Okay I've held this in for awhile because I don't want to be a sore loser, but how the hell is mista's entry even remotely good? Since you and the judges instantly choose this as a winner there must be something that I cannot see. I just don't get how anyone can look at this wall and see a winner with anything that stands above the competition, or even a decent wallpaper.

For starters, the composition is sloppy as hell. Record over here, mugen down there, another mugen over there, black borders that destroy any flow what so ever...etc. I can understand collages and trying to achieve a reckless look, but this just looks like the creator put no effort into planning or played with the images after dragging them on.

The techniques and skills are used are almost offensive to anyone that has put up work in the graphic/anime design scene. Gridlines? GRIDLINES!!?! People did that in 2001, and even then it was considered as a '**** noob' technique. What the hell is the line coming out of the text doing? It doesn't fit at all and hopelessly tries to come out of the wallpaper 3D style when there is a strong sense of 2D flat all over the wall. I assume the creator knew it looked crap and rather than killing it off he just fades it out. Why would you attempt to get the line to come out of the wall and achieve a sense of 3d realism if you end up fading it out? On that thought, why the hell is graffiti text trying to come out of the wall? Why the hell are the violent curves of the graffiti suddenly stuck onto a straight line? The only reason I can see for these is the creator just didn't think when making this.

Every image used in the wallpaper isn't cropped correctly. Perfect cropping is a standard in animewalling, it requires no brainpower, just the ablity to see jaggy lines all around your crop. Even first time wallers can get that right. That and the low quality and artifacts all over the wall make me see this as scrapy and something you just wouldn't expect from a 1st place animewaller.

For colours I can see a dominate fire colour theme, which I guess would fit for expressing mugen's character, but the theme is choppy and weakly built. The sticky taped on images hardly make a decent cohesion or contrast with the theme and the black borders just leave it for dead. Speaking of which, I can only see the black borders having a bad impact on anything in wall, they achieve nothing.

My last point, this is a wallpaper comp. If I set this as my desktop where do I put my icons? I only have 8 and the only way I can seem to fit them on without getting in the way of any focal points on the wall is by putting them in patches all over the wall. There is no designated space to put icons, meaning the wall doesn't even achieve it's sole purpose. How can something be given 1st prize if it can't even fit in the catagory of the competition? Ugh. As I said about the composition, there is none.

So basically I've take this wall bit by bit and come to my conclusion that this is a joke. I'm sure I've offended the creator, but my intent, as bitter as it may seem, was to only question the judging procedures with my own factual response to the wallpaper. I want to know what this does to stand above the competition, because from what I've heard this forum is renouned for it's design competitions being cheap popularity contests, and looking at the creator's popularity among the other forum users, I see reason to doubt the judgement.

First... Aren't you the guy who stole the tag from my wallpaper and used it on your own? Yeah, thoguht so... Yeah... This is what you took from my wallpaper right?



Second, the judging wasn't done by the forum staff, it was done by Tokyopop and Geneon. SOoo... If you want to complain go email them or something...

And yeah... I pretty much know my wallpaper was cluttered. But thats the thing when you're working for others on graphics and such... You dont create something that YOU want and like. You create something that you think THEY will like... And yeah.. I played around with images...

Here are four versions of my wallpaper that I could have submitted. There were about 10 or so altogether but I completely scrapped some.




The second one is the one I WOULD have submitted if it were a regular wallpaper contest.

And I don't see why you complain about my work when YOU stole some of it... Obviously you must have like what I did in order for you to edit your own walllpaper and add in my work.
