I played a HSOTD rpg once, which was my introduction. I like zombie survival and the game was fun.

looked up youtube clips. Saw more boobie jiggling than I did zombies. Yeah, I'm probably not even going to attempt to watch. Unless there is as much fanservice for females as there apparently is for the males, it isnt really even worth considering for me.

It looked good from the first few episodes, but there's just too much over-the-top-ecchi for me to handle. I love Zombies as well @_@ RESIDENT EVIL!

Fun, campy and over the top little series. I'm really happy to see it gain such a dedicated following since there are very few, notable zombie type manga out there. I haven't seen the anime, so I can't comment on that. The wait between chapters is a little bit discouraging though. It's been a chapter every 4-5 months. Painful.

I have a few episodes of it and whenever I watch it, I get too scared I get paranoid that I don't even want to get out of my room anymore. You know! that crazy feeling...

I really loved the series the only thing I didnt like about it was all the ecchi, even though im a guy it was just excessive, I think if they had leaned away from it and focused more on a deeper relationships with the girls without all the falling down into crazy positions that reveal themselves to the main character... my favorite character is saeko (samurai girl).... anyways I thought it was very well done even if it got of track a few times and give it 4 4/5 stars

Finished this one up a little while ago. I definately love zombie shows! They did go over the top with fan service... like I wouldnt want to watch it with anyone else around. Wish it continued on longer, and with a few less panty shots.

Alot of the best anime has Ecchi scenes. Its just the way the world of anime works half the time. I wouldnt have changed High School Of The Dead.
It was brilliant.

HOTD is awesome. Although it contains an excessive amount of ecchi, the emotional & action scenes contrast the sexual nature of the story very well. I haven't read the manga yet, but after finishing the first season and the OVA, I'm thinking I should start the manga soon.

I've always been a big fan of everything zombie apocalypse. Not only that, I guess I would be considered a Gun "Otaku" seeing how I'm an NRA member and own many rifles, shotguns, and handguns for recreation and hunting, so the firearm references in the anime often made me more happy than anything else.

The characters are very relatable. They all have their strengths and weaknesses:

Takashi is a brave and admirable guy, but he also shows evidence in a lack of self-confidence. He backs away from being considered the leader of the group, even though he seems to be the natural choice.

Kohta is an all-around badass m-f'er. Despite his less than spectacular physical/athletic abilities, his expertise with weaponry makes him indispensable seeing how no other character in the group is familiar with firearms. Even if the characters did, over time, become familiar with guns... the anime has led me to believe Kohta has natural talent in handling firearms just like how Saeko has natural talent with the katana. Notice how both Kohta and Saeko display a deep and intense sadistic side to their personality in the anime. This sadistic side must have developed because of an inferiority complex that grew in his psyche after a lifetime of being picked on for being a fat otaku.

Speaking of Saeko, she is also an all-around badass m-f'er. She is as talented with the katana and hand-to-hand combat as Kohta is with his AR-10 rifle. She is obviously sadistic, but only to those that intend to harm her. Her weakness may be that she is TOO bad donkey... to the point where she believes herself not worthy of love. She strikes me as someone who, in the real world, would be quite unapproachable despite her stunning looks. A loner who seeks affection. A hardshell with a soft inside.

Rei is an interesting character since she has had an interesting past with Takashi. Having left him to be with another guy since Takashi was a wussy wishy-washy type of guy back in the day, there are both bitter and romantic tones to her current relationship with Takashi. Her weakness may be an emotional one, since I would not like to imagine how badly she would break down if, lets say hypothetically, Takashi died. She'd probably kill herself.

Saya is a brat, but uncomparable on an intellectual level. In a time of confusion and chaos, her IQ and real-world knowledgeability brings intelligence into a world of animalistic instincts. She has spunk and quite a temper, and it spices up the often level-headedness of the other characters. Her interactions with Kohta is also an interesting one. We'll just have to see how far it will develop. My guesses are that although Kohta may not be appealing physically, his fiery personality (and the fact he's saved her life multiple times) has made her atleast admire him, if not have a tinge of romantic interest.

Shizuka is a big-titted nurse who is useful in administering medical treatment for injuries. Alice is a young girl and the epitome of innocence in a bastardized world full of debauchery. Zeke is a cute dog.


I haven't read the manga yet like I've said, but I just finished watching the OVA.
The OVA was ridiculous, but in a good way. What I've learned from the OVA:

Saya has incestual feelings for her mom (LOL)
Shizuka has sexual feelings for her purple-haired military sniper "friend" (LOL)
Saeko and Rei got it on (HELL YEA)
Takashi wants to have a five-some (HELL YEA)
Kohta needs a better sex doll than a broom (LOL)
and Hydrangea is some strong sh!t





As far as when the next season of HOTD will start (if ever), I've heard from multiple sources that a second season will come out this year (2012). It was confirmed at an anime expo this winter by the makers of the anime that there will be a second season BEYOND the OVA. There is a video on youtube that specifically shows the makers of the anime saying "yes, there will be a second season". I'm crossing my fingers that they will keep their promise unlike School Rumble with their "third" season. As with the manga, I understand that the author(s) of the manga frequently take long hiatus between each volumes, and that this hiatus seems to be the longest of them all. Seeing how popular the series is, I doubt the author(s) will stop. I've also heard the main author was hospitalized for a rather long period of time during the hiatus? In either case, he can make big dough with new HOTD chapters so he can pay for his medical expenses

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this but.. Is it me or was the English Dub of HOTD a big disappointment? I've watched the Japanese version as it was being released. LOVED EVERY EPISODE! I just recently purchased the complete series, (so far) and I was really excited to see how well the English Dub was going to be. Some areas were pretty good and other areas were alright but I wasn't really thrilled with it as I wanted to be. Still.. I'm glad I made the purchase cause in this case, nothing beats the original japanese cast.

From what I heard about a second season, I was told that some of the japanese cast were killed during last years disaster. Though I could never find out for certain. But I am hoping that what @Bassmaster360 said is true.

I started reading the manga, and it truly brings a new depth to the story compared to the anime.

The anime was 10/10 great, but the manga is out of this world. AWESOME!

I've also heard about that some of the cast died during the earthquake disaster, although it could entirely be a rumor as many things about HOTD during the past year has been (remember the sept. 2011 second season rumor that spread like wildfire?).

I've seen the anime in both original japanese and the dubbed english, and i personally thought the dubbing was pretty good. The english dubbing also altered some of the original script to make it even more awesome, like the "sarah palin" line of episode 6. Although I agree there were some parts that seemed unemotional during scenes that were supposed to be emotional, dubbing is never a 100% consistent process, so in terms of relevance to other anime dubbing, HOTD is a good one.

Good manga - allthough the hiatus phases are just awfull.

Anime was quite good - allthough I sometimes had to laugh how much over the top it was - a bunch of 16-18 years old highschool students turn into the super zombie assasination squad and slaughter through hundreds of Zombies while everyone else get turned into a zombie meal....

I've never watched anything 'Ecchi before' as I've always been the 'pure' one of my group. But I was really bored one day, and it kept popping up on my Netflix so I decided to give it a go. I was surprised to find myself sucked in and I sat and watched the entire first season. I loved the characters, especially Saeko, and I am hoping for a second season. I may just go read the manga soon as well.

I loved the little jokes about western zombie films and all of that.

I love zombie shows too. And I totally agree with you about the over-excessive panty shots. Usually, I get excited whenever I see a flash of panties come across the screen but there were so many times throughout the series they would literally show them for no reason at all. Like in the middle of a battle scene between zombies when Rei was fighting it randomly showed her bum out of nowhere. I was like wtf? However, I did find it funny that Shizuka's boobs had their own bouncing sound effect.
