The Prices of new releases, and their effect on the industry.

How do you feel about console games costing $60 when they're released? Is it too much? Would it be better to partition content and lower the cost by up to half, or even make simpler games that are easier to produce? (much as the DS has done; and it appears to be extremely successful)

If prices are in that range, the games have better be epic. It's motivated to put tags in that range on Bioware titles, and maybe some other major high-quality game studios. But honestly, most games just aren't worth prices like that.

Some games are really good, however with too many games on a close line-up, it really makes for the consume difficult to buy multiple games with the $60 bucks price tag, but other than that, I don't really mind paying $60 bucks for games, just went I'll have to buy more and that's where it gets too expensive, I could pay for it but that's still $120 off my wallet...instead of let' $80 if I buy, let's say Continuum Shift and Super Street Fighter 4.

I got Little Big Planet for $30 bucks and it had $30 worth of DLC, so a $90 bucks deal for $30 bucks...they should do that more often. ^^

The reason why they do it I think is because more effort goes into making the games or because the game is going mainstream so they put the price up which me personally they shouldn't do =S Nintendo 64 games used to cost around £80-£90 at one point D= I hope games now don't get that bad.

Game of the Year Edition of LBP cost 30 bucks which included 30 bucks worth of DLC. A person who bought the game when it came out payed 60 bucks for the game and then payed more for the DLC, so they payed more than 60 bucks while I payed a lot less, get it now?

60 bucks is a bit much. 50 was kinda pushing it, but I'd already gotten used to it. There's no way I'm chipping out 10 more bucks for a game that probably isn't worth it.What with every game starting to fail me, I'll probably wait until they hit 35ish before I buy them. Some special cases will still be brought immediately though >_>

I dont mind chucking out 60 bucks to buy a game. The creators have to get paid for their time and I'm sure with the better technology and systems it takes longer for them to make sure the game is playable. So I dont mind as long as the game isnt crap, but the internet and X-Play prevents you from making a terrible mistake like that. Gamespot, Ign etc etc.

I like renting new games for a few bucks and beating them with a purpose before I have to take them back.

I really only buy games that I know I'll want to play with friends for months afterwards. ex. (StarCraft II, Halo Reach, SSFIV, Red Dead Redemption)

This mitigates my cost gripes considerably, so I guess it really doesn't affect me too much. 60$ is about 15-20$ too expensive, especially in an extremely successful medium. Obviously I'm speaking from a selfish perspective, because if I was a game exec. I'd charge 60$ too if people are willing to pony up the dough.

I'd say the effect is pretty noticeable when you look at how publishers are fighting used games sales (which didn't seem like a problem to them last console gen). $60 for 1 game has caused people to look for lower-priced alternatives such as used games, retail sales specials, renting games, and/or wait until a title's price drops.

50 bucks was pushing it for a lot of people, and raising game prices to $60 really did it (not to mention the economic conditions alone). The only time people are willing pay top price is for a popular game they know and love, or it holds a lot of play time and content.

The rising game development costs on the business side, and the lack of a need to pay for a top priced title from consumers only made things worse. The publishers are trying to find alternative revenue through casual gaming, free-to-play models, and DLC.

The PS3 and 360 games are just too costly to make, and I think that's why so many 3rd parties were so adamant at trying to be successful on the Wii. However that hasn't worked out and they're trying to keep they're companies alive, which means exhausting existing IPs, bad DLC that should be on disc, and killing off developers who don't make succesful games their 1st or 2nd time around.

I honestly don't mind buying a video game for $60 dollars, because it is endless entertainment that you can play whenever you want to unless you mess the game up or the gaming console.
