I'd like to say I'm a lurker here, but that's not quite accurate. I have made extensive use of animelyrics to gain better understanding of anime songs through the years though.

I have a very rudimentary grasp of Japanese, though I'm always learning(slowly), and always bugging my brother to explain stuff(or he will explain it if I mispronounce it). I didn't watch all that much anime through the 90s, though I did catch a few. These days I have access to Animax Asia, so I have a better overall grasp of anime(though I'm not so dedicated as to go hunting down "the latest" like some folks might, and work limits the time I can spend watching it anyway).

I dunno about "like" per se. I've watched much of Ranma, more or less all of Shaman King, Godannar, Kita-he, Baka & Test, Ika-Musume, Coppelion. Service is fine, but generally there has to be a good storyline(or enough ridiculousness) to keep my attention.

The manga is much better. I have the Taiwan version translated into Chinese, which keeps about 90% of the Japanese spirit. Anime's alright, but the random "XXX school of Martial Arts" fillers started to get on my nerves. Also, the English dub of Shampoo has the most grating voice ever(as well as the most off-key Nihao I have ever had the displeasure of listening to)

What are your favorite anime songs, by the way?

Quite a few. I generally enjoy most of the songs of most series I watch. I also enjoy some which might be considered "unusual" for someone of my description(eg, the first ED of Pretty Rhythm:AD, all the songs from Kita-e Diamond Dust Drops). I kind of wasn't interested in Baka and Test at first, but then saw the episode where Akira shows up, so made an effort to catch it again when they repeated it. Enjoyed it. I generally like the more upbeat songs(Brave Heart from Shaman King, Happy GO Lucky from PR:AD), though a well-paced melancholy song has its place(Zangou no Hitsugi from Godannar, for example). It might also depend on what scenes I associate with the song. Eg. Hill of Sorrow is so-so to me, but I associate it with the scene with Ayame's Void in Guilty Crown, so it's good.

It seems like you could be a budding transliterator for Animelyrics. =) It actually helps a lot when it comes to researching kanji and the uncommon/in-depth grammatical stuff. It's also a fun and interesting way to get to know the lyrics of your favorite J-Pop/Rock/Anime songs. So you may wanna give it a try eventually~.

Ahh Shaman King. The anime itself was pretty bleh, but I loved the manga. It's one of my favorites, up there with Fullmetal Alchemist. The storyline is way more riveting and intense. And Hao Asakura isn't a complete arrogant asshat in the manga. Lol. So if you thought the anime was a bit lacking, I bet you'd feel a lot better after reading it instead.

Honestly, I'm not nearly that good. I can sorta read it, and my brain will flip it about so the grammar makes sense, but half the time I'm just parsing stuff through Google Translate so I don't wind up saying Rairai Dani instead of Kurugaya.
