My first wallpaper... Ever

So, I downloaded GIMP a while back in case I ever wanted to learn how to use it, well I decided to play around with it tonight and I came out with a result. This is my first time ever making anything like this and I thought I might as well post it up here because you all are cool and will give me amazing feedback. I know it isn't the best, but I want to see if you guys think I could continue to grow in making different graphics with GIMP, because I actually had a lot of fun making this. Thanks sooo much ^-^

Well if you had fun making it, I don't see why you shouldn't continue. For your first one its okay, I can tell you used some brushes for the background. But to me the character just sticks out way to much, and it seems like all you did was make a background and slapped a render ontop of it. Maybe make the character blend in better next time.

Pretty much what Daken said. However you do have a sense of color scheme just no sense of space. Have you gotten really good at signature making yet?

To improve your wallpaper skills I suggest signatures > Larger Size projects > wallpapers. To get a really good idea of space and how to use it. Wallpapers have a LOT of space for you to have to fill and just doing a brushed BG isn't filling space. Also you need to work on your text. It blends in to the point I don't really want to read it.

I liked the color mix you did.

The character is a little "out of the picture" - that's kinda the idea i had, the background stole the attention. On the next one try that.

@~Yin~ : Aww, I think it looks very nice... it's simple but not too much. The background looks sort of edgy, even if that wasn't your original intention. The coloring of the character's name was overkill in that it clashed ordinarily with the background colors, but overall it's a great first try at a wallpaper.

I give it an 8 out of 10. Good job.

This is adorable but could add more designing! Keep practising though, I know this could be one of the best wallpapers I'd use for my desktop haha. (if you allow me)

Well i like your Anime character.But there is no background color in this pic and your anime character is a little bit "out of the pictur.Your starting is good keep it up.You must do a little more work on it.i like the color mixing in this picture.
