View Full Version : Watch it or skip it?

I've noticed recently that there are some people who skip watching the anime (or even Live Action ones) opening and ending themes. I'm just wondering how many more are there in the world. And why.
And I also have this feeling that I'm the only one who watches the op and ed fully.
So... Do you watch the op and eds or do you skip it?
------------------------
As for me, I watch it. I even discontinued watching the DVDs I bought if they cut the op and/or ed themes and most especially the previews! Anyways, I like watching them. Or listening rather. They add a little to my J-music library. And I really like listening to them. Plus, these days I really miss listening to Japanese music since I'm still sucked into the Hallyu wave.
Lastly, they are ideal for bathroom breaks or anything of the sort. XD
I always watch the openings. But I sometimes skip the endings, if I don't like them.

If I'm only watching one episode or really like the song I do, but if I'm watching a continuous amount of episodes I skip them.

I usually watch the opening and ending themes, especially if it's been a while since I watched the last episode, to help get me immersed into the mood of the series (sometimes I like how a scene cuts to the credits and a slow songs starts playing after a particularly suspenseful or climatic ending, for example, and I feel you're losing something when you skip that part). Although, if I'm marathoning a series I start skipping them after the first few episodes.

I'll watch an opening once unless they are good then I'll occasionally watch or listen. Other than that I'll just skip them just like the ending.

I watch it once. Maybe twice. Then I start skipping. Never watch the closing though. Never really like them and they seem to have annoying songs back there.

If I like an OP/ED I'll watch it. If I don't like an OP/ED I'll skip it. If I'm meh on it then it depends on my mood.

I usually skip it unless I really like it. I just want to get straight to the show.

Usually I let the opening play while I get my dinner/lunch ready. Sometimes I watch because I like the opening (Toradora!/Durarara!!!)

Agreed.
I don't usually dislike an OP/ED because I try to find something to like about it for each show. But I don't let it make or break my viewing of the show itself. If I do happen to dislike the OP/ED I just sort of ignore it; but I will say though a show is way better with a fitting OP/ED.

I usually watch the opening, but I tend to skip the ending after I've seen it once already.

I like to watch both every now and again to keep them fresh in my mind.
Usually I just watch it one time and then for the next episodes, let it buffer, then skip over them.

Well, it really depends for me. With One Piece I watch the openings, but with pretty much everything else I skip over them. I will skip over them everytime if I'm marathoning a series.

I usually just listen to OPs while doing something else on internet.

I watch all the Openings Fully every time, but I watch the endings if I haven't seen them before, once i've seen them once i'll check if there are new ones afterwards.

It really depends on the song. I always give it a full listen the first time (no matter how crappy it is), but then, it depends. All possible combinations (only OP, only ED, both, neither) have occurred before.
Unless the song is so good I'm addicted to it, I'd skip it when marathoning the series. When not marathoning, I'd skip it when it's too average or crappy, but even then, I usually still skim through it at least in the first few episodes (and maybe in some random episodes later) to see if the scenes are changing. They do sometimes carry some meaning and hints.

Most of the time I watch the op and ed only once or twice.
If I like the songs I let it play while I do something else.
I always watch the op on Nichijou and Gintama 2 :D

I watch them once and then skip them.
same here, except if it's a really good opening, like the first opening to Ao no Exorcist, and the second ending to K-On!!
I usually watch them once, and then skip them, but for the EDs I always just watch about half of it the first time, to see if i even like it.
There are a few anime that I'll watch the entire ops and eds. for instance i really enjoyed the opening to Durarara!! and they integrated the "last time on" really well too.

Depends. Whenever I watch anime I'm usually going to marathon it, therefore I want to start right where I left off on the next episode so I'll skip the OP. I'll always watch the opening and ending a couple times while I marathon and I always watch the OP or ED if I think the music is catchy and I just like it overall. I'll sometimes even memorize the song and sing along. If it's a longer running series, they're bound to have multiple OPs and EDs, so when I notice a new one I'll go through and see if I like it. If it's not catchy enough, I'll continue to skip.
And occasionally they'll have slightly different endings for some anime. I remember watching One Piece and the ending song was the same but they had OP fanart that little children drew in the background. Each episode ED showcased different fanart from different children. I had to see each one since I was so curious, so in that case I watched all of the endings.
