Question To Main Site Admins Or Anyone Else

I was wondering if the topic is locked why does it still show up on the screen. I thought it might make sense just to delete it.

In most cases, it makes perfect sense. A topic is generally locked if it a) goes too far off-topic, B) turns into a fight, c) is inappropriate, d) has become too lengthy (perhaps others I'm not thinking of). Locking a topic allows the moderator or admin to explain their decision in locking it, while simply deleting is sure to result in confusion, anger, and lots of PMs.

There is a time and place for deleting a topic, but common practice is simply locking it. ^^;

Well in avatars I lock topics when I've uploaded the avatar and there's no reason for it anymore.

Also I lock the rules threads so no one'll reply to them.

Mods and Admin have a variety of reasons for locking topics but not deleting/moving them. One reason is, which was previously stated, to let people get notice to why the topic was closed. Another reason is because the thread is used as a resource thread and for viewing only. This includes threads such as forum rules.

Could you explain that a little better? You mean all the newest posts showing first when you enter the forum?

It's a setting in the admin control panel.
