I think that romance series are aimed at the general public. Harem animes are somewhat romance but they're aimed at guys. Afterall, seeing girls act like that is pretty much like paradise to me.
And how is GITS sexist? Pengin-san is right. If a female lead kicks serious butt and her enemies are guys, wouldn't that say that females are superior?
And I think that Major Kusanagi wears that type of clothing so she can move better. It's just as Jo Carpenter said in the anime, Burst Angel when her friend commented on the way she dresses. "It's easier to move in them" thats what she said.
Or if ya want another, play the GITS game on the PS2. Major doesn't wear that kind of clothes but rather a special suit. I really like that game, afterall you don't see shooter games with a female lead too much don't ya. Bottomline is GITS ain't sexist. And she ain't treated like eyecandy. It's upto the viewers how they think of it. As I said before, I DIDN'T get "excited" in seeing Major even if she wears that sort of clothing.
