May I ask why so many of us are suggesting harem anime? You know, those series filled with fanservice and sexual innuendo? These series aren't for kids.

Try Doremon or some of Ghibli's works more suited for younger children, like the adventure movie Castle in the Sky and the classic My Neighbor Totoro.

Hey, I was just saying. Am I really supposed to scour her posts just to find out her age when she could simply have corrected me. Besides, age is not necessarily an indicator of maturity (and before you comment on why I threw out the age 15, I was going by the average behavior of a 15 year old, which by my observation is just before girls go sex crazed at 16 for some unknown reason, possibly due to junior prom).

There seems to be a lot of arguing going on in this thread (wow...honestly). I am not going to get involved (maturity levels draining fast enough for some anyway), so lets get to your question.

Well, let me start by saying that if you believe that she is "mature for her age", why did you feel the need to inform us of her age (or that you are looking for something "suitable" for her, despite this maturity)? Something tells me that you may be over estimating the maturity of your niece since most people say that about their kids until they see Berserk and are scarred for life.

Anyway, since you are talking about a ten year old, I am not about to recommend ANYTHING that hasn't been licensed yet (eg Powerpuff Girls Z) as that would have no point. As a general rule of thumb, if you are looking for anime for children, stay out of the anime aisle. Crazy as it may sound, but child-friendly anime is hardly ever found in the anime section (unless it is something new); it will be in the children's section (Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc). Even some Studio Ghibli films are found in the children's section (since Disney distributes them) and you can never go wrong with those...

...Except maybe Pom Poko, where a bunch of raccoon dogs are hitting each other and humans with their ball sacks (NOT...EVEN...JOKING). Depends on the maturity level of the person.

Seriously people, arguing like this will only lead to bans. Anyways, I like how wolfgirl90 added Digimon. That's a fantastic children's anime, and it's actually good, unlike Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh (I'm guessing a 10 year old will be wanting a dub because reading is ikky to her). I also know an interesting series of shorts called Mr. Stain on Junk Alley, but you might want to watch one first before deciding. To be honest, the anime for Jing: The Bandit King wouldn't be a bad idea either, but one to check out and decide on first.

I LOVED Digimon as a kid (and still pretty much do; there was a new one that premiered a few days ago). Hell, if it weren't for that show, I certainly wouldn't have learned certain things, like how "Myotis" (from Myotismon) is a genus of bat. You can learn some stuff from that show.

When it comes to the other anime that some people have mentioned (and that some people felt the need to argue and insult each other about), there is a personal value that applies here that I firmly believe in: that something only becomes an issue when it is made into an issue. Homosexuality is an issue for some, fine. Cross dressing is an issue for some, fine. However, this is only because people have made it into one. Personally, I have no problem whatsoever with those things, hence the reason why I see no problem with Ouran High School Host Club being shown to children (Haruhi's father being a transvestite is just about THE ONLY THING weird in that show) or having children see Sailor Moon and the relationship that Michiru Kaioh and Haruka Tenoh (Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus, respectively) share (we all know that they are lesbians, okay?). Japan has VERY different views on homosexuality and transsexualism than we do (as far as showing them in public), so many anime from Gurren Lagann to One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood have characters like that.

The above value is also the reason why I still recommend the Studio Ghibli film Pom Poko to children, despite the prominence of testicles found in the movie (because of the tanuki in Japanese folklore). If you want to make that an issue, fine, but I honestly have no problem with that.

If people disagree, fine, but let it be known that I simply disagree with you as well, and that I am not about to judge you for it or bash your religion (whatever it may be) because it is different from mine. It will be up to the OP to determine what is appropriate in the long run.

What's the point? Real porn is mostly aimed at men anyway. You don't have to be "immature" to dislike porn, you can just find it tasteless because it doesn't appeal to you.

I'll have you know that I'm well past that age (try ADULT) and I've never gone through a "sex-craze" YET. I didn't even go to prom...I wasn't interested, didn't have a boyfriend, and didn't want to go with just a friend because.......it's weird. My hormones were like a normal teenaged girl's but I didn't act on them...because I believe sex should only be after marriage. I didn't want to end up like a majority of the losers in my school who were unmarried mothers by the age of 17. =_= Sluts.

When I was ten years old, my friends were emerging from the "girls are icky" stage, and some boys even began the puppy-love scene. Many of our dreams (for example: living together in a "no girls" mansion) we learned we had to give up not because of puberty, but because it would become a statement of our sexuality to our peers. Terms of companionship had to change.

Basically, having to worry about sexual preferences at 10 sucks (or any age before puberty). It's different for girls though (I guess).

I'm going to suggest Tenchi Muyo! and it's spin offs. I'd like to recommend Dragon Ball but there's too many sexual innuendos early on. There's also the movie Spirited Away which she might enjoy. Fullmetal Alchemist, I'm sure she could develop a crush over Ed. Groove Adventure Rave, it's a light hearted adventure. That's as far as I can take it. Any other suggestions would be even more action oriented then these or are Japanese only. I doubt she's capable of paying attention and reading at the same time. Don't mean to be mean but I doubt any ten year old could do that.
