    Thumbs up No sleep = Crazy

    Who here has sleeping issues? Who here has deprived themselves of sleep? Anyone have any situations or incidents that altered their perspective on reality? Well, I have!!!!
    I think I had a moment of some kind at how I talked to "nothing" for about 20 minutes. This "Nothing" was a figment of my imagination. I had a regular conversation with a blond girl in a maid's outfit. It didn't really went anywhere. It was just, weird. We talked to each other as if we we're casual friends, like that girl who was in your 3rd period class last year and you bumped into her kinda way. I told her how I can;t sleep, she told me why I should, and random sleep-health facts and the rest was foggy. The last thing I said was I guess I'll try and left my tv/game/lounge room to my bedroom and went to bed. AT 4 AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Luckily this was during last Spring Break).
    A more recent incident was that I couldn't sleep one school night, and I was working hard on a crapload of homework so, the next day I was tired as Hell! So, around 2nd period I was in a sleep/awake purgatory state and above me, a small cloud with a face, a bunny with wings and a cartoonish bat were asking me "are you ok? Reggie?" and such. Well, I won't say what my Real name is, but it's nothing close to Reggie!

    So I just wondered what's you people's thought on this, and If I'm not the only one here going crazy.

    Have had sleeping problems since i were 12˝yo. Usually only sleep 4 hours a night

    i always have sleeping issues. i think i generally get about an hour of sleep each night
    i tend to listen to music when i try to get to sleep, dunno why it helps, but it does, for me anyway

    I sit working on my pc every night till about 3-4 in the morning and i have to get up at 9 for school so i generally dont get alot of sleep but on weekends i try and catch that up haha i sleep till like 3 in the afternoon

    I've dealt with sleep deprivation throughout most of my life. Once I stayed up about 3 days straight while in school. When I got home I would just do coursework, search random subjects on the net, and play video games on and off. I didn't have any hallucinations and my mood didn't change all that much besides I was a bit more apathetic and inattentive. I hear of people having hallucinations and such after going so long without sleep but I have yet to experience it. Also, when going without long periods of sleep I felt weaker and weaker as time progressed (which isn't anomalous or anything, but it certainly did bug me when attempting to carry on everyday activities). I prefer not to deprive myself of sleep a lot because it tends to make me depressed and irritable.

    I used to have sleeping problems until a couple years later. Now I think my sleep is normal, but regardless of how tired I am, it doesn't affect the amount of time it takes for me to fall asleep. I have a ritual.

    I can sleep anytime, anywhere.

    But since friends and Eris told me about drinks like Dr Pepper are slow energy releasing drinks and make you much more tired I have gone off them and now always drink fruit drinks such as Ribena. I have felt a lot more active and awake now so that is an improvement. Although I am still usually awake until the early hours watching Anime, playing Eternal Sonata and doing coursework.
    But that cannot be helped.

    I don't deprive myself of sleep. I'm simply nocturnal, and sleep during the day. I will be like that 100% when summer vacation starts after I graduate high school next week, because then I don't have to take sleeping pills just to get me to sleep at night in order for me to wake at 6 in the morning.

    Lack of sleep does not alter my reality, it simply makes me a very angry person. My perspective of reality wouldn't be any different anyway, I see and hear hallusinations all the time so it really wouldn't make much of a difference. You should see the things when I'm AWAKE. Once in life science class about 2 years ago it randomly started raining in the classroom. o.O; I'm not crazy! I just have an imagination that isn't under control.. The perils of being an artist I swear e.e;

    I can get through a day, EASILY, on only say, 3-4 hours of sleep. However, after a week or so of only four hours of sleep, I start feeling sleep deprived and luckily this only happens on saturday or sunday, I sleep a full 24 hours. I don't really see anything when I'm tired, I'm just an angry, irritable, sick and exhausted person who doesn't say much.

    normally in order to get to sleep, I just lay there. However, If I get bored, it for some reason only makes me more wide awake, not sleepy. I listen to music, watch TV, eat something, talk to someone on the phone or text message on MSN mobile. Eventually at maybe about, eleven or midnight, I fall asleep. Then wake up at random intervals during the night, just like I did last night. That makes me angry too, because I love it when I get undisturbed sleep. But nooo... This time my cat decided not to sleep on the edge of my bed, but climb over everything and knock my stuff over! >.< Plus my dog gets in the way because she sleeps with me too, and my rats teeth making a loud CLANG noise as he chews on the bars of the cage. e.e;

    Insomnia is in most cases caused by poor sleep hygiene.

    Try the following:
    • Go to bed the same time every night.
    • Wake up the same time every morning.
    • Unwind a hour or two before hitting the sack. This means: No TV and No Computer immediately before sleep. Your eyes confuse the light from TVs and computers with sunlight, and think it's mid day. Try reading a book.
    • Your bed is ONLY for sleep and, if you're old enough, sex. No working/playing video games in your bed.
    • Vent stress, plan tomorrow in a diary before you go to sleep so that you don't have it running in your head.

    Wikipedia has more suggestions.

    I know at first this may seem like a drag, but you will pretty soon quite literally fall asleep the moment your head hits the pillow. It's crazy, wonderful, and so worth it.

    It's easy to live with as much sleep as you get by with, but it will grind you down until you're a mess, your school work is lagging and you feel empty inside. Good, regular sleep is seriously underrated. But then, I'm an old person sitting in a rocking chair on the porch yelling at kids to get off the lawn better part of the day. So I guess you'll have to learn it the hard way.

    I thought you had a certain electromagnetic weapon conveniently placed on your porch, discretely covered under a nonchalant cloak of some shape or form to deal with the kids. If not, you should take installing one into consideration. I hear death rays make good porch decorations this time of year.

    You'd think that, but I actually use a Tesla coil mounted on the roof. The porch is a disguised Faraday cage. I used to gun them down with a deathray, true, but it's so much fuss. Tesla coils barbecue anything conductive (e.g. children, dogs, birds) protruding off the lawn without me having to aim for it.

    The kids would spot the coil, had they been old enough to actually play Red Alert in their youth. But then they wouldn't be kids, but old people. Like me.

    Darn, I always thought Reggie was a cool name.

    I play video games ON my bed...hopefully that doesn't count. But this isn't about me. I heard drinking milk helps, and you shouldn't drink any caffeine at least 10 hours before your bed time. (I don't know how that's manageable for some, but maybe it'll help)

    I didn't really suffer like you did larivermm but I have gotten to the point where I was so sleep deprived that I would pass out for about 10 mins and each time I woke up I would wonder what I was doing. But then I would just recall what I was doing about 20 mins after. I sometimes do have a hard time sleeping but I just end up falling asleep anyways. The most case of sleep deprivation for me was at the beginning of this week. I had blacked out during my chem class. Almost hit my head on the table. But it helped, I was fully awake after that class for english. ^^

    I can never seem to fall asleep at night =[ and once I do I'm always so tired all the next day. The docters said I had low iron in my blood that caused me not to have energy T_T

    Milk could work. Dairy foods typically contain amino acid tryptophan, which is converted to hormones serotonin and melatonin; which is supposed to induce sleep. Because serotonin synthesizes monoamine transmitters and subsequently increase neurotransmitters in the brain it is thought to act as quite the good antidepressant. Melatonin plays a role in our endogeneously generated biochemical, physiological, and behavioral processes and because specific receptors are activated in the brain it is thought to work well at as an antioxidant and counteracts aquired immunodeficiencies. Thing is: I was just never big on milk. I never cared for it. Then again, I've mainly just drank water and the occassional soft drink throughout my life.

    Yep, I'm definitely deprived of sleep O_O; I've always had sleeping problems, and I read some things suggested above ^ But for me, it never works, regardless, unless you knock me out X.X or give me a sleeping pill. You should see me in the morning, with less than 3-4 hours(or no sleep at all), I always throw a temper tantrum and go out to start off another tired, endless, miserable day at school or(used to be)work -_- And go home and try to sleep again. But the only time I get good sleep is on the weekends...like Fridays and Saturdays Plus I'm picky, I have to have everything absolutely pefect inorder to get remotely enough sleep, you know, shades down, absolutely no noise, and in a non-cold-non hot, comfortable position.

    Oh, Hi-deeki, imagine... your kind not eating raw fish! ^_^

    Playing video games on, in, or under your bed are all bad for your sleep. But it's really only an issue if you regularly have problem falling asleep. If your sleep is impeccable, there is no need to fix what isn't broken. If you regularly flop around in bed for an hour before falling asleep, then you should a long hard look at your habits.

    I usually get at least 7 hours of sleep per night, because of school; to sleep by eleven, awake by six. However, it takes me about half an hour to get to sleep once I go to bed =/ When I don't get enough sleep, I get kinda touchy, lose ALL focus and can't concentrate, even if I get just one hour less of sleep. I also tend to laugh at everything, even if it isn't remotely funny. So yeah, I just fall apart when I lose sleep.

    As everyone else has mentioned, just dont play video games or get on the computer before you go to bed, it makes it hard for you to keep your eyes closed when you try to go to sleep (At least thats what happens to me.) Also, do something relaxing every day, like go for a walk, read or something similar. If you're constantly rushing and stressed out all day, its obvious that you'll have a hard time sleeping.

    I dont really have any other advice that someone hasn't already mentioned =/

    Hah. I've slept about a total of 30 minutes in the past 4 days. I've had problems sleeping my whole life. And yeah, it can make me feel like I'm crazy. I'll see things, hear things, laugh uncontrollably, feel like I"m floating, or have long conversations with various things. Last night, I was on the phone with my friend and I thought everything she said was hilarious and felt like my insides were being tickled by a feather... :/
