well toy is something i use to refer to them. The same way that i refer to a motorcycle as a toy. I acknowledge and and accept the responsibility of owning something that can injure or kill myself and/or someone else. That being said, i own it not because its particularly useful, but because its fun. Therefore its a toy in my eyes. Well, my shotty is very useful. Killed myself some dinner while campin plenty of times with my trust 12.

Suppression systems for fireamrs in the US are heavily regulated by the Federal Gov't.Originally Posted by sunnyside:2708476
Ugh, that is such an unhealthy lifestyle.
Anyway.
I own a gun, and work with a partner to sell leather gun holsters to competition cowboy shooters. I uh, don't know much about them other than the fact that you shouldn't point them at something you don't intend to destroy!

While I applaud your desire to make the world a safer place I just wanted to point out that at least here in the USA the legal/illegal issue would not do much to make it safer. Most criminals have acquired guns illegally anyhow. And think about it, crime itself is illegal, and that doesn't stop a criminal from murdering (and criminals can use many things other than guns to commit crimes). The biggest thing making them illegal here will do is hurt us honest law abiding citizens who are responsible about gun ownership and use. I can honestly say that hunting is one of my two favorite pastimes (the other being hiking). Especially around here where there is a surplus of game animals like deer caused by our modern ways (clearing woods for farm fields, driving natural predators away, etc). I don't mean to get to philosophical but I think hunting connects me more to our ancestral ways. Back when being 'green' wasn't a new trendy thing that costs a lot of money but a way of life. Back before we were destroying the planet. Back when people had to fend for themselves instead of relying on mass produced crap from commercial farms. And this is all besides the fact that the USA wouldn't exist here today if it weren't for the fact that a bunch of people took up arms and fought back against are government. I'll refrain from delving into that subject though.
It does bother me greatly when I see jacka$$es in the woods being irresponsible with guns though. That's a failure of parenting and education.
Sorry Celiaorirene I hope it doesn't look like I was picking on you, and I too wish the world to be safer.

Eh, I have a Beretta model 96, which uses a .40 cal S&W round. It's pretty much a .40 cal version of the Beretta model 92, which is more known as the Beretta M9. It's a decent gun, I really enjoy it. It shoots well for me being a righty that shoots lefty. Don't have to worry about the rounds hitting me either due to them ejecting so high. I have it for self-defense in my home, and I have 3 11-round mags. So baddies beware. ;P I won't hesitate to make swiss cheese with 33 rounds.
Just make sure you shoot them in the front and not the back. You'll have a tough time proving self defense if they were running away. in short, don't hesitate
@T-Stew . it can be too safe. Ever walk across the street and almost get hit by a car? Then you start laughing hysterically. "Holy s**t that almost happened!" You never feel more alive than when you know you've just narrowly escaped death.
The world needs a little danger. Keeps it interesting haha

That's where the laws of the state of Alabama are a wonderful thing. I can still get away with it if I shot them in the back as they were leaving my house. Happened with a guy in Montgomery, shot a burglar in the back when the burglar was running out onto the street after robbing the place. Ruled in self-defense and nothing happened to the home owner.
Dad shot in the local PPC league, and I forget what handgun he used the first year, but came in second to last. The second year he picked up a High Standard Victor .22 and got 2nd place. Some 22's can be very accurate. And handy to use around the house too vs a shotgun for things like groundhogs, squirrels, coons, etc. Heck he takes it rabbit hunting instead of a shotgun. As for self defense, yeah a 22 isnt ideal but he can squeeze of 5 rounds in a blink and still hit coffee mug size pattern, I'm thinking 5-6 holes in your lungs will stop all but the most extreme assailants.
I'd love to get an accurate plinker like the High Standard Victor, but I'd given serious thought to a hand cannon like a Thompson Center Contender for deer hunting. But at the time I decided to get the new 20ga instead.
One of these in a 500 or 460 S&W...
I love how you can swap barrels and grips on the Contender. 14" long pistol barrels and also you can turn it into a riffle with a shoulder stock and 23" riffle barrels. Pricey though. Dad had one when I was a kid in .357 Rem Max (different than the 357 magnum... max was much bigger) but sold it after a wrist injury made it to painful and difficult to shoot large handguns.

Living in conservative states has it's advantages.
Was it that big gun on the second pic that reminds people of a Barrett .50 cal? ;P Kinda hard to miss. lolDid you guys scope that M107-A on the counter in the middle pic?
If you just want to get around decently, you can do that. But knowing the laws or at least know to research them can be a big help when dealing with folks and situations. Like the Carpet Baggers law in Alabama, that allows a contracted worker to sue the recipient of their work if the contractor isn't from the state and hasn't paid the contracted person.
@sunnyside Target shooting with .22s is wicked fun. Especially when you can make a competition out of it with family. [/QUOTE]
Yeah. I'd really encourage getting ahold of a .22 the first time you introduce somebody to shooting. Fairly practical as well.
I actually do have a high standard. My dad got it for me when I was born (it was the Olympic model for that year). However it's in .22 short. I don't know what your dad was shooting.
.22lr can and is used for self defense. It used to be popular with Mossad actually, that was because it can be very very silent. But it had to basically do the job too.
However you can have issues with penetration and especially fragementation and deflection if you have a less than ideal angle.
My understanding is that you'll spend some time and money, but it's pretty doable.
Until very recently they were effectively illegal in a few cities. And Chicago is still pretty annoying. Concealed carry still isn't legal in a meaningful way in a few states.
As long as the perp. is still on your property when ghetto cops show...you're fine.Originally Posted by DeathBlade/13.666:2709883

If you don't mind living under the FBI radar for the rest of your life? Suppression systems aren't regulated by them for no good reason.Originally Posted by sunnyside:2709974

In TX the robber has to be on the premises...some counties may take exception on where the perp was shot, as to where they took their last breath. But only a few counties.Originally Posted by DeathBlade/13.666:2709979
The standard arrow head muzzle was replaced on the 107 (latest version), with a round one for suppression compatibility out of the box. $13,000 + will get that beauty off the counter.
I looked in to it some more. Certain cities made it illegal to buy and sell guns within their borders. Chicago was one of these cities. However, it was not illegal to own guns as long as you did everything the rest of the state made you do (get a permit, register the weapon, etc...). So it was still legal to travel outside the city limits, buy a gun in a legal manner, and then take it back home with you.

Alabama > TX. ;P
Ah, that explains it. Though the idea of a .50 cal having a suppressor is laughable. It'll suppress it to the sound of a .30-06. lolThe standard arrow head muzzle was replaced on the 107 (latest version), with a round one for suppression compatibility out of the box. $13,000 + will get that beauty off the counter.
