Remember these? The cartoons you can only see on Youtube? These are 11 cartoons from like 50+ years ago. They represent certain negative (and often mistaken) stereotypes that whites had about blacks. Often caricatured are facial features and also these contain exaggerations of black music too in some cases. They are often regarded as racist (the reason for not airing them in the present day), however while they may be regarded as insulting, I think "racist" is the wrong word. They don't proclaim "whites are better than blacks". They simply display an exaggerated version of the ideas that whites had about blacks at the time (most of which are inaccurate views that only would apply to some black people, certainly not their entire race as implied in these cartoons).

Of all of them, I think the one that is least offensive is Goldilocks And The Jivin Bears. Not sure what "Jivin" means but given what's in the video I'm guessing it has something to do with music and dancing. I say this is least offensive, because the one person who's actually human (the rest are bears and a wolf), she actually looks like a reasonable cartoon depiction of a black person, and not one of the black stereotype caricatures typical of cartoons from this era.

As such here's this Youtube video, the Goldilocks And The Three Bears video (not posting the others as they have much more offensive black stereotypes, so if you want to see them just search for them on Youtube)

For your info, the complete list (as found on Wikipedia) is:
1. Hittin' the Trail for Hallelujah Land
2. Sunday Go to Meetin' Time
3. Clean Pastures
4. Uncle Tom's Bungalow
5. Jungle Jitters
6. The Isle of Pingo Pongo
7. All This and Rabbit Stew
8. Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs
9. Tin Pan Alley Cats
10. Angel Puss
11. Goldilocks and the Jivin' Bears

Who here has seen these before? What do you think about them? Should they stay banned (not by FCC, or any law, these are actually banned currently by their own producers) in order to avoid offending African-Americans? Or do you think the companies that made them should get some courage and release these on DVD, so as to avoid simply sweeping uncomfortable history under the rug and pretending it never happened?

Please post your opinion.

>.>; Why does every thread you make have to be about something offensive? It's really getting sad and pathetic, dude.

As for the topic, Let the cartoons die like most of all the old cartoons until 50-60+ years from now and some jerk-off wants to re-make/re-release/bring them back from the dead to make money.

Also, btw. Jivin' is a slang term for "Jiving"; which is to Jive or to dance in a jive fashion, or to have a jive rhythm. And Jive means 1) to irritate or annoy, 2) to throw off someone's style, 3) pointless or deceptive talk/rhetoric, and/or 4) a colorful form of speaking (Sometimes hard to follow). There's more but you'd have to talk to someone that remembers the Disco Era to find out.

It is controversial yes, but that doesn't make it not a good topic. This is a serious issue. Classic cartoons not being treated with the US 1st Amendment rights, due to that they might offend some people. This is an important topic. It is a serious topic. I'm not joking. I'm not trolling. I meant this as a serious topic. And I hoped it would spark a great discussion. It is a very deep topic. And I am trying to give people a place to discuss it. And it is a cartoon, so it belongs in the Western Cartoons section.

In fact I'm surprised more people haven't heard of the Censored 11. I thought it was fairly common knowledge that there are these 11 cartoons that some regarded as too offensive to show, and so they have never been shown again. In fact, I'm surprised that there wasn't already a thread posted for these cartoons. I guess it takes an animation art fan such as myself to enlighten those who lack knowledge of such things.

Also not everything I post is controversial or offensive. Here's a small sample of just a few of the MANY unoffensive things I've posted.

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Of I know there's a couple of threads of yours that aren't offensive, but that many is a bit of a surprise.

Still doesn't change the fact that almost every other time I turn around there's some thread by you that about racism, sexism, porn, or something else that's controversial. Of course, you're not the only one, and some may feel your topics are important to a degree. But still, it gets old. Kinda like the people who only post current events and news in Misc. Enough of it already, got watch MLP or something.

Back to the topic. I feel there's a reason to the lack of knowledge. It's an effort to let the damn toons die, rather than constantly be brought up and constantly get people riled up about it. I do have to appual the producers for being pro-active about it and banning their use before anyone else.

Oh and btw, I was semi-wrong about the whole jive thing. The cartoon's use is mainly in reference to jive dancing/music.

Yeah, and it's like a forum with the predominant membership of 13-18-year old anime fans is going to be interested in how social and cultural opinion has evolved over the past 50 years. Didn't I post something like this in a different thread?

Welcome to Videogamer555, Def. Nobody else cares about stuff like this. Even McDoom knows where the line of common sense lies.
