Sitting through 220 and 320+ episodes of Naruto and Shippuden... 366 episodes of Bleach..

Lets do some math.. To watch just the main series of bleach (disclusing any OVA's, Extras, Movies) I would've spent 6 days, 2 hours, and 24 minutes on just Bleach alone. (add the movies and things it becomes 6 days and 9 hours)

For Naruto alone I'd spend 3 days and 16 hours on the show. Add shippuden and it becomes one week and two days I'd have to put towards Naruto. Add all the movies and OVA's to that and it becomes 1 week and 3 days of my time lost just watching naruto.

Personally, I don't want to waste that much of my time for just one anime series. I'm surely not going to spend 146 hours of my life watching bleach just so it's okay to to finally judge it after I lost 146 hours of my life.

So yeah, I'm one of those people. I don't regret it either lol.

I completely agree! I never bother watching series beyond 150 episodes. In the time it takes to complete a 200 episode series, you can watch like 75 thirteen episode series and, imo, get more enjoyment over watching one long drawn out story (if there is one). My friends call me weird for avoiding long series but whatever.

MY choice/belief is to at least finish a series to the end, but I usually avoid incredibly long anime (which usually happen to be mainstream stuff)

Yeah I'm that way, but worse ha. Even if I watch one episode of a show and don't like it, I now have to watch the whole thing. That's just the way I am. Luckily though when that has ever happened I turned out to love the anime in the end so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

Why force yourself to watch an anime you really seem to not like? Especially one 100+? Seems silly to me.

I do agree with Yoko that if you don't like it, there is no point watching it. But I do agree if people haven't seen it all they don't have the right to completely judge it.

@Zainox Yeah... I once watched the first episode of Mushishi and was like BORING. I actually fell asleep during it. (It was 2 in the morning though) and a month later I finished Elfen Lied annnd "what do I watch now?" Went back to Mushishi because my gut couldn't stand not finishing the show since I watched the first episode. Turns out, Mushishi is actually a REALLY good show lol. The same exact thing happened to me for Ghost Hound, Angel Beats!, and This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (Which actually did turn out to be a very appalling anime).

I dislike anime fan who don't appreciate other people taste of anime, going too far and having some rude words in order to express it.
Example : "This anime is the most terribly written stories and some of the worst characters i've seen"
For me, it's okay to criticize, but is it needed to say something like that ? is it better to change it this way ? :

The character part doesn't work. You can still like a character and think they're terribly written or vice-versa. Liking something and thinking it's good are very different.

Sometimes "isn't very good" or "is bad" isn't enough to explain how bad you think something is. Some things are terrible or awful and not just bad, some things are amazing or great and not just good.

I get annoyed by people who actually love anime but 'diss' it in public just to 'fit in'. If you like something that another person can't accept then you that person is probably someone you shouldn't be with.

Guess I'm a target for hate in this thread. I don't watch older anime nor do I watch mainstream. I don't bash them, I just don't watch them.


I've met a few of these, they're horrible... On a different site I visit, one person always brings up Steins;Gate, one brings up Darker Than Black, another brings of Death Note.

I guess my pet peeve is people who bash a show before watching it just because it's not in their normal genre.

Beyond that maybe a dozen that are good, but probably wouldnt watch em again or buy memorabilia, and maybe another dozen I just didnt care for. But I dont go around bragging to be a huge fan, but I freely admit to being a huge fan of a couple. I know my tastes are different, but I'd never diss an anime or anyone that likes one that I didnt, I am sure they are all great animes for someone. Part of my problem is time and availability. I watch maybe an episode every couple weeks. I also dont have cable or know great websites for anime, I mainly use netflix which is rather limited. But again I dont brag about being a huge fan or diss other shows, and always look forward to atleast trying new anime when I can.

People that will watch absolutely nothing besides one or two episodes of Bleach or Naruto and then go on about how they're such a big otaku. If they plan on watching more than that, then okay, that's a start, then I don't mind, but watching a couple episodes of one of the most popular anime series out there is like someone reading two pages of a Harry Potter book, stopping, never touching another movie or book in the series, and then going around saying how geeky and how much of a Potterhead they are.

This is not me bashing on any series mentioned. I got bored with both Bleach and Naruto after a while, but clearly a lot of people like them, and I respect that. But watching two episodes of an anime that you can't go anywhere without seeing an advertisement or some sort of merch for, be it on sale or on someone's shirt or something, tells me that you follow the crowd, not that you are a huge anime fan.

Probably anime elitists. I can understand why anime is great n' all, but you're pushing it when you say "the best animation from other countries shouldn't wipe its arse in the direction of the worst anime" and yes I have met people like this- I mentioned it in another thread how this little group was so convinced that Japanimation was the only type of animation worth your time that they went so far as to diss the likes of Snow White and The Lion King. Only makes hate-bias towards anime feel all the more like justice instead of idiocy. Which is sad. It's like saying a communist gets so under your skin that you want the Nazis to win.


Next up, those who say that Naruto or Bleach or Dragon Ball Z are the best anime ever. Especially DBZtards who couldn't let that Death Battle go. It's painstakingly obvious Goku is weaker than Superman Prime, but these arseknob Ztards really got on my nerves the other day... What's worse is that the guys behind Death Battle even made an article detailing each and every single point down to an irrefutably point, to a level where you yourself can measure it to be sure and Ztards will STILL say "You're just an idiot, Bro!!! Here's the TRUE FACTS!" Narutards are very close behind. Especially when you try to tell them that the series is okay but not the best. "Naruto IS the best. The characters are VERY deep. It's almost Shakespearean! XD!" No, dude. They aren't that deep.
Hastily tacking on backstory after backstory after backstory through use of near endless flashbacks and it only winds up making the character defeat the Big Bad of the Hour by overcoming some sort of previously-unmentioned wangst is not "deep." Naruto and Bleach proved that me overwhelmingly.

Behind that is the "Naruto is the WORST anime ever" crowd. These are just as bad as above to be honest. If Naruto is honestly the worst anime you've ever seen, then I'm sorry but you just haven't seen too many anime... If any beyond Naruto and Pokemon. Like I said, Naruto's okay. The animation does get fluid at times and the characters can be interesting and the battles don't suck.

After that, the Animetard. Not to be confused with the Anime Elitist, these are the ones who are pretty much the living embodiment of every negative cliche of otakus and anime fans. They're schizotypal anti-socials with no interest in a life or love and have decided to marry anime and Japan as a whole. Wait, that sounds like...

The people who watch Pokemon, Monsuno, Beyblade, and whatever other Saturday morning anime's on and say that they're into anime. I don't know- maybe I just can't stand Mons anime or maybe the fact that these anime (isn't Monsuno Western? Anime enough to me though) feel more like 30-minute long ads makes me feel like they're missing out on something and that something is real anime that isn't Product Placement.
Likewise, I also feel disdain for those who watch one or two episodes of an anime and then say that they're big fans of it.

Perhaps the anime fans who feel that they know all about Japan because they watch anime? Which is like saying you know all about America because you watch Cartoon Network. Fun fact: most cartoons on air come from Canada, Derivative. N-never mind that little rant.

Anime fans who hate any anime that isn't filled with M-rated material comes next. Anime is still a cartoon and a cartoon is still a medium of entertainment: it can come in any damn flavor it wants to, whether that flavor be sweeter than diabetes or saltier than cum mixed with blood. I know Japan has much looser restrictions on aired material, but that doesn't mean that every single anime from there has to be a gore-filled cussfest to be "relevant." Yet they act like, because it's not, it might as well be an American cartoon. Sort of the opposite of America's attitude towards animation; "If it's animated, it has no business being serious/if it's worth doing, it's worth doing live action."

The worst type of anime fan is the same bad fan in any other medium. Things such as:

1. Hating pairings because they are same gender or vice versa.
2. Hating on other people's pairings
3. Hating on other people's media
4. Forcing your media on someone else
5. Disliking/liking a pairing/character just because they're popular/unpopular

Those are a few examples of what the kinds of fans I hate do.

Why are people saying they are targets due to opinions in this thread? People may disagree with certain anime fans, but in no way are they a target! Watch what you want and if someone bullies you for having a different opinion then defend yourself lol. No need to defend yourself before that.

Well yes of course you are right. Perhaps its like a guilty conscious? I know I'm not the typical anime fan. And I fit some of the description here partly, but I guess the big difference is I don't claim to be a huge fan or brag about it, or dis any animes I don't like. I do tend to answer all the "what's your favorite ____" type threads with stuff from one or two series though. But point taken.

i think that if you've seen 5 episodes of bleach or naruto, you've seen them all. neither show ever diverts from this formula:

>heroes get knocked around
>heroes find some fantasitic new power
>heroes defeat enemy

elapsed time: 46 minutes

and in between these *cough* "fights" there's some slapstick humor and character development. now that i think of it, there's more character development during the verbal debates - er i mean "fights" than there is in the interim, because, let's face it, when someone wants to kill you, you've gotta know their entire life history and proclaim that you must win this battle for your friends as often as possible.

bleach and naruto are kid shows, and kids like to see heroes woop the bad guys and get hurt in amusing ways. yeah, there's a plot in there somewhere, but as far as bleach is concerned, the plot is a device built to get Ichigo and friends from one confrontation to the next. i've only seen naruto up to around episode 30, but it's a safe bet that it follows the same formula as bleach indefinitely after that as well.

Not sure about that. When I think of kiddy anime Pokemon comes to mind. Both of those two animes you listed have blood and language, especially Bleach.

That's as far as the maturity goes with them though, they may have mature content but the stories and characters definitely aren't mature. If you took out the blood and language then they can easily be seen as kid's shows, even with them in they are shounen and fit the demographic well as they are targeted at teenage boys.

A real mature show is something that makes you think and deals with actual mature themes, Naruto and Bleach do not. They fit the bill for standard things that kid would like to see.

For example, Ghost in the Shell is a mature show. Even if there wasn't much blood or language it still deals with mature themes and can be fairly complicated. People say anime that are for mature audiences are so because of blood, language, nudity and such but those are just superficial elements. They don't add any real depth to something.

In my defense, I always recommend Clannad to people because its a really good anime. And its easier for people to get into if they've never seen anime before, considering it has a really good storyline and is very emotional.

The only fans I dislike are people who think less of you because you don't know as many anime or manga. I mean come on, some people ain't got time fo dat sometimes.

I like both mainstream and lesser known anime/manga so I can get a grasp of whats out there. I think the only mainstream anime and manga I don't really like much is Bleach, unless someone can convince me of why its worth a shot. Though its still good to take a look at it to see what all the fuss is about.
