I use Windows Media Player, it does everything I need it to do. And if I want something fancy, like showing my ablum collection, and a slideshow of photos of the artists, I'll use my Zune software Player.

Winamp, the ol' faithful music player since 1998. Sometimes, I'll use foobar2000 for its minimalist and tab playlist function. As for video, I prefer using MPC.

Best media player in my opinion? Media Player Classic (aka MPC).

Lightweight, lots of good options/tweaking for videos ... and with the right codecs will play ANYTHING.


However, I don't really use it that much and I tend to have the bogstandard windows media player 12 open to play music.

I just use WMP as a default for my audio player.

For video player, KMPlayer is by far the best...or at least the most powerful. The amount of user options and tools is almost overwhelming. MPC and VLC were really good, but they've since fallen behind.

Windows media for watching videos and moving song files cause I'm just too lazy to move them from the Downloads file the easy way.. I gotta click on it open it in windows.. Listen to it.. Save it in my music folder.

Foobar2000 for video game music in it's original console-specific file format (no mp3, no wav, no ogg, just NSF for NES music, SPC for SNES music, SID for Commodore64 music, etc). With the correct plugins, Foobar2000 will play most video game music that was directly ripped from the source media (roms, cartridges, game-disks, etc) but not converted to common audio formats, and therefore is actually in it's own format which is obviously system-specific/proprietary. If I need the music in some other use (such as to make an AMV with it) I can use Foobar2000 to convert it to the common format which is completely lossless called a WAV file.

It's funny how my Windows Media Player will happily play anything I tell it to - including ogg vorbis audio, matroska video and even Playstation game audio tracks.

As long as you have the DirectShow plug-ins for non-Windows native video & audio formats installed, the WMP will play it.

VLC for most things because you DON'T NEED to install codecs. It just can PLAY EVERYTHING (probably has a ton-load of built in codecs).

I use GOM for all the standard formats: FLV, MP4, MKV etc, and VLC for things like dvds and older video formats. Best freeware ever!
