I hear that there are 300 million guns in circulation in the US. So I'm curious, do any of you AF members have any guns?

There was actually a thread on this a while back. There were a dozen or so AF members that said they had guns, myself included.

Responsible gun ownership is still very common in America and while the numbers have been dropping as the population of the country shifts further from nature and deeper into the concrete jungle you still have a gun in a something like a third of households.

Is there something you wanted to know?

Firearm sales and ownership have been increasing consistently over the past three decades.

I do not own a weapon. I do however carry one with me, literally everywhere I go at the moment. The Army issued us an M16A4 before deploying, and unless we are at the gym or in our rooms, that thing is with in arms reach at all times. I also have combat load (7, 30round Magazines.)

In the newspaper, it said the gun laws may change sometime soon so thousands of people are collecting guns that could be banned from American gun shops. The firearms sales in America is booming. If the president bans assault weapons from gun shops, they will be worth a lot more on the streets than they are worth right now.

By the way, My stepfather owns several guns. Yes, I have practiced shooting with him.

Yeah, after it became obvious that there was going to be a major legislative push and that Obama was actively investigating trying to circumvent the law using executive orders I got that "now or never" feeling and looked into getting a firearm I had been interested in that might get banned.

Of course there is the possibility they might make owning such a thing illegal, but there is this pesky thing called the constitution that makes doing so somewhat difficult, so it's more likely they'd mess with being able to manufacture certain things as opposed to banning their possession. During the last ban you could even sell pre-ban stuff to other people.

However it seems lots of other people had already gotten the same idea. The gun stores are sold out of everything that looks vaguely like a scary assaulty gun, the manufacturers have so many orders in that some aren't even taking money anymore and others are willing to take your order but say you'll be waiting at least six months, and I've heard the gun shows are completely insane despite everyone jacking up their prices.

It isn't thousands of people buying these things up, based on the number of weapons in the manufacturers backlogs it has to be millions if not tens of millions of people making "now or never" buys. Well, or they just wanted one and would have bought one anyway and now have to wait a few more months because of all this.

I own a gun somewhere, but it's just for show. As far as I know, it's still broken and I don't have any ammunition for it. I mostly use it for filming and as reference for art pieces. My brother owns several guns though, and has been gathering them for years. I've been considering having him give me one that I can actually use, but thats a decision for a later time.

These laws they want are stupid. Despite what the media claims, violent crimes have actually gone down by 50% since 1992. The troubled areas are poverty areas with a population greater then 250k. And riffles only account for 3% of those crimes. So guns aren't the problem. It's poverty. We need better schools and programs in those areas and you will see the issues go down. The UK actually has a higher violent crime rate then the US. Banning guns doesn't fix the problem.

Just.. No. We don't need to live in a police state. The 2nd Amendment is there for a reason. Everyone thinks we live in some kind of fairy tale world where evil acts (and people) don't exist. The government is totally on our side. They know what's best! Take our guns away, please, and while you're at it, why not take all our freedoms with you!

Sounds a little familiar.. Isn't that what happened to Austria when the Nazis took over(pre-WWII)?
