Hot Topic: good or evil?

I don't think I've ever asked anyone's opinion about this particular store. Friends usually tell me it ruins fashion and music, and I tend to agree. Occasionally they have good stuff there but what ruins the experience for me is the music they play in there. I f*cking HATE screamo! It's the epitome of teenage stupidity. It's loud, obnoxious and isn't even that creative, it's just repeating the 1/16th note on guitars and mostly scream about violence or anything that teens think is "hardcore." That and the crappy rap we have today and pop. There used to be a time where Hot Topic was about punk and metal but they sold out when they started bringing in the grozit pop cultures like the "skaters" and "gangstas" and I use that term VERY loosely. So you tell me, is Hot Topic good or is it an atom bomb on the intelligence of people?

Nah I'm just kidding. I go there occasionally to check out wallets and t-shirts. That's pretty much it though. And I listen to screamo as well, so long as the rhythm is good and the lyrics don't make me despise the human race. I don't see what the problem is. o.o If you don't like Hot Topic, then don't buy their merchandise; it's really that simple.

Music stores are GONE at least where I'm at... Best Buy is like the only store left other than the crappy selection at Target or Walmart, and then the now out-of-business Border's Books.
Truth be told I do all of my music shopping online anyway, but it is fun to browse a store, especially with HEADPHONES, like they have setup at Hot Topic (for CDs).

I usually get vinyls from shady guys on the street selling them for $1/record O_o; As for Hot Topic itself, I don't care for it much, but they have decent stuff every once in a while. Shame I don't actually wear t-shirts though.

id say good, i like the shirts they have in there most of the time. They also have funny little plush toys or stuff i might find interesting and the one by me doesnt play hardcore screamo music in the shop.... sooo i dont see anythin wrong with the store at all lol

I am poor, so I don't end up going to the actual mall that has a hot topic store(which is a good hour away, seeing as I am out in the middle of nowhere, Ohio). usually when I go though, (once every two years, maybe?) I see stuff in there I really want, but can't afford because I am a broke teen living off my parents, and currently have no job. Some of the stuff they have is awesome, but some is just creepy, I would rather shop there than other stores around though.

Oh Hot Topic...how I mourn thee....

First, I'll just say that I LOVE Hot Topic. I love (some) of the stuff that they sell. Most days, I look like a walking billboard for Hot Topic (I wear Tripp...everything). Usually, not a week goes by without me stopping by there.

Now, notice how I said stopping by versus actually buying something. My love for the store draws me to it every time I'm at the mall (and I work at a Macy's attached to the mall, so...), but I don't buy something every time I go there. That used to be the case a long time ago, but now I'm hard pressed to find anything in there that I actually like. I got a coupon not too long ago to receive $15 off of a $30+ purchase; I actually had a hard time finding enough stuff that I liked in order to get it to the $30 minimum.

Hot Topic is no longer the punk/metal/gothic (sorta kinda...if you squint) store that it used to be; now its mostly a pop culture store. Sure, I can get some pretty cool albums from there, but the rest of the store is Lady Gaga, Twilight, Justin Bieber, and every other rapper under the sun. And instead of some good hard rock/heavy metal songs playing in the store, I have to put up with listening to "Firework" and "Party Rock Anthem" for the billionth time.

The closest Hot Topic in my area is 2 hours away, haha! It's just a store... I don't like most of the music scene kids (mostly their fan base) listen to, but sometimes there's some good accessories there. I brought a Sailor Moon hoodie from the one in Escondido, CA 2months ago.

That's probably what that person meant; death metal growling, which I completely don't understand the appeal either but to each his own.
