Destiny - Guide to Exotic Gear and Items

Ok for all you guys who have Destiny and would like to know how to obtain Exotic gear and items without getting them as rewards, here's a quick little guide/explanation of that.

Finding the Exotic Vendor (Xur, Agent of the Nine) -
Xur wears a black hood and black coat. His face is hidden except for his glowing yellow eyes. He is found downstairs next to the Crucible vendor or in the bar at the bottom of the Hangar. He appears every weekend starting Friday and leaving at 9:00am Sunday morning.

The known currency he accepts so far is Strange Coins, Glass Shards, and Black Market Coupons. This first weekend he only was accepting Strange Coins. (Don't know how to acquire Black Market Coupons or Glass Shards yet).

Items he sells: Exotic Armor, Weapons, Engrams, Boosters for Sparrows, and Upgrades.

Weapons are 23 coins and armor is 13 coins. (Prices so far)

Strange Coins are acquired by a few ways:
1. Getting Gold Tier in the first public event of the day.
2. Crucible Rewards
3. Rare and Legendary Engrams (Better chance with higher Cryptarch rank)
4. Completing the Weekly Strike Challenges.

If you can't find him in the hanger he also appears in the hallway next to the crucible armories

I saw him yesterday, so it's definitely not 'only Saturdays'.

I'm not exactly sure how to get half of the currencies you listed. I know you get Strange Coins from the weekly heroic strike but I've not even found enough gear to get above level 20 yet so I can't really attempt that.

all you need is pieces of armor containing light.....pretty much just rare armor.....i did the campaign and i got rare pieces from engrams or crucible....all you need is all rare armor then you rank up to 21 it took me some time

And I found him today in the hangar. Let the coin farming begin!

There's chance to get strange coins from the random map events and a rarer chance to get during crucible PVP.
