I can't speak for everyone, but some people use to get pulled into drama here; at least in the past. When the name of someone gets out who just wants to be referred to as their screen name, it tends to become more personal and drawn out. I understand that a simple first name is nothing, but I've gotten too accustom to going by CapnJack. This though shouldn't mean that others should hide their real name. It's solely up to them how comfortable they are with others knowing this.

Basically, "real name" means "real life" so people would rather separate that when on AF.
