Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will release on October 3rd, it was announced during today's E3 Nintendo Direct. Super Smash Bros. Wii U is still uncertain other than Winter 2014.

In addition to the release date, it was also confirmed that the Mii Fighters will making an appearance into the next installment of Super Smash Bros. and NFP figure compatibility for the game.

Mii Fighters will come as three types: Mii Brawlers will fight mano-amano and in close combat, and they very fast and strong. There's also Mii SwordFighters, who will wield a sword and attack with style. Lastly, there's Mii Gunners who will use projectiles as their attack, and better from a long-range standpoint. There's a variety of customization with each Mi Fighter type. The player can choose four special moves from 12 options, meaning there are 36 possible combinations to make.

NFP figures are now called “Amiibo.” When you touch an Amiibo to the GamePad, the character’s data is downloaded into the game that you’re playing. And that data can be sent back to the figures.

Amiibo will be featured in a lot of other Nintendo games, including the fantasy kart game, Mario Kart 8.
