Starting in August, the
United Kingdom will begin blocking online porn, both in private homes and in public places, Prime Minister David Cameron said in a speech Monday.
A number of major providers that deliver Internet service to
nearly 90 percent of U.K. homes have agreed to put in place "family-friendly filters" that will block porn sites by default.
"This is, quite simply, about how we protect children and their innocence," Cameron said,
according to a transcript of the speech.
The good news for porn fans is that the filters are optional. Still, if users don't actively refuse them, they will automatically take effect.
