I like to enjoy a drink or two in an evening, and I love to go out to drink with friends.
However, I know about how destructive it can be. I friend of mine was a good man and very talented. He was brilliant on the guitar and owned his own studio where he made professional photos. It went down the drain however when digital photography came in.
My family used to go on holiday with him and his wife, but he kept disappearing, making excuses for why he wasn't here. Turned out he was drinking vodka. Eventually, it became so bad that his wife threw him out and he kept wandering about, drinking everyday and getting beaten up. He was treated in the hospital several times, but everytime he was discharged he went out and continued.
The habit also turned him into a liar. He kept telling people he was moving to Greece with a new girlfriend, but this was far from true. In the end, he was taken into a homeless shelter and died of a heart attack a few months back.
It was a difficult time, but I always think of him as he once was, rather than what he became.
