... is released soon. I preordered it, as it can't possibly be worse than Deus Ex 2. Only worry is that Square Enix is involved. They're hardly the people I'd entrust to make western style FPS-RPGs.

Here's some game play footage.

I'm excited, waiting for the reviews though. I liked Deus Ex 2 well enough (even though that makes me some form of demi-human), but the folks handling the licensee now are sufficiently different that I'd like to exercise caution.

Only semi-related, but I had a sudden urge to play Deus Ex, but I wondered if the high-rez mod ever happened. By pure coincidence the 1.0 released today, so I'll vomit it up here. It made a noticeable difference. I was able to get it to work with the Steam GotY edition no problem.

There are some up this second, although I don't think they were up yesterday. Anyway, almost to the airport.

I plan on getting this game.

Love me a good stealth game. Plus it lets you have a choices of what gameplay to choose.

I wish I could get it on Day 1.

I won the game, I was sad that it wasn't better connected with the first two though. I mean, you see a lot of Manderly email and wave at Tracer Tong and hear Bob Page in the after credit trailer and that's about it. I liked how MGS4-inspired some of it was, but the energy system was a heap of bad design. Melee attacks either shouldn't have been on it or it should have full-refillable-with-time.

First I believe Bob Page was also in the opening, also the preorder mission had you rescuing Tong prior to this mission. I agree with you that the energy system needs work. I would have liked it if as I bought more energy bars, it allowed more to be refilled over time, up to 3 total. Would have led to me using the camo more and the game would have moved at a much faster pace. Also would have been nice if the silent landing wasn't activated ability. Running I can understand, even falling from a height that would require the Icarus should make some noise, but not coming out of a high vent. Even Sam Fisher can do that, and he's an old man!

But regardless of flaws, this is a serious improvement over Invisible War and I hope to see more from Eidos Montreal.

My only beef with this game is the boss fights. As someone who played like John McClane rather than Rambo (and augmented and equipped accordingly), they're quite ridiculously difficult and stick out like a sore thumb from the rest of the game.

Great, now I'm really looking forward to the first one. I'm doing a non lethal play through and the only lethal weapon I have on me is the 10mm handgun. And does anyone know if alerted effects whether you get the ghost exp?

As long as they didn't see you it should be fine. I used distractions in the later half and still got the Ghost xp as well as Smooth Operator. And as for boss fights, long like the Typhoon! Even on the hardest difficulty I defeated the first two bosses in no time with it. Just not sure how the last two will be with it.

Yeah, just maxed hacking plus the one that reduces hacking detection. Got two point (or three can't remember) that are probably gonna go towards stealth. Though I may end up spending a point to move heavy objects. And thanks was wondering if it'd be plausible just to stick a silencer on the handgun and use that.

Well I do have the handgun as well, just as a back up since ammo is so plentiful. I really like Move Heavy Objects, the Stealth armor is great too. And while you won't use it often, since it can accidently kill people, get Smash Walls. It'll pay for itself with Praxis Kits hidden in the sewers of the two hub cities, and it'll become more useful in the later areas of the game. Just remember to close any doors nearby to muffle the noise. In fact most things that cost 2 points are really useful at some point. Stealth Enhancer is probably the weakest, as well as the Aim assist. Just save before you buy anything, check it out, and if you don't think it really adds much, reload. Just never spend all of your points, keep 2 in reserve for emergency upgrades.

You mean you need it to get those praxis or they're just hard to get without? And tried the sound indicator one but it didn't seem to do anything from what I could see. Unless it's just me being a ditz and not noticing a change. As for the reserve points, what I'm doing. And for the most part the entire stealth tree seems weak as you can do most of it without it if you're just observant and cautious.

You can't get those two without being able to smash through walls. And early on the Cloaking system isn't needed, it becomes a lot more useful later. I still use it sparingly due to it's energy usage, but gives you more options to get into a better position for takedowns. But of course that's your call. This is a "play it your way" type of game. Enjoy yourself and have fun. I've learned so much playing this game through that a second playthrough will be be a lot easier. I now carry a couple of emp and gas mines and grenades, for any and all situations along with my tranq rifle. In fact my big complaint is that they needed a throwing arc for grenades, because I find myself hitting obstacles or having the grenade fall short lol

I've heard that complaint a couple times, and I don't really share it. I played as a dweeby hacker-type most of the game on medium difficulty (at a certain point, at least if you hack everything like me, you end up with so many praxis that you run out of useful things to spend them on, so you become a golem that fires death lasers out his eyes while flying 30ft in the air in perma-stealth). My spoiler free boss walkthough. Most of these took a few lives to get down.

1st Aug- Shoots you with gun hand and spams grenades. Stun him with EMP and then spam high DPS weapons (My favorite, Shotgun with the mod that makes you fire 2 shells). Lather, rinse, repeat.
2nd Aug- Stealths around, then charges at you and explodes. If she explodes near the server-things around the room she stuns herself and accidentally damages you (a lot). Easy mode is to have the skin implant that makes you immune to electricity, I didn't though so the only way out is to pop painkillers like candy. Shoot her while stunned.
Helicopter- If you want to be a cool guy, defeat all of the enemys before they explode the object, or else run and ninja out. I defeated them, mostly by hiding at the front of the object behind cover and shooting every moving object with explodey revolver rounds. Probably the hardest boss if you want to resolve it like a hero.
3rd Aug- At this point, I had the grenade launcher and literally two shotted him with it. Seems like he'd be hard without it.
Final Boss - Grenade launcher the turrets, shotgun-mouthwash the computer parts, kill all robots/minions and then kill the boss. Easy.

Aim assist is mandatory if you want to use the sniper rifle. My "most useless praxis" goes to the Hacking Analyzer, Hacking: Fortify, Stealth Enhancer, and the Move Silently stuff (although the rest of leg enhancement is fine).

Sorry should have said that in my playthrough I was trying for the Pacifist and Foxiest of Hounds achievements, so stealth and nonlethal except for bosses. Also played on the hardest difficulty, so when I say that Typhoon made these guys really easy, its no joke. You also don't take damage during the long animation for the attack. And since I only used it during boss fights, had plenty of ammo. But using EMP's to stun the bosses helps, cause sometimes, especially the third boss, they try and move away from you right as you go into the animation. But honestly it's more fun to try and find a fun, more enjoyable way to kill them and only resort to the Typhoon when you can't seem to pull it off or you just want to move on.

Had no EMP grenades, and barely any ammo for my shotgun, and no other high-DPS weapons.

Didn't have the anti-EMP aug, and had no painkillers (only found like two bottles all game long).

This one wasn't really a boss fight. And it was fairly easy, too. I just sniped the heavies and EMP'd the mech.

3rd Aug- At this point, I had the grenade launcher and literally two shotted him with it. Seems like he'd be hard without it.

My explosive arsenal consisted of two frag mines. I also [did the ambiguous thing] that has you fighting with no augmentations and no working HUD (you basically have no way of telling if you have 20 HP or 100, the lack of a crosshair doesn't bother me though, as they are for quiche eaters and I use iron sights like god intended). So far I've attempted the fight about thirty times. Still no luck.

I guess it probably should be noted that by the end of the game my arsenal consisted of the laser cannon, grenade launcher, silenced homing-bullet combat rifle, explodey revolver, silenced armor piercing 10mm, a shotgun with nearly full upgrades, 3 emp mines, a few flashbang, a gas grenade and a normal grenade. I went out of my way to hack almost everything and thereby looted most everything. I guess you could characterize my early build as "CS major with an extreme case of kleptomania and paranoid delusions about everyone's email accounts". Also helps that my paranoid delusions meant I silenced 10mm'd/punched out almost every soldier, so low ammo was not a factor for me ever.

Also, I had a narco-nose. First time I bothered using pain killers was 2nd-Aug-person, and I had 7 or so. They were so useful I started buying the awesome narcotics-shot from every LIMB clinic I saw.

Yeah, I just have a silence 10mm, tranq riffle and dart gun. rest is about 40 of each hacking program, energy bars and boxes, and a ammo for the three weapons. Tried the P.E.P.s gun but it's useless. Also I never use the guns and just stealth knock out everyone. Currently sitting on 15 aug points I'm not sure I even need.

Second playthrough. This time I'm going all out rambo. The first factory hostage mission was a bloody massacre. I found the bomb and just shot it (which apparently disables it). Then zeke was all "Hurr! I've got a hostage!", so I shot him in the face. When I was done, I talked to SWAT NPCs and they commented on how I was technically a murderer and they had gotten there and found nothing but dead bodies.

Don't allocate too much time to it, though. You blast through the levels fairly quickly without all the stealthing and waiting. Intro + first mission was like two hours; in my first playthrough that was more like four.

GameGeeks

More for me since I'm also knocking everyone out. The forced alarm parts are a pain in the rear due to that. Though it's left me with more points then I know what to do with since I don't need things like HP or aim stabilizers. May take a few in armor for the electrical immunity for the second boss.

Why are you knocking everyone out when you can sneak past them?

Mostly for the exp and the challenge. That and the thought what the brass must think when they find their troops sleeping on the job.

Well the take downs are mostly for the challenge. But can't deny the grinding since I do hack everything even if I have the codes for the exp. Hacking is probably where I get 60% of my exp.
