Well on AF I'm normally happy to befriend anyone on request--but in your case, you're asking someone to be your "best friend", not just any friend, right?

Well, while I'm all for the idea of developing friendships and all, I wouldn't just randomly appoint someone I've never met as my "best friend"--at least, not on a whim. For me, a "best friends" relationship is something that has to be first developed and then afterwards nurtured. It takes time and effort, and in this day and age, few people are willing to invest in either.

So if it's 'kay with you, for now I'd rather just be your friend instead?
