Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
This is going to sound dumb, but... is it a mountain? I'm not sure if it is, that's just what I see.
It is. I was playing with rocks and shading and so I added lots of unusual cliffs and rocks to play with, way more than what you'd find on a mountain, so I can see why you hesitate.
I drew it just to try out a pencil setting I stumbled onto in the gimp that allows me to shift color with pen pressure, allowing much faster and smoother transitions between dark and light shades of the same color.

It looks like there'd be a medieval fortress just over the top and out of sight. I like it.
I thought it was a huge rhino with teeth at its side or a mountain but since you said it's a mountain it's a mountain. If you have a huge imagination (or under the influence) you can see an eye and at the side comes down the teeth and all that.
I can tell its a mountain, almost looks like there's a road winding through it.
A MaruDashi Creation
How about this one? (It started out as a cave, but sort of became abstract along the way)
Also, I turned it upside-down, because I liked it better that way.

Ah, at first glance I didn't notice the ...stalagmites? It doesn't look like a cave to me. But then, what do I know?
I now know what hell sounds like; I recommend a tactical nuclear strike on my position. Tell my family I love them.
It looks like a cave now, but the center of the cave looks like a slightly open coffin to me.

I think it was a good idea making it face upside down =]. Looks good to me lol.
That does look like a cave from far away.
On this day of days, most epic and prideful, you were born 15 whole American years ago!
Through the odds and by doing the impossible, you beat out hundreds of thousands of siblings in the great sperm race for the coveted egg.
Probably via hax.
Regardless! You won!
So remember, whenever someone picks on you or calls you weak or small.
Just remind them that you beat out a few hundred thousand other wimps.
And the grand prize was not dying!

The second one reminds me a bit of Munch's ”The Scream".O_o;
ELPHABA LIVES!!
Added some color and foliage to the second. Not sure if it made it better or worse.

Didn't know you like to draw, Anger Bag!. I think the foliage does enhance the picture but gosh, why such dark skies? Not that I'm trying to say you shouldn't do it, but it does make your images look very very depressing. If that's what you are going for then cool.
You've definitely got the preliminary shades down on your latest one. I think you should start using some smaller brushes to define those mountains and foliage better. It will also help sharpen the image.
Great job so far though. It's nice to see someone around here who is actually doing landscapes and trying to make them look realistic. I look forward to your future works.
Also, I can't stand the brushes in the Gimp for digital painting. I don't know how you can even manage to tolerate it.
I don't know. The sky in the first picture was so bright, and I wanted to experiment a bit.
Couldn't. I usually work in humongous resolutions and then resize them down when I'm finished, but this one I started out at a small resolution (as it is now), and therefore, detail work wouldn't be possible. I think it was a meaningful exercise though.
I don't know. I really just use one or two fairly nondescript brushes that I resize. Doesn't really bother me that much. I'm mostly experimenting with trying to simulate various painting techniques purely with tablet pressure settings.

Heh, I've improved the technique even further. I'm really getting this mock oil painting down.
I'm not quite happy with the shadows, but then again, I really just doodled it together to get a feel for what's possible with the technique.

Rendered the second mountains scene again in mock oil.

More light and color play. I'm getting the hang of this...

Added more details to the mountain scene.

Wow, that's really good. Nice job Anger bag! (or whatever name you choose to go by).
Thanks.
I attempted to paint a face. Turned out so-so.
