Well comparing the mechanics of Dead or Alive to Street Fighter is not a good comparison due to them being completely different. Street Fighter is a 2D fighter and Dead or Alive is not. Though, IMO Dead or Alive is superior when compared to Tekken. Though, that is opinion based. I forgot about Soul Caliber, I do actually enjoy that one.

King of Fighters
Completely different series, yes.. but the concept is too similar to any punch/kick fighting game. I've played at least one game in each of the series I mentioned, and I get the "feeling" of how the characters interact when fighting. I know that is opinion based, but I get the feeling that some of the characters seem stiff, not fluid, except Kasumi, Helena, Jan Lee, among others. Because of that, doing combos for some of the characters are so difficult for me when I play DOA. To be fair, I can easily say the same for Soul Calibur. I am biased towards Soul Calibur because I like weapon based fighting games WAY ABOVE hand to hand.
As for Street Fighter, I thought 4 was 3D. Never played it, but that's what I see in the trailers.

Super Smash Brothers!
He's just a dandy guy, in space.
Well I am a casual gamer.
You seem to not believe me when I said I played at least one game of the SF, Tekken, SC, DOA series. I know the each goes beyond the concept of simply punching or kicking, but those two simple acts are among it's foundation. Most seasoned players like yourself think beyond that, thus calling it a casual thing to say.
Again, I never played SF4, so I don't know that.
