I want to know if writing a Gundam story set in an alternate universe rather than the universes already used in a Gundam series is better. For example a current story I'm writing involves genetic engineering with alien DNA on children, a mad Muslim dictator that wants to take the entire world by force and a new engine drive. Now I set this to be in the Universal Century near the time of that horrific G-Saviour movie. Yet the stuff I changed would make it seem like it should belong in it's own universe. Not the Universal Century.
What would you think? Does it matter at all what universe it's set in? Would it make the story better if it's in it's own universe than an already existing Gundam universe?
