Did the actual anime series have flaws? Yes, but I love it. I'm also a huge fan of the whole "franchise"...loved the manga, esp. love the Dramatics and Radio show, most esp. love the seiyuu unit as well as the seiyuu individually, and even more love for the OVAs Verbrechen and Strafe. And though I'd rather forget the whole Glühen saga, I did appreciate that series as well.

I think it is a tie for many shows.
If you went by Genre it would be easier but ultimately there are just too many great one to pick only one and say it stands out above the rest For me some of the tops are (and these aren't all) Action-Black lagoon Romance-Ah! My Goddess Mecha-Gundam Seed Sci Fi-Ghost in the Shell, Gunslinger Girl Comedy-FLCL Vampire-Hellsing Ultimate Alternative History-Samurai Champloo

I never got what all the Hate over Gundams was for.I mean I watched some of the other supposedly "Brilliant" Mecha series like Evangelion and Rahxephon etc and simply found them to be overhyped and while not always boring they were nothing for me to go over the top with enjoyment over. I dunno but Gundam always seemed like a better story for me (And the Mecha fights were cooler).

Best anime series I would have to go with either FMA or Cowboy Bebop. Eventhough I do like FMA Brotherhood better than the orginal series since it follows the magna more closely. I'll also give a shout out to Code Geass.

I mean I will easily concede that the seed Destiny Saga was basically a poorly written sequel that had little coherency but the rather uncomplicated Gundam Seed storyline combined with a good look of the animation made it more enjoyable for me then say some of the older Gundams where they were at times so convoluted you need a massive Org Chart just to figure out which title went where in the series. However in the end with this kind of "What is the greatest" it is all down to personal opinion. Like the old saying "One mans trash is anouther mans treasure" in the end it is going to be people listing their favourite without any real way to Judge which is greater or lesser. The ones I put were exactly that. They were shows I have seen that have stood out in their genres that I enjoyed. To call them the greatest is pointless as you yourself showed how ideas of greatness vary from person to person (and even within the selections of the same person like mine show). We may agree on some things but you show a "greatest" and I can show you people who will absolutely despise it.

I don't think I've seen enough anime to say but I think Cowboy Bebop and the original series of Pokemon are way up there.

What do you mean by greatest? In terms of plot? Animation technicality? Entertainment? Influence on the world? Plot: Haven't decided. Animation technicality: Appleseed Ex Machina Entertainment: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I mean, the entire series is a massive adrenaline rush. Kampfer is another very entertaining series for me. Influence on the world: I have yet to see another series that's so popular there are planes painted with it. Pokemon takes the cake.

Gundam has always been known for being complex, "deep", military dramas. Gundam SEED was a simple, shallow, highschool drama. If anything, it's a good example how how dumbed-down anime in general has become.

Some people love to argue how terrible of a series K-ON! is, but every series has flaws. It's a decent anime, in all aspects. The main catching points of the series are the fact that almost every character is a moeblob and that the music is awesome. The series does have a plot, but it's a simplistic one and really isn't that exceptional. I just love a good random comedy.
