Opposite Sex in the Bathroom

I have been working at Macy's for a while now, and one of my jobs involves light placement (changing the light bulbs, pointing the lights in the best places, etc). When I was being trained in changing the bulbs (because one can really hurt themselves if they don't know how), one of the guys was showing me how to change the ones in the women's restroom, which of course requires him to be in the women's restroom with me. While he didn't seem to mind being in there, some of the women turned around and walked out of the restroom when they saw him there, while others just ignored him and went about their "business".

So what would you do? If you saw someone of the opposite sex standing there in the bathroom, would you turn around and leave or would you just ignore them?

LOL. This reminds me of a prank me and my friends did. Last year at highschool my friend had an idea, the idea was to stand in the girls restroom and just stand there and chill, ofcourse our meaning with this prank was to see how the girls would react.

And trust me i've never been through anything funnier than that moment, me and my m8s sat in the girls restroom playing cards (blackjack) And then 1 girl entered the bathroom, suddenly she stopped moving and just stood there looking at us while we pretended not to notice her (we kept playing blackjack), her actions did nothing but to suprise us, she just looked away and went to the bathroom to do whatever she needed to do. She walked out and washed her hands and then just went away, not doing anything.

I laughed for like an hour or something.. haha, i just laugh whenever i think about that moment..

well, the polite thing to do is knock on the door and ask if anyone is in there. If they are, then you're supposed to wait until everyone is out.

At least, that's the protocol I follow when I have to clean the restrooms at work.


now, as far as actually seeing someone of the opposite sex in the bathroom, it would be important to not be rude and let them know that they're in the wrong restroom. Even though I personally think that bathrooms should be unisex, I'd still say as such because current social customs dictate it.

And depending on my mood I would probably ask them if they had some time on their hands.

At my school no one is allowed in the restroom when a custodian is cleaning the restroom and a woman has to supervise if it is a male doing the job in a womans bathroom and vice versa for a female cleaning the males. But thats for the school so it's understandable.

However if I walked into any other bathroom and saw a man in there without appearing to have much of a purpose I'd simply turn white and walk back out and find another restroom. Though if it was a teen or kid I'd be more laxed about it. Since I've been in a womans restroom before and a boy about my age was in there hanging out outside the stalls while his GF was doing her business but I didn't really mind that too much. But an older guy would pose a problem for me at my age @_@

I've never used a men's bathroom, but as long as they weren't doing anything questionable besides their "business", I wouldn't really care. It's just a bathroom.

First, I wanna know how you can hurt yourself changing light bulbs.
Secondly, I might wonder why they're in the mens restroom then go about my business never to remember. There's been plenty of times I went in the women's restroom because the mens was full or out of order and they stared at me really weirdly....almost...like I shouldn't have been in there. But they got over it after I left. And so did I.

When I was younger I worked in Subway and I had to clean up the girl's bathroom. While cleaning, this really hot chick went in even if I had placed the dustpan holding the door open so people know an employee is cleaning the place. I said "hello there" with a smile and she smiled back.
So I stopped working and left so she can use it.

Doesn't really bother me, though I think it's more uncomfortable for people when it comes to male rest rooms since we tend to use urinals and you know what that means. Though I do remember one of my elementary schools making a big issue out of this when one of the male rest rooms got shut down, I believe due to flooding, and we had to use the womens bathroom on the second floor. The school stated that teachers had to to be there while we were going to the bathroom. This went on for about a week.

Well, first, we use special bulbs to create ambient light in the women's restroom (don't ask me about the men's, because I haven't been in there). These bulbs are pretty fragile and shatter LIKE HELL!!

Second, one has to use a ladder in order to access the panels that house the lights. Since Macy's has had to deal with less than intelligent people in the past, they felt that it was necessary to train people on how to use ladders and how to work while standing on top of them.

Depends on what I was in there to do. If I just wanted to drain the snake, I'd go ahead and do it. If a chick goes out of her way to see something I don't really care. Maybe it's a new way to meet people.

However, if I was looking to drop a bomb, I wouldn't do it with anyone else around, male or female.

It doesnt bother me because I worked at Walmart, no one that goes there cares which bathroom they go in, seriously no joke.

There was a few times I walked in the mens room and I saw a few women putting n lipstick, I asked why the were in there and they said "ares is full."

Avoid urinals for me too. In the off chance somehow its an old lady that might appear confused or disoriented, Id either ask if shes ok or leave the restroom to find someone to better assist me with the situation.

Yeah, this concept never leaves you after elementary school. Either some guys try to shove you into the girls restroom or girls pulling you in, all to see if they can get you in trouble. Which for some, they do, without being able to defend their case.(none of which I fall in these categories) I bring this up for the simple fact that its these early situations and rules given to us by authority figures that set the standards for a kind of gender segregation in a social world.

Should there be more unisex bathrooms? I believe so. Is the majority of us all mature enough and better educated to except them? Not even close. The most extreme reactions are women screaming and men whistling when the other sex is in a place meant for private business. The milder reactions are still that of uncomfortable awkwardness or walking out.

I'm not really uncomfortable anymore since there are about 4 or 5 co-ed bathrooms around my college campus but I refuse to "drop a bomb" if someone is in there.

Bathroom speed dating. Its the latest craze! You get to yell through the walls of your smelly urine covered cubical to the person either side of you for 60 seconds before moving on to another cubical in the opposite bathroom. Its 21st century baby yeah!
