Just a curious question. Why do so many people dislike GH/RB?

...I don't see how that relates to this thread honestly. But if guitar = win, and games = win, why doesn't a game with a guitar = win²?

My reasons for not liking it are fairly unique. First, I don't really like the guitar, and second I don't really like rock. So... yeah. Also, the fan base is pretty ridiculous; some of these kids actually think they can play a real guitar/base/drum/etc as a result. I'd much rather play a game with actual substance, storyline, original music, and characters.

I guess some "haters" reasoning behind that would be if you have the time and money to spend on all the Guitar Hero/Rock Band + Instruments, why don't you go out and buy a REAL instrument, and learn how to play that instead?

I personally don't care either way, trying to learn to play the Bass and enjoy Rock Band at parties. Eheheh.

I do not personally dislike GH or RB. Matter fact i had GH Metallica on preorder for sometime before i got it.. I myself am a classic rock fan... I just wish they would do like a Korn or a Tool one cause i love 90's rock and theres just not enough on there.. But i love all kinds of music so no haten on that lol.

My only concern is when is there going to be a Techno Hero or something.. Lol jk jk.. that would be fun though.. well i guess DDR counts as that doesnt it? Hummm... blabbering now.. first time ive posted in awhile.. guess it needs to be long and useless..

Firstly, it's ridiculous enough when some young'n' thinks their little band is going to make them rich and famous, and when these same whippersnappers get a similar attitude without actually even playing an instrument, I want to clobber 'em.

Secondly, there are so many bad covers in those games that it makes my head spin. It's almost always worst when they cover a song with synth in it, since they always seem to just leave it out.

Thirdly, I like fat layers of keyboards in rock, something GH/RB and its fans seem to avoid, and where's my Keytar Hero, damnit?

Fourthly, these dumb games and their ranking of the computer controlled incarnations of the guitarists encourage young, impressionable players to think of them a rock incarnate, when they aren't, and it's terribly limiting. I can't and don't want to recall how many times I've been able to match up someone's supposed favorite songs and musicians with the version of GH/RB they're playing.

Fifthly, where's the classical guitar? Some of that is far more impressive and heroic than the often mediocre rock found in GH/RB.

Sixthly, I can't attest to this, since I don't play guitar, but my younger brother plays bass guitar and my older brother plays guitar and bass, and both swear up and down that the gameplay doesn't reflect how difficult one song is to actually play, even comparing different songs in the game for relative difficulty.

Seventhly, the avatars/user created characters are always trite as Hell, mostly because the options given are a wealth of clichés.

Finally, given that Frets-on-Fire is completely free (excepting a few fonts, but they're still free of charge), I can feel confident saying that the cost of RB/GH can only be justified by royalties for songs and likenesses, and I can count on one hand those songs in GH/RB I like that weren't butchered covers, and so, as far as I am concerned, they aren't worth the price, by any stretch of my imagination.

i used to take guitar lessons. it didn't last long just so you know. anyway, my sister took the lessons with me. she used to talk about guitar hero to the teacher and he would get really upset when she would talk about playing all the different songs. he disliked gh/rb because they weren't real and taught kids nothing about how to play guitar and that there was no discipline in smashing buttons...

a lot of musicians don't agree with gh/rb. prince refused to have any of his songs placed on the games and so did a lot of artists. they feel the games create false images of what playing guitar is like.

personally, i think the games are an interesting way to experience music. yeah, they aren't the REAL thing, but not everyone has time and patience for the real thing.

as far as i can see gh/rb are hated for three main reasons.
1. because some people are really bad at it.
2. because it misinterprets real guitar playing by being a big game of simon says.
3. because some people have really bad reflexs.
personally i just hate that orange button. i still own/owned lots of the games though.

I beat easy and medium, got a little bit into hard and got bored playing the same songs.
Haven't really played it at all since.

Oh, and Rockband slows down the songs considerably.
Which is very annoying when you want it to be faster.
Even on breakneck speed I'm yawning.

Crank it up to Expert. I'm kind of the Hard/Expert mode player and it's pretty fast. Rock Band slowed it down so new comers can get used to hitting notes. Trust me, if you want fast, hit Expert mode.
