“When you're surrounded by all these people, it can be lonelier than when you're by yourself. You can be in a huge crowd, but if you don't feel like you can trust anyone or talk to anybody, you feel like you're really alone.” -- Fiona Apple
In what context are you seeking to view World War II? Saving Private Ryan is a great movie for depicting the combat of war (in graphic detail), as is the miniseries Band of Brothers, but Schindler's List is a grim depiction of the Holocaust. The Pianist, meanwhile, depicts tensions and relationships between Jews and Germans during WWII.
A lot of people give praise to Flags Of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima as well, which are kind of like companion movies (one depicts the Battle of Iwo Jima from the American side, the other from the Japanese side, or something like that).
As for World War I... not gonna find many. All Quiet on the Western Front was made into a film, I think? Never seen it, but the book is great.

As someone said , Band of Brother is pretty good. Enemy at the Gates is cool too , tough it focuses on the eastern front. The Pacific is also good , since it is pretty much the same as Band of Brothers but in the Pacific front.
“The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. stone crumbles. wood rots. people, well, they die. but things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.” - Chuck Palahniuk

300 is an excellent film for its historically accurate depiction of WW2. <-- Say this sentence verbatim to your teacher.
