Can anyone suggest an anime that matches this

Well I want one that isn't aimed at little kids for starters. So something that is grown up like FMA.

Also it would be better if it didn't have lots of scenes with Women hitting Men and its meant to be funny.


Something with a cool main character like Roy Mustang or Fuhrer Bradley off FMA brotherhood.

Mature anime with awesome characters:
Darker than Black
Deadman Wonderland - Don't like the main character as much but most Deadmen are awesome
Ichiban Ushirou no Daimao - Not as mature but you might like it
Hellsing OVA - Alucard is a beast and Seras becomes pretty awesome as well
Kara no Kyoukai - If you don't mind having an awesome woman as the main character, the 7 Kara no Kyoukai movies are excellent and features a mature story

Just adding my 2 cents, using FMA as the definition for a grown up anime sets the bar pretty low as it is a shounen. Though I can certainly see where you get that from due to the mature themes such as the death and failed resurrection of their mother and the genocide. Assuming you don't mind shounen, try Kaze no Stigma as I believe it sits in the same bar as FMA

Guess i'll throw in a few aswell:

Black Lagoon - One of the better action series' out there, with one of my all time favorite main characters; Revy.
Durarara!! - Great anime, simply one of my favorites in the "supernatural" department. Also got a cool set of characters, even though the main character is quite low in the "cool-scale".
Ergo Proxy - This may or may not be a bit too grown up for you, since you somehow decided that FMA is a "grown up" anime, though I would try it out if i were you, a very unique story with badass main characters and it focuses a lot on twisting your brain with information (the whole anime is a brain twister until the last few episodes, though bear with it).

Pretty much the only ones I can think of which Screwby haven't already told you about.

Konkulf helped me remember some other ones you might like.
Baccano! - Same guys that made Durarara!! One of the best set of characters. Alchemy is a major plot device.
Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ - Follows assassins who were unwittingly recruited by a new underworld organization.
Desert Punk - Funny main character. Bounty hunters in post apocalyptic setting
Samurai Champloo - Follows a rounin and a breakdancing vagabond who need to help a girl search for a samurai that smells of sunflowers. Really good.

In case you don't mind shounen, these anime have the character already start knowing his powers and having mastered most of it like in FMA setting them apart for typical shounen where the character has to learn his powers.
Chrome Shelled Regios - Interesting addition to post-apocalyptic setting
Dance in the Vampire Bund - Vampire/Werewolf story. I liked how the male lead is set up

Steins Gate I was hooked on it that I watched the first 15 episodes in one sitting, sat up until 4:40 am becaus I just had to continue, then watched the rest right away when I turned on the laptop again.

Darker Than Black What I`m watching atm, well I`m on the Gaiden episodes. It`s pretty cool.

Fate/Zero/ Fate/stay night You should watch Stay night before Zero even though Zero is a prequel to Stay Night, you`ll understand more of Zero if you watch Stay night first. Zero is deffinitly not aimed at kids, neither is Stay night.

Deadman Wonderland Quite blood and twisted, great xD

Detroit Metal City Short ona(only network anime) that is quite funny.

Higashi no Eden Pretty good, 1 season and 2 movies.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Horror, very bloody. There might be little girls in it(lolis), but it`s deffinitly not for little kids.
No matter how confused you get, continue it, watch season 2 too

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Not your regular magical girl anime, there`s no sparkles and glitter in this one. Great plot.

Elfen Lied Quite bloody and good story.

Death Note A must watch for people who like the kind of anime that you want.

Claymore Not for kids.
