discuss and speculate on the incident in Korea.

I heard about that in the news this morning. I'm not really surprised by this.
First they sunk a South Korean warship back in March 2010 and now they are send shells over. What's next, nuclear bombs? Invasion? If North Korea does anything more to provoke the South then there more likely to be another war in Korea.
I've heard this over FB and I don't watch the news anymore. Its always something bad whenever I watch it for some reason. ;/
I hate war, and it doesn't matter on what side, innocent people die and its just horrible.
i heard the chinese are calling for a de-neucularization of korea as a whole and for one i agree with them.
North Korean needs to be stripped of their nuclear technology now. Because if they dropped a nuke on South Korea, it's gonna be the beginning of World War 3.(I just got that gut feeling ya know. I really hate war.) Why can't we have peace for like 100 years or something?
Man that is whack!
Token Black Guy
Nukes aren't really a particularly good offensive weapon. Because the moment you drop a nuke as a small guy, the rest of the world is going to go all paranoid and declare war on you. Their only useful role is deterrence, as nobody in their right mind goes to war against someone with nukes (c.f. the cold war). And WWIII isn't very likely either, as the conflict is geographically contained. Even if China springs to NK's aid (which is doubtful), America is too overstretched at the moment with Iraq and Afghanistan to do much about it, not to mention how war-weary it's people is, and the only other power with the military to attack China would be Russia, and they have no reason to do so.
I don't think either NK or SK wants war (as either side is going to suffer quite badly in such an event). At least from what we've seen so far, it's just posturing. Small aggressive moves to see where the other guy is at, and how they're gonna respond.

Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
North Korea's doing their pot shots again, trying to test South Korea and the U.S.. China's backing away slowly from Kim Jong Il, and South Korea + U.S. are increasing measures everytime this happens, and doing excerises to piss North Korea off...
Eventually North Korea's gonna keep on pushing, then push to far. China most likely won't help them, and hopefully U.S. will be mostly out of the Mid East by then.
But for now, we can take solice that no national country can attack us, even if we're still fighting over seas. We've got plenty of people still at home, plenty of others willing to join, and more will follow after an attack on us. Plus we've still got more nukes than anyone in the world, with full capabiliy to launch them by land, air, and/or sea at a moments notice. Thus we now just get hit by terrorists that don't like our influence on their country, yet bring us to their country by attacking us.
Americans seem to have strange ideas about some threat of being invaded. For practical reasons, it's extremely difficult to mount an invasion across an ocean. Even if someone were to invade across the ocean, and somehow succeed, ... then what? Half the western world is barely able to hold Iraq to a bunch of insurgents with AK-47s, how is a single country going to be able to hold half a frickin' continent on it's own? There never was any -, presently exists no -, and will likely never be any realistic threat of invasion.

Who said anything about invasions into America? North Korea will invade South Korea though, should another war start. Plus, it's harder to wipeout a small group of people whom dress and act like the innocent people they surround themselves with to kill. Fighting a nation is a hell of a lot easier, though many of the same tactics that the terrorists use in recruiting and killing, were also used during WWII by the Japanese, Korean War by North Korea, and Veitnam by the VC. The days of WWI and WWII in Europe were soldiers only fought other soldiers, and innocent people regardless of their views stayed out of the way, are all gone.
It's much easier to fight a uniformed soldier than to pick which of 3 elderly women with babies actually has a bomb wrapped in a blanket.

I just don't want this to escalate further into war. We're already facing problems with Iraq and getting involved in another conflict will further tear the nation apart.
Thanks for the sig Xey Oiz ^.^
What's with North Korea always the root of conflicts? Same thing when Japan warned North Korea that they were going to shoot down a satellite and if they did it meant act of war.
my aunt was born and raised in korea and she grew up during the war she has seen horrible things, i dont like war but sometimes if it means you have to protect your personal freedoms and family then i think its justified, i agree with my quote on my signature by paine from naruto
Religion, ideology, resources, land, spite, love or just because... No matter how pathetic the reason, it's enough to start war. War will never cease to exist... reasons can be thought up after the fact... Human nature pursues strife.
Paine (Naruto Shippuden)
Nothing much will change.
- NK isn't powerful or justified enough yet to take over SK yet, so it'll keep provoking.
- The US, SK, and the Western countries will strongly condemn NK, again.
- China, Russia, and the non-US-aligned countries will urge diplomacy and calmness, again.
- The UN won't be able to do anything drastic because China and Russia will block any serious effort.
Case closed.
Pretty much this. Nothing will come of it, the same way nothing comes out of any of the stupid things North Korea does.
In the highly unlikely situation that this does escalate, North Korea will fall. While China is their "ally", their ties with the rest of the world are stronger than with N.Korea. In all likelihood China may give support to N.Korea should the Korean War resume but if the US, as an ally of S.Korea, were to get involved I don't think it's too far of an assumption that China would stop or severely limit their support of N.Korea. War-weary though the US may be, it would be much easier to go to "all out" war against another nation than it has been to combat more-or-less rogue civilian organizations in the Middle East.
China and Russia are "allies" with N.Korea due to proximity, what with it being a "rogue nation" afterall, not out of some strong ideological bond, nor are they economically bound to N.Korea.
On the off chance this were to escalate, N.Korea would be screwed.
"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
I totally agree. It's pretty obvious that China is becoming increasing weary of NK's rogueness. Russia has never been really close with NK since the collapse of USSR; it just tends to side with China on things whenever the US is involved, ("enemy of my enemy is my friend"). It's very unlikely that China and Russia would actually lend any military support to NK in the event of an actual war because, like you said, they need to survive in the world and maintain good relationships with the other countries, since there's not much for them to get out of their relationship with NK.
Pretty much, NK can be easily taken care of in a war, but of course, in this pacifist world today, that's discouraged, and everyone being their lazy selves prefer to leave the status quo undisrupted. NK can just be its usual attention wh*r*.
