I don't particularly care about global warming, but even if its effects have become negligible, there are still plenty of things to worry about: global dimming, peak oil, global smog satuation, super volcanoes, terrorist strike, thermal nuclear war resulting in nuclear winter, overpopulation, asteroid impact, super viruses, quark alteration, kuiper belt object (KBO) impact, Gliese 710 collision, polar ice caps melting, sterilization, nearby supernovae, micro black holes, gamma ray bursts, solar flares, alien invasion, sudden alteration of the laws of physics, an abrupt reality failure, or even global warming!

We're so screwed.

Yeah, definitely. Global Cooling is another effect, just as potentially dangerous, that may be concealing the true devastation global warming could reap should a greenhouse effect get out of hand. Personally, I think we're all just be worrying a bit too much about all this climate change. I do think that steps should be taken to garner more renewable energy to reduce the dependence on oil and fossil fuels, but worrying about long term effects like global warming and global cooling, especially with our present level of knowledge on the topic, seems rather silly. Or, perhaps more accurately, it could be called a little bit of fact saturated and covered with a whole lot of hype.

My advice: Just ignore it. There's a hundred different ways humanity could be wiped out next week, and global warming, or at least the real effects of it, isn't coming for another forty years at the least. There's yet to be a problem of this Earth that humans couldn't solve, and I honestly doubt global warming will be an exception.

This reminds me of that time when Britney's sister got pregnant, and they were making a report on it on this show, and talking about how she should get an abortion. At some point, a guy calls saying "I think she should get an abortion...", when asked why he thinks that, he replyies "Because of the global warming thing..."

Even if we ignore the climate effects of fossil fuels, there's still the fact that they are finite, and going to run out a lot sooner than a lot of people want them to. The end of the century, there will be no petroleum products, I'd be surprised if they are still around by 2050.

So, we have a choice of ignoring this fact and getting caught pants down when it does run out with a completely useless infrastructure, and a fall of Rome-style collapse of civilization; or preparing for it as we go along, having substitutes ready and available when they're necessary.

Wind mills, solar panels and nuclear power are used in power plants.
So the substitutes are here, and as the price of oil increases, the alternatives become more desirable. Let the market decide, there is no need for the government lead by a bunch of hippies to regulate what source of power we use. You already have David Suzuki suggesting locking up those who don't believe in Global Warming!

But what about the 50% not hippies, sometimes I feel it is best for America to let each state have its own set of rules, and minimize the role of the federal government, this way the hippies in the East coast and West coast, wont affect the lives of us non-hippies in the Midwest, The Rockies, Dixieland and Texas
