Nintendo cutting NGC Support

Starting on October 23, Nintendo will be shipping a black Wii with New Super Mario Bros Wii, a Motionplus controller and the soundtrack to Super Mario Galaxy. But it will be without Gamecube support.

I think the issue is that it doesn't say No Gamecube games support but it says No Gamecube support which COULD mean that they will removed Gamecube cards compatibility and not to mention Gamecube controllers. Although I assume that those who care about playing Gamecube games or playing Brawl with a Gamecube controller already has both Wii and a GC by now I still is pretty stupid to remove these features.

I know it makes costs a lot less but the Wii was already cheap as it is.

That's sad... I love my NGC.. Have no need to get a wii with it. Not into all those fancy smancy stuff. Sad it doesn't get new releases but I'm happy with my games that I do have for it =D

How much cheaper are they trying to make these things? Haven't they realized everyone that gives a hell about the Wii has one (along with their mother, their grandparents and their dog). These things are already cheaper than DSes.

That's apparently the thing though.. The price for them isn't dropping even without less features..

Unless you mean cheaper to make? And that's the problem with a Wii. It's a family console. Unless you have multiple family members you don't really need one. I know families with multiple PS3's and 360's in the house but only one Wii. You don't need multiples and if you're a small family you don't even need one you just can visit a friend who has one and perhaps play it there. They don't have much of a good single player variety IMO. Bunch of childish games.

Oh derp you're right, I misread the OP. I assumed there was going to be a further price drop without backwards compatibility. And I've seen these on sale at my Wal-Mart/Gamestop for as low as 119.99 (this was a bundle with some Mario game or first party title + extra controller). Maybe they're just assuming that everyone that wants GC support has one by now? Or this might just be a last ditch "Oh I sure wanna play Skyward Sword" death rattle for Christmas.

Then again it's probably not the best sign that the most use I've gotten out of my Wii has been Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario.

I have no problem with this. Its going to happen eventually. I have a Wii with GC support and I use it on a regular basis, its not like I'm going to buy a new one any soon.

The only reason I've been looking into a Wii is because I miss playing my Gamecube games.

If I buy one I better find one with NGC support.

All jokes aside. I really don't understand how having a black Wii without NGC = White Wii with? Having it black does not instantly increase it's worth by a few hundred to make up for not being NGC compatible.
