Default Anime Behavior/Reactions vs the real world

So i notice there are some things that happen so frequently in anime, it makes me wonder if its based on a real life fact.
for example, getting bloody noses when seeing naked girls.
do you know anyone, or have you heard of anyone to whom this actually happened?
its something i've never personally experienced.

Are there any other things you think might be based on fact in regards to anime behavior/reactions?

its prolly just because anime is all about exaggeration. so i guess the excitement that one gets can result in ones heart pumping too hard and/or fast so a nosebleed occurs. but seriously... anime defies all logic, it like religion.

Hmm... well, sweatdrops, welling eyes, and even veins showing when a person is angered - I've seen those reactions irl!

I believe that most (if not all) character reactions in anime are actually based on (if not derive from real) life; however, that's not to say that every reaction has to be necessarily an exact match of its real life counterpart, and if that were the case then anime might as well be live action. The great thing about anime is its ability to outwardly express inner qualities and implied meaning in characters as opposed to other forms of animation. For example, when an anime character gets angry the head may be enlarged and/or the eyes may light up. We all know that those characteristics would be impossible irl - but those reaction's are still nonetheless true to that character's psycology; they're just being outwardly expressed so that the audience can better connect with that character's true feelings, and the extent to which they are being affected.

I can't explain the bloody nose thing though! XD I guess that's one exception where that demotivator you quoted answers that question better.

Well, I remember nosebleeds as a potentially dangerous result of drastically increased heartrate and bloodpressure of cocaine use. So, I guess hypothetically it might have happened somewhere at sometime for a pretty girl.

As far as acting like anime characters, "normal" people don't. At least not in America.

However some people who have watched a lot of anime will try and mimic anime reactions, sometimes throwing in a little Japanese like "Nani?????" or "Hai!!!".

i very much enjoyed reading your response, and the way you described some of the things as being a visual to expression of the feelings a character is experiencing actually made a lot of sense.
    thank you
wish i could do some of that stuff for real haha that'd be cool

Well I've never seen people with eyes that take up 40% of a face, to begin with. J/k though.
Anime-like reactions are pretty exaggerated, and people who try to act them out in real life situations, look pretty darn weird.

Sometimes it's hard to illustrate certain expressions, so anime is designed to make them more obvious. Take blushing for example, it's even hard to tell in real life is someone is blushing (unless they're super embarrassed or something). You'd have to get up close in personal ^.^ But in an anime, they often use faint red/pinkish lines across the middle of the face, or a more kawaii version of that, pink circles show either diagonally from the eyes, or right below them. Blush is my favorite type of make-up so I use it all the time <3

I think you guys might have a point there. In a lot of anime you really don't have a lot to work with expression wise, and so viewers might get confused to misunderstand a response if they don't throw in that sweatdrop or exagerate things.

Monster, which has much more elaborate and detailed art compared to a typical anime, doesn't really have any of the characters act like "anime characters".

Monster also doesn't have to stick crazy hair colors on characters, and people can actually change their clothes without the audience no longer being able to tell who they are. But it's probably expensive to do art like that.

On the note of expense, I suspect some of the long and drawn out reactions (and DBZ yells) might be motivated by being able to not animate as many frames.

I believe SOME behaviour in anime can be comparable to reality....

Except for the main male leads in those Harem shows. It defies logic with some of their actions. I understand that they have a selection of cute girls to choose from, but I mean come on, as if you dont have one girl you like?!?!?! And besides, many other guys I imagine would do anything to be in that situation, and more often then not, they take it for granted.
