So because of a couple of bad apples, the tree is rotten?

I mean, the american voice actors make the anime seem so childish and stupid.
You're not even making any sense.

I really dislike the Naruto dub when he says stuff like "Im gonna pulverize you!", Im just like WTF....that was so stupid, who uses the word pulverize anymore? Thats like a 1960's word
Inuyasha[Ocean GroupDub]. Pokemon[Both 4Kids and non-4kids Dub]. Cardcaptors[Ocean Group's horrid Dub of Cardcaptor Sakura]. Any 4kids Dub. Any Dub where the Dub actors who can't sing decide to sing. Example:

    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/buri...ure/2007-12-27

including Ocean Dub singing in Ranma 1/2.
    Hikaru no Go, D.N Angel.
    Pokemon.

Your problem with the translation is it's not literal? You can't fit the EXACT translation into a dub and have it make sense or flow normally. None of your examples are terrible, just average. One could argue that average is terrible, but that varies on the person.

    Im gonna pulverize you
Naruto is a naturally over the top show. In a world with ninjas in orange tracksuits, that's the least of your problems.

Most animes are a lot better in the original form but you can come across some that sound better dubbed for some odd reason. But for the most part animes are a whole lot better subbed because the american actors cant show the emotions that the creators wanted to show when they made it. But in the end to each their own, so if you like dubbed or subbed who cares what you like as long as you like it.

i like both but undubbed sounds funny and i have gotten used to it but i like dubbed because you don't have to read the subs and miss out of the clip... is that a good enough expiation?????

Dubs are really annoying, sometimes. They can't actually replace the quality of the original voice actor's voice. I lol-ed at the american dub of the InuYasha movie, it sounded really unnatural. Maybe it's just this whole thing about it being Japanese anime and not American. It's a kinda authenticity.

    Code Geass dubbed, anyone? ._.

Well-my top sig kinda gives away what my feelings toward dubbed anime are...heh...BUT-to go into explanation as to why I really dislike English dubbed anime-

Majority of English dubs sound forced and unnatural. There's either no emotional tone in the acting at all-or there's waaay too much. They speak far too slowly and over annunciate everything. They frequently pronounce simple names completely wrong-or change the name completely.

All to often the English voices are not suited well to the characters they're portraying at all. (not always the case, I admit, but very often is.) The English VAs sound ill-trained and rarely come across well due to this.

Also-the dubs often don't translate what's being said properly-and come out with a completely different sentence from what was originally intended by the creator.

These are the main reasons why I do not like English dubbed anime. I'll admit-there are a few, a scant few, anime that I can stand watching dubbed, however if given the option I would watch them subbed instead.

Your signature actually sparked mine. XD

Just out of curiosity, would you agree with me that the best way to watch anime is by learning Japanese and watching it without any subtitles at all?

Obviously this is not expected of many people. It is difficult for most and impossible for some, but theoretically speaking.

Would you also agree with some of us dub supporters, that there is a risk of breaking the concentration of action and art by reading subtitles at certain times? (of course the counter argument to this is that, by your standards, dubs equally or greater than distract from the piece through misinterpretation or poor quality, the question assumes that not withstanding.)

Lastly, would you agree that the best approach for studios to take is one that in the era of DVDs they are already taking, which is to provide anime with both English dubbed and Japanese-with-subtitles options?

    Just curious.
Life has no subtitles. Support your English voice actors.

And I think it sounds great, yet another example of how this is a YMMV issue. I mean, I slightly prefer the Higurashi sub, but Keiichi sounds less annoying in the dub IMHO.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but this is wrong. I watched Code Geass subbed online, then got the DVDs(I still watch it subbed on the DVDs usually.) but the sub they have is just different. They translate the speech different That's why is not the same. As for what they say, it would be more annoying if the mouths didn't match at all.

I can't even watch Higurashi subbed. I guess it's whatever you watch first. I agree though, it's mostly because of Keiichi.

I actually prefer dubs in most cases, but I can admit that Japanese voice actors do good alot. I just used to hsve dial up internet and only got to watch dubs on TV, so I'm just more used to it.

I stick to the subbed versions. The only dubbed anime I watched was my first, SailorMoon. But like some said, not all of the american dubs are as awful. It's a matter of taste, really. I personally like the original voices, but saying that all dubs suck is a bit wrong (especially if an american says that; not very patriotic)

If you're hardcore and that much of a purist, sure. Admittedly I have learned Japanese to a small extent where I can watch *some* anime without subtitles-but I generally rely on subs anyway. It's not easy-but then again taking that much of an interest can make you more culturally aware too. Learning the language could eventually instigate more interest into the culture as a whole so you'd be able to understand the finer nuances that they portray in a given anime that most other people don't understand.

No, actually. ::rubs her head:: Unless you're watching something with a crazy amount of talking in it and an equal amount of crazy action, not at all. I've heard this argument before-and I've been carefully looking at anime on the whole with that thought in mind...From what I've seen-when the characters are speaking there's nothing much going on on the screen except for mouth movement or bouncing from one character to another and nothing much else is happening. There are those "flashback" simulations, where things are being explained as you watch them happen, but on the whole those shouldn't be a problem unless the person watching has a deficiency in reading.

Lastly, would you agree that the best approach for studios to take is one that in the era of DVDs they are already taking, which is to provide anime with both English dubbed and Japanese-with-subtitles options?
Tbh, I think most do do that already...Bi-lingual DVDs. I haven't run across a recent licensed DVD yet that wasn't bi-lingual. )Not that I purchase them...I wouldn't and I can't afford $25 for only 2-4 eps per disc anyway. Total rip. @_@;; ) But anyway...They do do that. : P

When are you shopping, 2005? Most anime series come straight to half-sets at $40-60 MSRP (which with good sales are often reduced to $25-40), of course generally only FUNi and Viz's sets will be bilingual with most of Sentai and Nozomi being sub-only. Only Bandai and Media Blasters still do 4-5 episodes singles, the former now releasing in two-single packs for a lower price, and while the latter does charge fully-priced singles their boxsets come out so soon after it's a non-issue really.

Unless you live in Japan, in which case yes they still charge insame prices, but importing is always an option.

Thanks Dio, you made me Lol today. Its been a while since I've lol'd at anything on here. A really good spot to buy anime box sets for cheap is Amazon. Crazy deals on there.

Anyways now directing my comments towards the opening.. I do infact like dubbed anime. I could really care less if its not as good as Japanese subbed anime because I'm happy I can actually understand them, but then again the subtitles usually help me with that problem and after a while I can barely tell if I'm reading them anymore because it feels like the subtitles are sucked into the background of the show.

An english dubbed anime which the voice acting was amazing was Fooly Cooly, great show in my opinion. The original Pokemon [seasons 1 - 6] was also really good and Azu Manga Daioh also had good voice acting.

To answer the OP's question (since this thread really isn't about preference; we have done that already...several times), I do like dubbed anime. Some are good some are bad, but I can say the exact same thing about the Japanese versions of the same anime; some are good and some are bad. I really don't have preferences between which language I watch my anime in.

While this has been stated by people who do not like dubs, I will say them again (note: when I say "some people", I am not necessarily referring to people on this forum as I haven't read all the posts).

The reason why some people do not like dubs varies. Usually its because of the effect of SOME dubs being bad (namely 4Kids), causing the rejection of basically all dubs. While this justifies the rejection of the dubbed anime by those companies, it doesn't justify the rejection of all dubs (as some people have said, this makes no sense) in my honest opinion.

The other main reason would be because of purist views, that really the only (real, proper, true, whatever word they want to use) way to watch anime is in Japanese. This really only makes sense if one is fluent in Japanese to understand the subtleties that occur in the language that cannot be translated or would cause a change in translation. Sorry, but I find that "the sentences do not match" to be a rather poor excuse, considering that the only way most people find out about this is by watching subs, which may or may not be professional, on the Internet.
    This is my war face.

This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.

Yeah, Amazon is cheap. There's a one through five percent chance of it being a bootleg, but you have to check their reception first. I got all 48 episodes of Baki the Grappler for 10 dollars. You're probably just not surfing hard enough on the internet for good deals.

Nope. Not at the moment. Bills and living costs eat up most of my money, and all my "disposable" income-is geared toward those little annoying things like-maintaining my car, and repairing things around my house and what have you. I can't waste anything I have money wise on buying anime. :\ It's totally impractical for me at this stage.

i'm a sub only guy. not a fan of american voice actors. the same douchebag plays a major role in a bunch of different anime just because he's banging the producer.

Both, it all depends on what voices I like more. Though, admittedly, due to the amount of anime I've watched, most of them where in Japanese since they don't reach American shores. If I find an anime has come to the US I check and see if I like the voices, if not I watch it subbed, if I do then I'll watch the dubbed. Though I will not watch any anime that is done by 4Kids or Funimation. Funimation is especially notorious for doing more then simply dubbing it. The Yu-Gi-Oh series is a prime example of that. That series alone was heavily modified with many parts being changed and I believe some where even just out right removed so it could be shown to kids. It's got some darker elements to it if you watch it in Japanese.
