Confessions of an anime nerd

So I was thinking while driving today.. About some weird things anime fans have to say..

Mine would be that I feel horribly out of place when I look at manga sections in bookstores. My pink frilly shirts and short shorts just do not fit with everyone elses black oversized shorts and messenger bag with an anime series on it..

It also would be that I don't watch anime as much anymore.. I just visit AF and make anime signatures. lol.

Nah theres nothing wrong with that Just think of it as having a lot of free time! and if you still think your a nerd no one else knows youve watched and read this much anime

hey dont feel bad i've went into my local bookstore to look at manga and i have worn board shorts and a light blue surf shirt and flip flops and i stood out like a sore thumb but in the immortal words of my older brother enbrace the weirdness that is being a anime nerd, plus i go to a local comic book/game shop in town i get alot of looks due to my rareness of being a girl in one of those shops but hey that doesnt bother me

omg what a nerd! xP but my little sister (16 y/o) is definitely nerdier than you... she probably has read 500+ manga series that she can't even remember the plot of anything that she has read.

I barely watch any anime and only read the popular mangas (One Piece, Naruto, etc.) usually from WSJ. But my college friends thought I'm an anime nerd since I always use Miku as avatar in YM... HATSUNE MIKU IS NOT EQUAL TO ANIME!~ =o=

That is so weird... everytime I go to Chapters downtown that's EXACTLY what everyone is wearing in the manga section of the store. Is that more or less a standard for that sort of thing?

I dunno; never really read manga, but I do watch hella anime. Not the 2 or 3 hundred that others on here have watched, but I think I might be closing in on 90 or so...

Very few of my friends watch anime, and only generic action ones like Afro Samurai; so I sort'a keep in the closet about my addiction. I got my girflriend into it, so at least I don't have to hide out in the bedroom with a portable TV anymore; Jk; I told her up front so she knew what she was getting into.

But yeah; for the most part closet nerd like most, but I almost give myself away whenever I'm drunk.

You guys aren't nerds, you're geeks.
A geek is someone who has a specific thing they're experts on (Anime, video games, manga, Star Wars etc.), whereas a nerd is someone who's the same, only with academics.
Jobs like video game designer, comic shop owner, web designer etc. are geekier jobs.
Jobs like rocket scientist, computer programmer, engineer etc. are nerdier jobs.

So now, go out and be proud of how sexy geeks are.

Other than my old DBZ shirt I've worn proudly for 10 years, you wouldn't think I'm an anime fan based on appearance.

I'm pretty much here for the same reason as @Seung-li . Anyways, I'm more of a shojo manga nerd than an anime nerd. My small group of friends all throughout high school used to call me Momo, because they thought I was a lot like Momo from the manga, Peach Girl.

Not really an anime nerd currently. I don't watch a lot of it as of now, but I do search for a lot of it online. I also browse for hentai too lol. As for manga, I only completed a few series. I just don't like reading anything with actual, physical pages.

As much as I publically rave about hating Naruto & Bleach.. I actually used to "like" both of them [like..not obsess]... Then they got too long/overrated and too crazy of a fan base that I don't even bother.

I can't match up to Blue xD I've only seen like 20 series and read like 10. The thing with me is I like specific series and don't really tend to stray outside of them that much. Though I do if someone recommends a series or it looks really interesting.

I was under the assumption that being a nerd was indicative of bad social skills and knowledge of things that are not in mainstream culture. There's also some things about appearance and physical condition, but these seem to be non-conclusive.
