deck was specifically designed for - sacrificing creatures constantly to wipe out many artifacts from people's decks. Use something like Sigil of the Dawn and Auromancer and you've got quite a combo! ^_~

Teferi's Enchantments are super-cheap too - by sacrificing enchantment for enchantment and by passing artifact cards back into your hand **with special cards** - plus I got creatures where you remove fading counters to destroy artifacts and remove them from the game. But enough said, artifacts are good, but not good enough in my books. Disenchant - lol

Nightmare is a good card nonetheless, but he can be beatable if you have a white deck. Mine is a combination of White and Black, and I can use Second Thoughts, a constant common card, to remove him from the game. I also have done that with Darksteel Colossus, and that's nothing.

Swords to Plowshares are good for instant removals - and the nice thing is that it "Removes target creature from the game" here with only 1 mana. Though it gains the opposing player more life, its much worth it in the long run. Plus removing indestructible artifacts is legal - and it counts too. ^^ Unless they have a blue deck that counters spells, no one can match more removal skills here, haha. And they are all from booster packs too if you were wondering, oldest ones come from 7th edition here.

Alyssa
12-03-2004, 09:13 PM
lol - my deck is pretty rigged, and its more planned out for facing strong creatures while at the same time using as little mana as possible to remove certain artifact creatures from an opponent's deck. I call it my "Artifact killing machine."

Only thing that's the problem is that I need more draw cards, I normally run out of cards after around 10 turns, and I lack a lot of flying creatures. That's why I always rely on Legends and Avatars while using Breath of Life and recycling card like Dawn of the Sigil to back me up.

For green, maybe you can add Genesis. He's an awesome creature and he keeps reraising peeps from the dead for 2 and a forest during your upkeep. But there are really good creatures out there for green. They cost a whole lot of mana - so I'm glad you can pump mana up really fast. I'm presuming you have Food Chain, an amazing enchantment in my books. ^^

barely though...

Alyssa
12-03-2004, 09:32 PM
Hm... did he play that card right after you summoned the creatures though? There was this card called Decree of Savagery which played and added 4 +1/+1 tokens on all creatures you would control for only 7 and 2 Forests. Not sure if you had enough mana to play this card as well, however. And to draw such a card was a complete rarity too.

And yeah - that card Decree of Pain does it everytime. What's worse is Plague Wind - if he had that card and played it right away - ouch O_o - All you can hope for is to gain enough life through casting certain life-gaining spells - or else you'd be beaten. Unless you have indestrucible artifacts of course, they'd dodge instant-kill moves.

And degree of pain can be dodged if you have high-powered creatures. Of course you already know that - lol ^^

Alyssa
12-03-2004, 09:58 PM
Canadian here - yeah.

And Krosan Drovers are nice if you want to bring the cost of your creatures down a lot more actually.

That's the problem with pumped up creatures though - I finally got Visara the Dreadful and Avatar of Woe, and I discard creature cards like mad and bring them back to play instantly using Breathe of Life and such. While keeping many creature cards in my graveyard, I can summon these creatures pretty easily using only 2 mana, but it does take a while - a couple turns - no doubt. That's when I use boots of haste to get rid of the summoning sickness - that way when I summon my creature, I can equip it on and start using the death effect right away. Very handy, as you might think. Haha.

And for multiple creeps, why not use Wrathe of God? **Grins** That's my white and black death strategy. ^^

Omg, NOOB, 100 card decks would be torn apart if you play pros, and using all 5 colours just doesn't work, anyone who has experience in cardgames know that this is all basic knowlege, idealy you want 2 colours max in a deck.

You don't just throw card in you like, you need it so every card you have can be played and can help you. you need a 40 card deck, always the minimun amount of cards your allowed.

HEY, Thanatos, nice Bloodthirster sig, so you play 40k then?

You are quite right about that. Acutually, to tell you the truth I dont use my rainbow deck when playing standard tournoment rules. There is another way to play magic. Your maximum hand size is 10 cards and you draw up to 10 cards each turn. You lay all your mana down thats in your hand each turn. Its much faster and most people dont enjoy it because there unbeatable tournament decks are useless.

The fact is, the smaller your deck is the better because you draw cards you need more often. Speed decks are most common (Green Elves, Red Goblins, Black Zombies ... ) but the new "affinity for artifacts" rule makes a fast Elf deck look like slow motion. Most people I know and play hate affinity.

zombies rule everything!

Nice combo ... enchantments are only good as long as they are in play though. A few counters and disenchants will make your enchantments useless. Zombies are very deadly though if you know how to use them.

My fav is the Green, i like it's effect the msot, you can amass a huge little army of tokkens at no cost, a 3/3 each turn!! Red also has a great ability, infact they all do just the mana cost is a bit much!

DeathBlade/13.666

that's usually how it goes, the better the card the harder to bring it out into play Ture, but it's getting your moneys worth really, or should i say mana's worth for the card. Dawn Bringers are good cards it's just you really should focus on them, well all depends on your style of play and strategy. But if the effect is worth the cost then by all means..

Kamigawa also has some nice creaturs like the 5 Myojins and the 5 Dragons. I think though Platinum Angel has an advatage over all these because for one thing its cheaper, collorles, and with the cloak it cant be the target of spells or abillities. Also, with Spectral Guardian the cloak cant be a target either. See what I mean ....

Have the Darksteel Forge as a backup. Now, since you cant die no matter how low your life gets and your opponent isnt anywhere near dead ... use this .......

Hey i have a question...say you have a 'furnace of rath' out and a Tok Tok, Volcano Born will the damage to a player be doubled due to the furnace and then would you add the 1 from the Tok Tok or would the abilities be stacked the other way?

Hey i have a question...say you have a 'furnace of rath' out and a Tok Tok, Volcano Born will the damage to a player be doubled due to the furnace and then would you add the 1 from the Tok Tok or would the abilities be stacked the other way? You just add 1 to it like you said but it's good to get another persons opinion also just in case!

Dragon Ninja - that is a good combo but then there's the issue of actually getting all the cards you need and getting them on the field, so that would be pretty hard to accomplish!

ok one question, what's this rainbow stuff i keep hearing about?

dragoninja
02-22-2005, 03:00 AM
Well "rainbow" is just what I like to call my deck that has all five colors. The official term would be "prismatic." A deck with at least 250 cards, no less than 20 cards of each color.

Hey i have a question...say you have a 'furnace of rath' out and a Tok Tok, Volcano Born will the damage to a player be doubled due to the furnace and then would you add the 1 from the Tok Tok or would the abilities be stacked the other way?

To me it sounds like double then plus one. If any source does any kind of damage to any player or creature, the damge would be double from the furnace ... then plus one more damage from the tok tok if the damage was delt to any player from a red source. The extra one damage to a player from the tok tok would not be doubled.

DeathBlade/13.666

250? that's too many cards... if you could manage to get the right mana a sunburst deck would work well... wait would that be counted as a 5-color deck or an artifact deck?

dragoninja

250? that's too many cards... if you could manage to get the right mana a sunburst deck would work well... wait would that be counted as a 5-color deck or an artifact deck?
A sunburst is an effect or ability that an atifact or artifact creature has. The artifact creatures use +1/+1 counters and the artifacts use charge counters. Example ...

http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/fd/suncrusher.jpg (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=FifthDawn&name=suncrusher#)http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/fd/clearwater_goblet.jpg (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=FifthDawn&name=clearwater_goblet#)

Cards that work well with sunburst ...

http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/mirrodin/glimmervoid.jpg (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=Mirrodin&name=glimmervoid#)http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/fd/joiner_adept.jpg (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=FifthDawn&name=joiner_adept#)http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/fd/channel_the_suns.jpg (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=FifthDawn&name=channel_the_suns#)http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/fd/fist_of_suns.jpg (http://gatherer.wizards.com/gathererlookup.asp?set=FifthDawn&name=fist_of_suns#)

Artifacts that use all 5 colors can not be considered a prismatic deck because you would need at least 20 cards with a mana cost of each color and artifacts are colorless. Thats why they call it sunburst and not prismatic. :)

They are pretty useful in the right situation, although they can't be searched and if they are removed or returned to the hand they go back to being a normal, everyday creature.

Initate of Blood/Goka the Unjust is a pretty good one, although some almost a thousand tims better. Alas, with better effects, higher requirements to flip the card. While some cards.. Student of Elements/Tobiita,Master of Winds are pretty simple to aquire..

What's not good about "Creatures you controll have flying" Well, if you think about all the bloody-anti-air cards...

The Colossus of Sardia is a very rare card and is from the Antiquities expansion but you can also find it in the 4th and 5th edition sets. The exact value I dont know but I went on ebay and you can get a used Colossus for about $1. I would say a mint Colossus from Antiquities would go for about $10 at most.

Actually, green and black controle decks are more common than you think.

I just built a red/blue deck with no creatures. Its nothing but burn spells and counters. Also has a few artifacts that let me gain life whenever red and blue spells are played. If my opponent plays a big creature I just send it back to they're hand or I counter it.

I already traded most of mine. They are very popular.

Tribal decks (decks with all the same type of creature) are ok but be sure to have some protection as well. If your running slivers I would suggest having a couple of Ward Slivers just in case. Watch out for cards like Extiction.

My entire (Magic) life is based off of Black/Green or.. "The Moss Covered Swamp" deck that I manged to create.

All I can say is that, this week I have been pretty lucky with my booster packs. I managed to get the following;
Yukora ,the Prisoner: Pretty good stats 2BB 5/5 YET He does'nt work well with any other card, except Ogres.. Unless you toss him in a Red-Black Orgre/Spirit deck.

Clash of Realities All spirits have "When this creature comes into play, you may have it deal 3 damage to non-spirit creature."
All non-spirit creatures have" When this creature comes into play, you mave have it deal 3 damage to target spirit."Pretty good for mix and match decks, since dealing three to spirits and non-spirit creatures whenever one is put into play is pretty much a game killer.
Patron of the Orochi, can we say green assault force? Pretty damn usefull in an all green deck, the other patrons... Eh... I think I'll pass untill I get a Patron of the Kitsune.

Opal Eye, Konda's Yojimbo.1/4 1WW. Legendary Creature Fox Samurai, Defender. The only thing good about it is.. It's tap effect.
" The next time a source of your choice would deal damage this turn that damage is dealt to Opal-Eye,Konda's Yojimbo insted."
The least they could have done is add an defense increase effect.

A better card. >D
Traproot Kami.
Creature -Spirt, Defender. Traproot Kami's toughness is equal to the number of forests in play. Keyword.. Number of Forests in play.. does'nt just mean yours. =D Kami may block as though it had flying.

Those are all really good, but i like the older 2-color legendary dragons like Darigaaz the Igniter, Rith the Awakener etc.

Ok, thanks to my friend Dimitri I'm into magic again. Thing is, I discovered my the joys of a red deck, but I need a good color to ad with it. Playing just red will make me weak against protection cards >_<

Anyone know of a good color to combine with red?

well black has some great cards for screwing your opponents, green has some good life and mana gaining cards, white and blue both have nice proection cards, but blue has interrupts and counters, and red has awsome burn spells

The most common combinations are either red-black or red-green, yet i think lots of artifacts should help.....

As Isunamaru said, black would be your best bet, as Red have so many cards with haste and black has regenerate, this would make it into an agressive deck, you need to be able to strike fast and to be able to keep mosters on the field to keep stiking them. Basically overwhelm them!

Went to my local gamestore and asked the manager to help. Together, we build a red deck (he's such a nice guy) that has surprisingly, not a flood of monsters.

The deck basically uses a lot of cards that can deal direct damage. The key to that being splicing.

Example: I have 5 mountains, I tap one to play Lava Spike (deals 3 damage to target player). To that, I splice Glacial Ray wich costs me 2 mana, and increases damage by 2. Next, I splice another Glacial Ray on that card, wich means 7 direct points of damage for 5 mana, and I don't have to dicard the Glacial Ray's ^_^

There are lots of other nasty tricks in this deck, including a shrine that deals 1 damage during my upkeep for each shrine I control (I have three) and monsters that deal damage when tapped. Most can be used to deal damage to monsters, too.

Splicing is very effective if you know how to use it. You are using it mainly for damage, which is always good, but you need some kind of defence also.

Since your using direct damage I would suggest not adding more creatures for defence but rather blue counter spells.

Here are some cards that are in my red/blue deck ...

Well, the main focus of this deck is to kick the crap out of your opponent before he has a chance to recover, so for defence, I mainly use instants that deal lots of damage versus monsters. But you do have a good point, I'll be on the lookout for a few nice spellcounters, since I fear those are going to be my nemesis.

hey, is there any way to prevent getting screwed on your mana, without having to overload the deck with mana? because if i overload it with mana, i won't be able to get anything out because i'll keep pulling up mana

Ah, yes, mana. The fatal flaw in magic. You don't draw enough mana, you lose. The only color that does not have that flaw is green, because they have lots of cards that allow you to search for land cards. Otherwis, just sort out your deck after each game so that your land cards won't be on one pile.
