Default Why is it that torrents are sometimes very slow/completely stop and other times fast?

I'm torrenting some anime right now. And I noticed that some of torrents are very fast, while others are not. Similarly, the same torrent can have very high speeds (up to 500kps) and then it would slow down to a halt (to 0kps)..by the waykps stands for kilobytes per second. Why does this happen and what is the best solution to the inconsistent speeds of torrents? How do I maintain a consistent downloading/uploading speed for torrenting anime and other cool stuff? Anywhere from 50kp/s to 300kp/s is a good downloading speed for my torrents.

peer to peer exchange in general (which is what torrent also is) has its speed depending on the seeders
seeders are both those who have a file complete or downloading
you need to remember that while your download speed of your internet connection might be lets say 200 kbps at the same time your upload speed can be around 25~50kbps depending on the connection
so if the file has one seeders then your download speed it depends on their upload speed
popular file that have many seeders combine the speeds of many to give you a download speed up to your own connection's download speed.

(I know that the forums do not like talks about anime downloads because of the illegal part of this issue, so I only answered this from a technical perspective on peer to peer exchange which is legit, as long of course as the exchanged file is not protected under copyright laws)
