History

It has been said that music is an incredible force, allowing creativity to be released into the world in such a pleasing and powerful way that it crosses all cultural boundaries and binds together those who can appreciate it's beauty. From the haunting melody of a Ballad to the visceral beat of Dubstep and even the free form adventure that is Jazz, humans can be defined and understood by the music they listen to. Music can enthrall us in its majesty, pick us up from depression with light hearted tunes, put us into a zone of thought that allows us to accomplish tasks with ease and even help us fall in love. Little do many people know that music, can also be a weapon.

Our bodies develop in the womb thanks to the genes passed down to us by our parents. Our genes are parts of pairs of chromosomes that determine how we look and how our body develops. One baby in 10,000 will have a slightly altered Chromosome 18 which in most cases causes disorders such as cataracts or neuropathy. However, in this case, the mutation slightly alters the construction of the ear drum and how it translates sound to the brain. In these babies the way the brain analyzes music is drastically different. Whereas normal people can have their feelings affected by what they're hearing. In these select few people, upon reaching puberty where the brain begins to really develop significant changes, whenever they listen to music they find themselves with enhanced abilities and reactions depending upon the particular sound waves, quality and distance of the source.

The first recorded sighting of a Staccato user was back in 1997 however it was systematically labeled as a hoax and went the way of Chupacabra sightings, UFO abductions and Bigfoot film. Those users who were born with their abilities hid them and tried to go about their lives. It wasn't until the year 2006, of an alternate timeline than our own, that these select individuals have been recognized as legitimated mutations of the human race and dubbed Staccatos. Each person is affected by different styles of music both positively and even negatively in some ways. Staccatos were the story of the century two years ago but now most just want to be left alone especially since the creation of the terrorist Staccato group Fortissimo. Fortissimo sees the coming of the Staccatos as a sign of humanity's evolution and must therefore help it along by removing the dead weight, i.e. those who were not born with the mutation.

Our story begins in the spring of 2008, three years after the creation of Fortissimo, in a small unassuming cul-de-sac where mostly everyone knows everyone, however there are some new arrivals that bring their own sense of mystery to the tight knit community. No sooner do the new residents set up their homes than the sounds of gunfire and screams of aggression ring out through the air. As the many families are dragged out by the invaders one man stands in the center of all of the commotion. He has an air about him that draws eyes towards him even when he's standing still, which is odd considering he has such a "normal" appearance. This man is Levi Ketterling, the leader of Fortissimo and the catalyst of change. Whether that change is for good or bad is up to you.

You have a choice, just like everyone else in the world. How will you live your life? Your loved ones and neighbors are being held at gunpoint by Ketterling and his Fortissimo members. Levi will pose a question in the first post, how you answer will determine what happens to whatever loved one or neighbor you decide to incorporate within your story. For your first post include the day you first move into the cul-de-sac and introduce your important loved one/parent/friend. Every user will receive a different result depending upon how they answer and from there you must make your own choices. Will you escape the cul-de-sac and live on the run? Will you establish a resistance against Ketterling and Fortissimo? Or perhaps you'll agree with Fortissimo's viewpoint and join their cause. Make your choice. Develop your own Staccato abilities and help shape the face of this new future.

However not all weaknesses need be physical. You aren't a god, your abilities come with an inherent weakness, however you can later in the story create ways to overcome these weaknesses but they will never be fully gone):

Sample Character

Character Name: Levi Ketterling

Age: 18

Description: Standing at just under six feet with subdued green eyes and stringy black hair that always looks in need of a wash Levi Ketterling would be a very unappealing young man were he not a Staccato. http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRqCb6h8mYzGc9YZIzgXI46LxgYMhx8Y fzNIy3Gnj47iPYX56JDfKDI6wE9yg

Background: Levi discovered the nature of his Staccato abilities upon entering high school five years ago. Growing up as an abused foster child Levi escaped into the internet and techno to distance himself from the physical and emotional pain he suffered at the hands of his foster siblings. School also proved challenging since there wasn't much of a tech clique at his school and as a result Levi was targeted being the "loner kid". One morning as he was idly listening to a song in the library, leaning back on the chairs back legs, he began to feel different as the song continued and discovered only as it was finishing that he was unconsiously balancing on only one chair leg. Of course upon the song ending his balance wavered and he pitched back onto the floor. After experimenting with his discovery, Levi felt powerful, in control, better than he had in his whole life. He began listening to music as long as he was awake, editing tracks together so he only had one long audio file to allow his Staccato ability to continue relatively uninterrupted. As you can imagine, given this incredible gift while your brain is developing social and logical skills can warp an individual who doesn't have the proper guidance. He resented sleeping as well but forced himself to or he would become too tired to enjoy his birth given talents. As more and more people learned of those born with Staccato abilities a prejudice began to develop. Those without the ability would look fearfully at those with it. Others would become angry at the possibility of destroyed property or person and would do their best to drive off the altered human. Imagine having to deal with such prejudicial treatment every day with the intensity of emotions that are cultivated by teenagers. Naturally Levi could only take so much. One day Levi crippled a student who had bullied him for much of his school life and had attempted to take his mp3 player, essentially, the source of his Staccato power. As the bully lay gasping in pain on the floor Levi felt a sense of power and superiority before he ran out of the school, never to return. Levi spent much of his life afterwards perfecting the use of his Staccato ability and creating a group, Fortissimo, of those who felt much like he did. Ketterling believed those with Staccato abilities were better and deserved to be treated as such. To gain this better treatment the world needed to see their powers and in seeing them be awed and humbled. Those who fear soon turn to worship and appeasement and Levi had always wanted to see what it was like to be God.

Staccato Ability: Crush Beat. The steady back beat of Techno gives Ketterling increased balance and hand-eye co-ordination while the repetitive instrumentals allow him to observe everything in "tracks". A gun being brought up to a certain level, the direction in which an eye looks or the angle of the thrust of a knife are all analyzed and quickly replayed in Levi's mind allowing him to dodge, intercept or stop the action. He can see an action and see it broken down part by part but the amount of said parts are related to the duration of the repetitive sections of the song. Faster Techno pieces allow less analyzation and prediction but increases reaction time. Whereas slower Techno allows more analyzation and allows for better predictions but ties up the thought chain process and reaction time suffers. Both House and EDM are complimentary to Ketterling's Staccato allowing a slight diminishing of his weakness. Jazz is the foil to Ketterling's Staccato, seriously hampering his enhanced senses.

Enhancements: Improved balance. Fast reaction time (fast techno). Better analyzation and prediction (slower techno).

Weaknesses: Arrogance. Slower predicting (fast techno). Slower reactions (slower techno).

Battle System

Finally I'd like to make a note on how battle will play out within the RP. Most fights/events will be instigated by myself and they will either be focused on one player or a group (if one develops). Here's how this will work. Whenever you need to use your Staccato you must first decide what song your character is listening too. Notice how long the song is, where the music may swell or become more intense/melancholy and plan your attack/strategy/mission accordingly. When posting you may insert time markers in brackets "{}" so that myself and those reading can follow along with the flow of battle or your actions. Playlists may be made but may only feature up to five songs since any battle or event would tire you and your opponent out (unless with a Staccato or mechanical exception). Time will pass as the RP continues until catching up to the current year of 2012 so only songs published in said year can be played by your character. As an example, the day Ketterling was in the library back in 2005 he was listening to a song called "Local Area Control" by the group Wake on Lan. (http://tinyurl.com/d2ffc6u). Songs before 2008 may also be used, as can any songs during the later years segments. This RP assumes song and artists develop just as ours do in our own timeline. Any other questions may be directed at me and I will quickly address them so that our RP can go smoothly.

Character Name: Beck Sakurami

Age: 18

Description: http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-08/twewy-sho-minamimoto1.html
http://www.creativeuncut.com/gallery-08/twewy-sho-minamimoto2.html

Background: Beck was born in Newark New Jersey he lived a pretty carefree lifestyle. Friends, sports teams and recreational boxing. Beck had an affinity to music but always thought so did everyone else. Dubstep was his music of choice, he enjoyed the fast paced visceral beats and literal electrifying bass. On Beck's seventeenth birthday he was at a semi final boxing competition. The last round proved tough but he made it to the finals. Gloating in his victory Beck was strolling down the street shuffling and jamming to his music a few rival highschool athletes confronted him. "Tough stuff huh pretty boy?" Beck loved confrontation but never went out of his way to look for it, but when it was presented he thrived off the energy of battle. Still with his ear buds in the bass of dubstep was coursing through him. Taking on four opponents at once Beck was pleased with the odds. Ducking and weaving tiring them out Beck was making lite play of the four aggressors. Lunging in for the last blow Beck landed a punch to his opponents. The well built male started shaking and screaming in agony as his body tensed up the longer Beck left his fist there. Dropping to his knees and toppling over Beck noticed foam seeping from his enemies mouth and a charred fist mark where he had landed he blow. From that day forward Beck started practicing more and more with his Staccato ability. Gaining a strong grip on it he had a newly dubbed power, the Watt Beat. Two weeks after his confrontation with the rival highschool students Beck was confronted by the police on charges of attempted murder. Beck tried to explain what happened in the precinct~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hours later Beck was arrested and escorted to what looked like a high end facility that was teeming with men in black suits and white lab coats. He knew this wasn't a place that had his best interest in mind. With his hands cuffed and an iPod with two percent battery life Beck quickly scrambled his arms under and over his legs put his headphones on and delivered a few shocking blows to the driver and two men that apprehended him. Never looking back Beck made strives towards a new life.

Staccato Ability: Watt Beat- Beck's body takes to the fast beats of Dubstep and rock. Depending on what he's listening too affects the density, flare and voltage of his electricity. His heart beats accelerate with the tempo and rushes his blood cell count to new heights powering his kinetic energy and transferring it into an electric current Beck can exude outward through his punches/kicks.

Enhancements: Attributes his physical strength with electric properties.

Weaknesses: Beck's ability speeds up his heart beat in battle situations. Beck runs the risk of inducing a heart attack or stroke if he uses his Staccato for more than seven minutes. Also: when beck triggers his Watt Beat he can't control what beats and bass his heart synchronizes with. If Watt Beat is activated while a song with a slow tempo is on his heart may slow down to a debilitating state or stop completely.

I was sold joining this by the second paragraph. I have one question, though: Do we use the music as weapons, such as playing an instrument could harm others, or is it simply a powerful buff to us?

Galactic Pretty Boy Very nice character. Approved. Be sure your first post is about moving into the neighborhood and lets have a blast!

I A It's both in a way. The style of music you have an affinity to can enhance and create abilities as you listen. Also if you have the ability to play a certain style of music on an instrument it can hamper your opponent (or teammate) however music does not literally become a weapon (e.g. sword made of notes or a concussion wave like Midvalley the Hornfreak's Sax in Trigun). I look forward to your character sheet I A.

Character Name:
Stéphanie du Bérénice

Age:
42

Description:
http://sonohara.donmai.us/data/2131c9659b78b498c8be5ae6042d6010.jpg

Background:
Stephanie's grandparents moved into the small town long ago, escaping the cultural cleansing of her home-village that was taking place at the time. The leader feared Staccatos, and out of paranoia of being over-thrown, dictated that all men, women, and children who were thought to be Staccatos be executed. Since then, the Berenice family has enjoyed peace and quiet, and Sephanie's parents became the leaders of the local church, and as a result, Sephanie grew to be heavily religious. She loved the sound of the church organ ringing in her ears, echoing through the room like thunder over her home. Eventaully, Stephanie learned to even play the Organ herself. She loved Classical music in general, and she possessed many CDs of famous artists such as Bach, Choppan, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Stephanie didn't know why but when ever she heard Classical music, she felt somehow aware of things around her more, and Organ music made her feel quicker. Her hints on her abilities soon became more obvious as the people around her noticed her outstanding abilities to catch things that fell near her without flaw. Stephanie was a Staccato, and she was praised heavily among the people of the church. Stephanie herself felt that it was God's gift, and during her prayers one day, she asked God what she should do with her abilities. That night, she had a dream of leading a Cult of other Staccatos through battle, with a man named Levi. Stephanie was still unsure about the dream, but she did know one thing: whoever this Levi was, she was to aid however possible, no matter what. It was her duty as a priest, as one of God's tools. (I think this is a bit of a spoiler, but oh well.)

Staccato Ability:
The Great Fugue in G Minor - Fugues and Classical music in Minor keys give the following effects:

Bach: Equilibrium - Stephanie becomes more vulnerable to her weaknesses, but gains a large bonus in her agility
Choppan: Conductor - Stephanie's skill in persuasion is increased, at the cost of emotional sensitivity
Mozart: Flawless Authority - Stephanie's speed is increased, and gains enhanced multitasking, at the cost of strength
Beethoven: Distinguishing Ears - Stephanie can make out single voices from many much easier, at the cost of becoming colorblind
Pachelbel: Anthem - Stephanie can run faster, as well as jump higher, but becomes sensitive for the duration she runs
Canon in Death Major - Canons and Classical music in Major keys give the following effects:

Bach: Lord's Watchful Eye - Stephanie gains more focus on allies, and becomes more pessimistic
Choppan: Witchhunt - Stephanie has increased thinking
Mozart: God's Laugh - Stephanie lowers the overall moral of enemies Staccatos slightly
Beethoven: Astral Hearing - Stephanie can hear more at farther ranges
Pachelbel: Dicplacement - Stephanie's dodges are enhanced
Interlude - Stephanie is more adaptable than others when other music besides 'Blasphemy' is being heard.
Blasphemy - Stephanie is weak to the following genres of music:

Heavy Metal: Causes partial deafness
Jazz: Widespread pain throughout the body
Country: Judgement impairment

Enhancements:
When ever Stephanie hears Classical music, her speed, agility, ability to distinguish differences, and multi-task is enhanced.

Weaknesses:
All of The Great Fugue in G Minor abilities have a cost (see Staccato Abilities for specifics.) Furthermore, Stephanie tends to be overly fanatic, physically weak, stubborn, and over-confident.

Tell me if you think anything is too over-powered. I tried to balance it out as much as I could.

I A very interesting Staccato abilities I like that you took the weaknesses to a personality level as well as a physical one. My only question is about "Blasphemy". Is that just the name you're giving to the types of music she isn't attuned towards or is it an ability in itself that she can control? Clarify that little bit with me and you're approved.

12-02-2012, 10:34 PM
Anyone who is attuned towards those genres of music, she faces 1/4th of the weaknesses. Furthermore, if she hears them herself, she experiences the full effects of them. She cannot work with those types of music at all, and Staccatos who use those types of music are essentially "enemies" to her. Does that make more sense? If we get a case where there aren't any characters that use those, then I could add more.

Character Name: Alex Campell

Age: 21

Description: http://imgur.com/gallery/mrv04/new

Background: Alex grew up with a big city life style. He lived in an apartment with his parents for most of his life. He went to a big city high school where he was known for one thing, music. Alex's genre of choice was always rock any kind, ranging from 80's rock like Bon Jovi, to punk rock like Rise Against he loved it all. While in high school he learned how to play guitar and was in love with it. His parent's on the other-hand hated it, they thought of it as a waste of time and effort. They said they wouldn't support it, but wouldn't stop him from supporting himself. By his sophomore year of high school he saved up enough to buy his own guitar. He took it everywhere and would play on the street in his spare time, but not for money just for the sake of playing where others could hear. He learned he was a staccato around his 16th birthday when he and a few friends were playing a concert at their school and when he did a back-flip into the crowd he ended up on the other side of the small gym. The crown loved it believing he used wires, only he and his friends were curious about what happened. At home that night he tried to find out what did happen, unable to figure out what he slammed his desk, he happened to be listening to some Green Day, his desk broke in half. He turned off his music and confused tried to bring the strength back again and hit his wall, needless to say he ended up with a sprained wrist. Only then did he realize it was the music that let him do what he did. He decided to keep it a secret and was careful around others when listening to his music. After he graduated he decided to go into a band with a few friends. They played a few gigs over time, but eventually went into a record deal. They agreed that if they were going to be a serious band they needed to make sure they could handle being together for long periods of time, so they bought a house in a suburban neighborhood.

Staccato Ability: Hard Rocking: When listening to rock he gets significantly increased strength and speed, especially during guitar solos.

Enhancements: Makes Alex Stronger and Faster

Weaknesses: Using his ability for too long puts his body under extreme stress and can lead to broken bones and torn ligaments. Also if he hears classical music it leads him to be weaker and slower than before.

Character Name: Alastair Nerulli

Age: 17

Description: http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee136/suwarnaadi/hair/long-black-bedhead-hair.jpg

Background: Alastair moved into the Neighhbourhood only a few days prior to the events. He had previously lived with his Girlfriends family (On the sofa). His family had been closer to a time bomb than a home, with his parents often fighting each other, and he had no other friends to speak of, save for his local Nerd group at school. As the 'King of the Geeks', he was never paticularily popular. However, he found he was quite the Narrator, and as such, played alot of Dungeons and Dragons. This led to further unpopularity, then to outright hostility from his classmates. Alastair left school at 16, and started working, to earn enough money to pay for a new place to live. Alastair bean working as a stage assistant. One night, whilst a local metal band were playing, Alastair noticed a man threatening one of the bouncers. As he watched, the man pulled a Gun. Alastair lunged, though he didn't think he'd be able to stop the man. However, Alastair found himselfpushing the gun aside before the man even managed to finish pulling the trigger. After the incident settled down, Alastair was sat down and info red b the bouncer- another Staccato- that he had Staccato powers. This was quite the shock, but the Bouncer offered to help Alastair learn how to use them. After a couple of months, he and his Girlfriend moved into he cul-de-sac, where events began to unfurl.

Staccato Ability: The Night Eternal- Alastairs Staccato reacts to Metal, Mostly Symphonic Metal, orchestral metal and dark/gothic metal, htough other metal ives him power too. However, he reacts badly to Jazz and Blues.

Enhancements: Listening to Metal in any way allows Alastair to float upon an ethereal wind that only he can feel. Whilst upon the wind, he is faster, and he cannot be tripped or pushed over, only moved backwards. Symphonc metal gives him Telekenetic power- movein objects with his mind. the lounder the music is in his ears, the Larger the objects he can push. Orchestral metal gives him physical force attacks, Force pushes and Telekenetic blasts, which he throws from his hand. Gothic metal oes in another direction, and grants him power over shadows, wrapping them around himself, objects or even people, creating shadow-illusions, invisibility, or even using them as weapons. Nightcored metal has an interesting effect on him- rather than giving him telekenises or shadow powers, he becomes ethereal, much faster, and Incorpreal. However, he cannot physically interact with anything in this state.

Weaknesses: Alastair has a very sweet tooth, and is always sucking on softmints. (Trebor are his favourites). He is a total sucker for them. Also, whilst There is Jazz or Blues music playing, Alastair becomes sluggish and weak. After too long, His Powers cause headaches, temporary loss of senses and drowsiness- using his powers is still new to.him, and its draining.

Esiphas Two little issues I have are that 1. Nightcore isn't really a "genre" of music in the sense of the usual categories (pop, rock, country, metal, etc.). It's really just other songs with the speed increased and beats implemented so it's more like Trance or EDM. As a result you could essentially cheat by using the same songs that are in a different genre and say "Oh but since they aren't Nightcore songs I don't get as much of a bonus." Also you say that the three types of metal give Allastair Telekinetic abilities, what abilities does he gain and to what extent? Can he use pyrokinesis? Astral Projection? Telekinesis itself? Just add a little more specific info for the TK aspect of his Staccato and switch up the Nightcore element.

Character Name: Maria

Age: 18

Description: http://cyphergate.net/wiki/images/4/4f/DMP3_25_cosmicfantastic_1.jpg

Background: As a young girl, Maria used to be a loner and a quiet girl. No friends, no interests, etc. It wasn't until she started to sing where she experienced something that was mind blowing. When she sang, her voice was very beautiful and as a result made she has many friends, attracted many fans, made her an instant pop star in a matter of weeks, and she also discovered that she wasn't completely human. During her performances as she sang, she noticed that people in the crowd gave off different aura of colors. She came to believe that some of the people in the crowd were in different moods at the time before her performances. Shortly after her performances however, the crowds color would be pink, believing that they became more happy and calm. As Maria continued to perform, she made a commitment to herself to make her performances unforgettable and happy so that everyone can be the same way. Maria has recently moved into the cul-de-sac along with her childhood friends hoping that they can live out their lives normally as stars. But thing will change soon...

Staccato Ability: Pop Star's Vision - When Maria sings/listens to any pop song (any language works for her as well), Maria can see the colors of the people around her, allowing her the ability to tell the people's current mood. Pop music can make the colors more brighter giving her an easier time to identify the mood of people but if she is around sad songs, it will cause the colors to disorient and make it difficult for her to tell the moods.

Enhancements: Maria, with Pop Star's Vision is active, she can see (and react) to peoples' mood. She can also inform anyone, if she wants to, of what everyone's intention is.

Weaknesses: Maria is not a combat person (she's a pop star idol after all) and she really has no way to defend herself should someone target her. She does have good perception and hearing skills which will allow her to plan ahead though she needs to plan ahead of time. Maria's color also disorient if sad songs are heard, she does carry her iPod around to prevent this.

Plan to make another character or two but will need time to think about it...

Description: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS84cLyRcap9DQGT15GAFiJ7udp_cjSG aYkvAvEusW_bf4ZTOUIpQQozt6I

Background: marcie was simple 17 year old girl from a rathe wealthy family. from a very young age she was more less force to practice ballet by her mother, who believed it would help her become a true lady. Though marcie did not mind the ballet lessons she found the music stiff and boring. When her parents werend home she rather listend to symphonic heavey metal than to the swan lake and occasional danced her ballet on it which she found amusing since the two were rather contradicting. she found out she was a Staccato when she was 16 during a friends birthday party. Her friend had a broken foot and wanted marcie to show how she could dance ballet on a heavey metal song. so she did, somewhere halfway the dance she started to faintly glow though this seemed unseen by her friends. On the end off the song she was still glowing and bowed grabbing her friends hand. when she did that her friends foot started to glow as well. the next day she was told her friends foot was healed completly. After that in order to train herself she offter to dance in hospitals and retiremend homes for free. healing the sick and helping the elders. then her father made a heavey mistake and her family lost there fortune, now she moved into a new noughbourhood where she knows none,

Staccato Ability : by dancing ballet to heavey metal music she charges herself with a healing engery

Enhancements: she becomes slightly more agile making her able to avoid attacks faster

Weaknesses; if she heals to many people she wil become very weak fysicly. if she charged herself to long without releasing the power wil give her a heavey migraine

jazz and country wil stop the charging process completly
other music kinds wil just slow it down heavely

Esiphas Better much better. I said that would be the last thing but I just realized you have no inherent weakness built into you "Night Eternal" Stacatto ability. You have a type of music you react negatively to but your abilities, at this point, have no weakness to them (aside from the becoming incorporeal when you listen to Nightcore Metal).

Also just as a post to everyone you can head into the RP thread and start.

Character Name: Sarah

Age: 18

Description: https://yande.re/post/show/231227/kagamine_rin-vocaloid-yukizuki_kei_-yossa-

Background: A girl with a talent and a gift, Sarah is one of many things people call her. First, she is the sexiest guitarist on the planet. Second, she is one of the best guitarists on the planet. Third, She is one of the sexiest girls on the planet. Those three phrases can easily describe Sarah but her beginnings were rather humble. Sarah first picked up the guitar around when she was 8 years old when she curiously found an old acoustic guitar laying around her parents house. She always had a fascination for playing guitar after school and grew to the point where she would always bring her acoustic guitar. Around 12, her parents gave her an electric Gibson guitar known as the 'Flying V' and she would always go to middle school and high school. Sadly, it was hard making friends since she wasn't social enough to fit in with her classmates. However, when she first picked up the old acoustic guitar back when she was a kid, she noticed that there was another girl just like her, exactly the same looking girl. Except that it didn't try to harm her but rather, it actually wanted to help her instead. Sarah never had any real friends until her 'Doppelganger' was able to point out people like her with similar powers and easily found two of them, Maria and Vanessa. Ever since the three discovered that they were gifted, they talked to each other often and often performed together during talent shows and local concerts. Now the three girls have now moved into the cul-de-sac where the events of a musical legend will unfold...

Staccato Ability: Doppelganger - With the power of her 'Flying V' guitar and the various rock songs, Sarah can create a second version of herself to allow her to do two or more things at once. As long as any electric guitar and rock songs exists, the Doppelganger can last as long as she wants to. The stronger (and more aggressive the guitar play) the more powerful the Doppelganger (and herself) become. The Doppelganger can do various things from helping Sarah to fighting for and with her.

Enhancements: A second version of Sarah emerges to help Sarah with various tasks from fighting to doing various works for her. Furthermore, Sarah gains enhanced reflexes and strength.

Weaknesses: Sarah needs rock music or any music with the electric guitar in them to create the Doppelganger. Without them, she cannot create the Doppelganger. Also, if the presence of a guitar is weak, the weaker her Doppelganger and herself will be.

Character Name: Vanessa

Age: 18

Description: https://yande.re/post/show/232150/ia_-vocaloid-vocaloid-yukizuki_kei_-yossa-

Background: Vanessa's beginnings were an accident though her skills are not without doubts to this day. Vanessa was just an ordinary girl when at a young age when Vanessa began to mess with various music instruments and equipment when she wondered into various clubs and bars on accident. Of course, she never damaged the equipment but rather combined some of the sounds from the various equipment without know that she was actually remixing them. Many clubs and bars took interests in her talents and invited her to perform in various performances. Vanessa was blessed with various things around her age of 10. From being a DJ prodigy to being one of the sexiest girls and DJ on earth. During her various performances, Vanessa was born with the ability to remix any song to her desire. From classical music to modern rock music, Vanessa can make anything out of the various music at her disposal. She was also naturally born with natural yet fast reflexes and so remixing music made her enhanced her reflexes even further. She has remixed various music from her various people that she has befriended including Maria and Sarah and as a result began to perform with them often to mix in various sounds to make their performances lovely. Today, Vanessa and the other two girls have now moved into the cul-de-sac to begin their career as a trio but new events will get in their way and they will need to deal with it first.

Staccato Ability: Remix Reflexes - As Vanessa remixes the various music, her reflexes are enhanced allowing her to move faster and outpace anyone that tries to attack her. The sounds of the remixed music also give her the ability to blow people away with various attacks. Any music waves that come to her are archived into her mind so that she can remix them later. While the music and sounds she stores in her mind are saved, she then can use her mind to rearrange the music, beats, and lyrics to her liking to make it her own before she uses them as her own to create various remixed music.

Enhancements: Faster reflexes and enhanced strikes.

Weaknesses: Vanessa is unable to remix Jazz music and as a result her reflexes are diminished and her attack strength is normalized. Furthermore, if Vanessa even hears a single sound of Jazz, her reflexes will diminish to the point where she can't move and will be unable to fight back until she can remove it from her mind. Getting rid of Jazz music from her mind does take a few minutes to do and she will experience diminished strength and energy during the process.

Light Buster Interesting but quick question. Does Sarah's Staccato ability work with any guitar? Or just electric? If so then the music that affects her is too broad.

OK this took a while to get grounded. This RP has such a strange and interesting feel to it I can't help but give it a try. I hope this character is ok but any problems shout out and i'll ignore them...I mean fix them...*innocent smile*

Character Name:
Jace Kihara

Age:
38

Description:
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9744/kiharakun.jpg

Background:
Jace Kihara is the result of a series of unfortunate events that happened to possibly the right man in the wrong place. Jace development with Staccato abilities, and the drawbacks they had, came at a time they really shouldn't have.

He was young and working in the military when he first felt a change. A bright boy, he was quick to pick up on things and earned all the qualifications and respect he got. His job was a field military analyst. An information gatherer and observer, people discovered he was surprising impressionable, getting into habits other people he worked with often showed. This would turn against him as the enviroment he was in was far from suitable for that type of person. One of his first missions on the field had him and his squad pinned down for hours. Slowly snapping under pressure, he tried to calm himself down with childish rhymes as some kind of protective charm. It didn't seem to work. They were however rescued in the end, their support commenting on the weird behavour the enemy had displayed towards the end, and Jace was taken away from field missions for a brief time.

Brief however is not as long as it should be. Jace was plunged back into the thick of things, as such was his job. Each time he took to his rhyming mantra to keep safe. Each time he emerged a little bit more...different. It is strange that no one noticed how much the war was taking out of him. Slowly he began to realise things. But he kept this to himself, his more paranoid side growing. But in keeping with his job, his frame of mind, he began to explore the these new possibilities. In the end Jace left the military under classified circumstances at the age of 28 and then seeming vanished.

He reappeared in 2004, seemingly a scientist and researcher now. But anyone who knew him previously might not have recognised him. There was a more arrogant tone to him. It was layered with a sense of paranoia, cruelty and even madness. But for all this display he was very forward and bright in his attempts to contact certain individuals. There was no reasoning behind these people. It was as if he was just plucking names from out of no where. After gathering information and doing a few sound reaction tests he would move on. Never disappointed, but never quite pleased with any of the results. Then as sudden as he appeared, he vanished again.

In 2005 he appeared again. This time alongside many others, as a member of Fortissimo. His standing within the group as a researcher was clear, but his relationship with the much younger leader of the Fortissimo was not. At times he seems rank himself higher then him, other times a right hand man and there is even times he seems disconnected from the group as a whole. It is however very clear that he holds the same belief as the others. He has been witnessed mocking 'Normal' people and bulling weaker Staccato's. Within the group his is generally viewed as a creepy individual whom most don't like to spend time with. His tone and abilities scare away the weaker members and earn the respect of the stronger ones, regardless of their actual opinions.

Jace has appeared in the neighborhood at the right hand side of Levi. He looks to the those there with a scientist demeanour and a madman's gleam in his eyes.

Staccato Ability:
Jace's staccato abilities stem from short rhyming songs. As it is he chooses to use children's rhymes as a base. Why? No one wants to know. It is less the words and rhyme, and more the short, quick nature of the tune that he uses.
Jace has researched into his own abilities extensively and discovered a base by which he believes it works. His abilites have no affect on himself, each affecting only those who hear it. As such he has to produce the song himself. He believes that this is because his body reacts to the vibrations he creates and attaches the affects to them before sending them out. Therefore anyone who comes into contact with these sound waves is affected.

Because of this he has two way to use the rhymes he so far has created. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
One is to sing the tune. This is the basic form of his ability, and is average in all respects.
The second is to hum. Because of the vibrations created through humming, the affects are amplified, but so are the disadvantages.

Jace is always experimenting with what does what in an effort to expand the power available to him, using new rhymes to see what happens and recording the results. Because of this there will always be those unlucky few to be victim to his whims.

Enhancements:
The effect listed are when sung, they last only as long as the song. There must be a rest period between each song. The enhancements made by humming are noted after.

Rain Rain Go away:
Weakens positive abilites of those who hear it. Example, those sped up slow down slightly, enhanced strength weakens. The change is noticable to the user but not major, weakens by about 1/10th.
Hum: The amount lost increases. Others will be able to visibly tell that someone has been weakened. Weakens by about 1/5th.

Baa Baa Black Sheep:
Causes those he looks at with staccato powers to glow slightly, allowing him to identify them. Only he can see the glow.
Hum: In addition creates a trail to the person that lingers for a short time after the song is sung, allowing him to track them.

Humpty Dumpty:
Creates a sharp pain in the back of those who hear it. No physical damage is dealt.
Hum: Instead causes cuts to open on the victims back.

Itsy Bitsy Spider:
Reduces the accuracy of the listeners sight.
Hum: Instead blurs their vision and dampens their senses.

Ring around the Rosy:
Causes the person who hears it to suddenly twitch their leg. This can knock them off balance or cause them to stumble. The leg it effects is random.
Hum: They instead loose feeling in the leg for a brief moment, commonly results in them falling over.

Jack and Jill:
Creates a feeling of dread in the listeners to impair their thinking.
Hum: In addition, victims feel a growing fear towards the hummer (Jace).

Weaknesses:
There are a few overall weakness with Jace's staccato powers:
1. They only last a short amount of time.
2. If the same one is used in succession then its affects will begin to apply to Jace.
3. He must wait at least 5 -10 seconds before using a different rhyme to the one he just used.
4. Loud music of any type can interfere with the sound waves, causing the affects to be blocked. This music must be played outloud. Loud music in headphones does no block his power since the waves still reach the person.

With Humming comes it's an addtional problem. If the tune is hummed then it causes vibrations in Jace's head. The damage starts light and increases as he hums more. The more humming in a period of one day the greater the damage. After a day the damage inflicted returns to light. However during that day the damage inflicted is cumulative. So humming for bit in the morning enough to cause medium damage, will mean humming in the afternoon will cause large damage.
The damage is also painless so Jace has no idea how much damage he is inflicting until it is too late. This drawback is a factor in his growing insanity.
I will have a little note in the top of my posts to display the amount of damage so it can be tracked.

Light Buster Okay Sarah is approved but for Vanessa there needs to be a weakness about her Remix Reflexes Staccato ability. Everyone has a music that affects them negatively but they also have an inherent flaw to their abilities to keep them from being all powerful.

Valkarma APPROVED APPROVED APPROVED I don't even care that you sneakily inserted yourself into Fortissimo without approval from myself I love your character and ability.

Character Name: Ailka (Holic) Murchel

Age: 17

Description: 72291

5’7, dirty blonde hair, washed-out red eyes. Usually wearing her school uniform with a casual jacket, her hair in one or two plaits to keep it out of the way.

Background: Ailka grew up in the cul-de-sac from the age of 2 with her parents and two sisters. It was during hard times at secondary school that Ailka came to coax her Staccato abilities into use. Like many students she was bullied and alienated simply because she wasn’t popular enough, smart enough or loud enough to fall into any category worthy of attention. A usually quiet and withdrawn girl she’d spend most of her free time alone in the classroom with her MP3 loaded with soulful and emotional music; having an awful voice herself she would lip-sync and sway to her heart’s content.
After a particularly crushing day she was playing a track, the music splitting into layers of vocals, violins, guitar and mix board. Lip-syncing to the words her spirits were lifted… as was she. Dancing a step around the classroom, the music swelled to a high held note and she was suddenly launched into the air. Startled she threw her hands out to brace her fall and ended up splitting the teacher’s desk in two, cracking the floor tiles underneath. Seeing what she had done, she scrambled up and out of the classroom, making her way straight home. As weeks passed, she would find as many isolated places as possible to learn more about this talent, soon discovering that when the right kind of music grabbed her, her usual submissive and docile behaviour was swarmed with raw and wild emotions; exhilarating joy, foul anger and an exhausting hype of energy. Worried that these uncontrolled emotions may bring harm to her loved ones she kept it all a secret from her family.

Staccato Ability: With the free and unrestricted passion of emotion music gives her, Alik’s Staccato abilities include a relentless and unpredictable persona. The uplifting and weightlessness of her body mass allows her to obtain perfect balance, making her fluid and acrobatic in her movements. In vocals in particular, artists such as Mariah Carey and Goldfrapp with their high notes can, if in the right moment, give her the ability to leap or fly a clear distance. Certain points in music can also give her an incredible burst of strength that can last a couple of moves.

Enhancements: Ailka can pick-up on the rawness and passion of singular tracks from various genres of music, including Kings of Leon, Mariah Carey, Goldfrapp, Snow Patrol, Foo Fighters and more, giving her a short and sudden boost of power and strength, although it takes half an hour to an hour for this to recharge.
The passion of music also changes her personality into what she is now referring to as ‘Holic’ something more unpredictable and animal-like in both her behaviour and attacks; this only adds to her agility and fluidity of movement. Since she cannot sing a note, her lip-syncing is immaculate, and if a particular strong or high-note is reached in the song this is channelled through to her own vocal chords and expelled similar to sonar, which can shatter glass and cause disorientation, though again, this needs a good 30-60 minutes to re-charge.

Very rarely, when the music is mellow enough Ailka can enter a brief moment of peace, her movements become slow, as if she is under water, this usually happening after that wild and exhausting persona of hers has subsided.

Weaknesses: Music or tracks of music that she doesn’t like, or can’t catch the beat to, wipes her out, from a drugged and clumsy confusion to completely blacking out for 5 to 15 minutes. This kind of music includes country, metal and screamo, although it could very well be an RnB song or artist that she can’t find a connection with, which will also reduce her agility and balance or knock her out. (And alternately it could be a certain metal track that gives her a boost.)

Character Name: Roy Catalo

Age: 21

Description: http://endlessaky.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/ryunosuke-miyaji-anime-guys-18246374-2560-15192.jpg

Background: When Roy was born, his family already knew there was something special about him. As he grew up he had a very kind heart, going through elementary school he was a favorite of everyone. Teachers, students. He had multiple girlfriends before he hit middle school. When middle school came, he moved away and went to a new school, a school that changed him forever. Everyday he was constantly bullied, shoved into lockers, swirled in used toilet water, beat up constantly. His grades slipped and his parents began to fight more. One day he arrived home to find his mother dead on the floor and his father with a knife in his hand. After seeing this he ran, his father chasing him where he was arrested and sent to prison. Roy went into a depression and was sent from school to school, foster home to foster home until he eventually hit high school. As he attended high school he moved around a lot, never making any real close connections to anyone, so he became engulfed in his music. He felt different every time he listened to music, and he knew he was different.
Eventually he found a girl and felt like he really loved her. She was one of a kind like him, and they dated for years. They were happy, and were going to get married once they finished school, long distance or not, until the day she died in a horrific car wreck, that was his fault. He blamed himself for years and his depression only began to get worse.
One day he got into a fight at his new school that he was attending. He lost the fight terribly and went to his music to satisfy him. He noticed that every song he listened to had a fast paced beat and he always ignored his gut movements when he listened to it. He put in his headphones on day at school, and the same person he had gotten into a fight with on the first day wanted to go again. This time he listened to his gut movements as he listened his fast paced beats and music and sent him to the hospital. After this he realized he was a Staccato and had to be careful with what he did from now on.
As life moved on he turned 18 and left all foster care for good. He attended college until he was 21 where things were rather calm, but then again he was mostly a quiet shut in person. He made only a few friends that were very close to him. Rojer, who he felt understood him the most was his closest friend, and like the brother he never had. It brought out the real him, but everyone else only felt the negative energy radiate off of his body and knew not to mess with him when his music was in - which was all the time-.
When he turned 21 he dropped out of college and moved to the culdisac where he currently lives, shut in and quiet. Not bothering anyone unless he has to.

Staccato Ability : Beat Movement - Roy has no set style of music he listens to, anything with constant beat and -depending on his mood at the time- speed, usage of instruments, and lyrics spoken will change his fighting style and reaction time. Things with precision beats will make him sharper in instinct and movements, while sad slow songs make him more on edge and more random. Anything in between... well that all depends on the song.

Enhancements: Depending on the type of song it will only improve two attributes of himself. For example, if it's a rap song, and it's fast paced with a strong constant beat, it will increase his natural survival and overall precision of attacks. While if the song is metal and has a long hard metal guitar solo, his strength and rage(which would make him faster) will increase.

Weaknesses: If the song has a strong constant beat he will tend to follow the flow of the beat, which therefore makes him highly predictable if the opponent catches on to the flow of the music. Also, after each song (depending on the speed of the song and style of the song) he becomes slower. For example, if it's a super fast paced heavy metal song, once the song is over the next song he listens to will result in slower attack speed and strength deprivation.

RPG! *-* Involving music and powers, I'm in!

Character Name: Dylan Rogers

Age: 16

Description: http://i.imgur.com/FCIaLrX.png
Dylan is energetic, carefree, childish, and hot tempered. It is hard to get along with him; He's a bit arrogant, so he doesn't have many friends. But if you are able to follow his electric rhythm and don't feel provoked or offended by his jokes, he can be a great friend. He is much more gentle than he appears to be, and will help one whenever it is needed. Even though Dylan also thinks he can do more than he really can, so he may fail on protecting other people as well as himself. He gets disappointed at his own strength really often. He is 5 feet and 8 inches tall.

Background: Since the age of four, Dylan has moved once every two years with his parents, thanks to his father's job. He already lived overseas and his few friends are scattered all over the country and world.
In one of the schools he studied in, on seventh grade, he was the wolf on a musical interpretation of The Red Riding Hood, and was supposed to 'fight' with the hunter for a while, "so that it'll have more impact!", the teacher said. During the rehearsals, everything went fine, but for the presentation, background songs were used. Dylan was envolved by the song used during the wolf and the hunter's scene. He found the rhythm so exciting, and the loud guitar melody so fascinating, that he ended up truly hurting the other boy. After that incident, he didn't go to school for the rest of the year and left the city without finishing seventh grade. From then on, he knew something was different him, but decided to ignore it once he didn't know what exactly.
Dylan was supposed, and it was no news, to start living alone when he turned 16. That was what he and his parents had agreed years ago. They said that, with that age, he would be able to take care of himself, and that he shouldn't make his parents worry about him and nourish him anymore. And so it happened. While searching for a place to live, he found a tiny but cheap apartment in a cul-de-sac in the middle of nowhere. He was ready to mold of boredom there, but, coincidentally, there he heard of people with just the same abilities as he showed four years ago-- Staccatos. Would he get involved with those people?

Staccato Ability:
Bent Flarin' -- Causes the enemy or target to be surrounded by "chains" of fire. The more you move, the more it hurts you. Even though it looks like natural fire, it's not warm, and the burns caused by it are chemical ones. Once it is an ability for purposes of defense, it'll take a lot of the user's energy when hurting the opponent. Reacts the best to Rock-- not only American Rock. Ballad is its biggest obstacle.

Pothery Flow -- An offensive ability. It is basically fighting, but with an abnormal speed, and with extremely synchronized movements. The pain of the blows may also 'resonate' on the enemy, making the pain twice as much as normal and causing the psycological damage greater than the physical. As the movements are agile, the opponent cannot foresee the movement unless he/she has an ability involving it, but the user himself also had dificulties on seeing what's around him. Incredibly, doesn't spend as much energy as his defensive ability. Reacts the best to Rap. Blues is its biggest obstacle.

Enhancements: His movements/reactions are much faster and more violent than normal. Great damage.

Weaknesses: Exhaustion from using his abilities for too long. Slow tempos. Low success rate, once he's not experienced and is too young. Also, unnability to foresee others movements. Too much self confidence.

[[=v=" Is it okay if I added personality to the "Description"? Even though most of the people didn't... Should I take it out?]]

However not all weaknesses need be physical. You aren't a god, your abilities come with an inherent weakness, however you can later in the story create ways to overcome these weaknesses but they will never be fully gone):one word cuteness hates jazz and bully's

@Scourges daughter (http://www.animeforum.com/member.php?321710-Scourges-daughter)

Well where to start, I believe you'll probably have to redo the whole thing. First this is/was an RP set in the real world (crazy supernatural powers aside) so being half wolf with the ears and tails need to go, unless they're fake. In which case they can stay but you can't control them or anything. You and all of the other characters are only 100% human.

Second, you didn't explain your Staccato nature at all. You just gave bands that you would listen to to activate it. What does your ability do to your body that makes your abilities/perceptions/thoughts different from a normal human? Also what's the name of your Staccato?

Third, your increased speed and strength are understandable; but bombs? I assume that's what you meant to spell. How are you making these bombs? If you go back through the character sheets of everyone else you'll see that they all have a sense of reality to their abilities. They all draw off of systems that are in place in our bodies (e.g. temperature control, body density, electromagnetism, etc.). Think of it like Full Metal Alchemist, you can't make something out of nothing. This isn't magic.

Fourth you gave a type of music you're weak to, but didn't say how you're weak to it. When you hear it how does it affect your powers and your own physical functioning? If your character dislikes cute stuff, or can't help but be attracted to/drawn in by cute stuff then that's all well and good but it shouldn't have a Kryptonite-like reaction to your character. Same thing with bullies. Sure your character can dislike them but don't use that as a power decrease inducing weakness.

Try again with your character and if you have any questions on what you'd like to change then feel free to PM me. The story did die a little even before I had my little writing hiatus so it would most likely just be you and myself for a bit. But if people see posts going up maybe they'll join or come back. Also, please please please take a little time to re-read what it is you're typing for your posts/bio. Much of your character sheet is one large run on sentence with a lot of misspellings. If you were to post an entry into the game like that people would have no idea what you were trying to convey or describe. Take your time and have fun with your character and the story you want to tell with her, don't rush it. :)
