Anime: Angel Beats

I'm on my second Key series right now (Kanon) and I really like their stuff so maybe I'll give Angel Beats a shot.

Episodes 1-10 episodes: Amazing
Episodes 11 and 12: Stupid, crap idea
Episode 12: I would care for it but the last few episodes ruined it for me

I started it for no reason... I really only watched it because it was funny. It's not the best anime ever, I'm not big on moe stuff, though I did like AIR. I don't have any plans to watch Kanon or Clannad but Angel Beats was alright in my opinion. The last few minutes were relatively sad but the anime never actually made me cry... I guess if cute is your thing you'd like it. Aaaand that's really all I have to say lol

I like how when this thread started almost every one was hating on Angel Beats. It is now one of the more popular anime and Kanade is one of the most popular anime characters out there. She is considered the Kuudere queen right now.

Anyways, my opinion was it was pretty dang funny, quality of the show was amazing, and when you learn the characters' stories it becomes a really good anime.

It actually was rather funny. That was the primary reason I continued watching the show. Episode 1 was somewhat amusing, and that kept me going all the way until the end. The opening is great and I appreciated the music stage scenes. They were awesome every single time, and I personally have a dislike of jpop, jrock and downright j-anything, music wise.

Unfortunately, I felt the series had an uncomfortable change of tone at a certain point. From silly comedy to a serious and sad vibe that was downright manipulative in its' attempt at trying to make the audience cry. The relationship between Kanade and the main character was seriously underdeveloped. They should have either made the series longer and fleshed out both the love story and the serious afterlife 'letting go' aspect of it, or simply left both out of the anime altogether, and leave it as a silly comedy.

I picked up Angel Beats! as a suggestion and was really very surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The simple description I was given of it didn't do the show justice. Also before going any further I want to say that an anime containing moe characters does not necessarily make it a typical moe anime (Higurashi no naku koro ni anyone?) So onto what I enjoyed about Angel Beats! As 小美ドクロchan said earlier Angel Beats! does a lot of things differently when compared to other anime.

If you try to compare it to a high school life anime like K-On, Tenjou Tenge or ToraDora (a guilty pleasure of mine) it does things a lot differently in regards to not being about just romantic relationships, who's got the best fighting moves in the school or the rigors of creating a great band. I went in thinking "Okay it's a high school anime with guns" but then I got past the third episode and was struck with the sort of emotional depth the show carried. More than the usual teenage angst there was actual weight to each characters back story. Plus it was funny and I mean legitimately funny, not just oh there are some funny/quirky moments to it.

This was the first anime in a while that has been able to have me laughing the way I did (I'm looking at you OVA). So I was really happy with it and can't wait to get my own copy of it to have and enjoy for all time, or until the Zombie Apocalypse arrives.

well.... i'm not sure about everyone else but i loved angel beats! the show did make me cry and the music was good.
