Originally Otomedius was released in Japan as an arcade machine. Then came Otomedius Gorgeous (or Otomedius G) for Japanese XBox360s (and supposedly has additional features for the home console that wasn't on the arcade). No North American release sadly. Finally they decided to make an Otomedius game for XBox360 with Japanese release AND plans for North American release! It is called Otomedius X (and will be called Otomedius Excellent in North America). FINALLY Americans will be able to play this game. It isn't a US release of a previus Otomedius game but rather a whole new game that will be a sequel to Otomedius Gorgeous. It was to be released in Japan in September of 2010 but has been pushed back to being some time in the Spring of 2011 in Japan. Of course this also means a delay of the US release (just hope they don't completely cancel the US release altogether, or I'll be VERY VERY ANGRY).
Now what is it about? It is a game made by Konami, who also made Gradius. By the name Otomedius you probably already guessed it has something to do with Gradius. Indeed it does. Instead of featuring fighter jet sized Vic Viper and other space craft though, it has MMU sized "ships" (including one based on the Vic Viper design). And they are piloted by attractive teenage anime girls. By the way, "otome" is the Japanese word equivelant to the English word "maiden" or "virgin".
