I would like to know if Windows XP will not be shipped along with any notebooks or computers that we buy.I'm looking into buying a new pc but would like to know if it would be better to buy vista premium . I'm not seeing much of xp around when I'm shopping mostly vista.

I still use XP and I agree with whoever said it was outdated. I don't believe it's obsolete.

You should be getting Win 7 if you're going for a microsoft OS. XP was pretty decent once, but it is rather outdated now, and since support and drivers are dwindling, I would not recommend getting it. There is no point getting a Vista machine either.

As others have said, yes it is probably a little out-of-date. However, to say it's obsolete when it still preforms and functions quite well (in my opinion) would be wasteful on my small wallet. I have been tempted to update to Windows 7, though. I just haven't found any problems yet that would require my needing to upgrade to that.

Its not obsolete just yet. The truth is many companies have switched to 7 and then switched back to xp because its cheaper and optimized for business. But if your talking about for a home pc then 7 is so much better and convenient.

It's not obsolete but it's like using a PS1 when you've downloaded all the games you play on your PS3 already. XP is slower and has more porblems than windows 7 and as many have said the drivers and support are dying out. Just save up some cash and update.

Well, it might be old, but I'd still use XP over 7. But that probably is just because XP works with my OCD better. XD

I'm using xp right now, as a matter of fact. Perhaps I should upgrade. But that would mean buying a new laptop since my current one only supports up to windows vista, and I hate vista.

I say it's outdated for the simple fact that some of the newer software and games coming out are only for Windows Vista and up.

True,,,, but what about alot of the older programs that will only run on XP?
Right now, I have XP on my desktop and my laptop. Originally the laptop had Vista and was designed hardware wise to only run Vista, but I spent $220 for XP and downgraded, and several months finding drivers that work, (and keep those on a portable drive) and am now fairly happy with it. I hated Vista! So far, XP has the functionality I need, which Vista lacked (like a menu listing for Moving a group of selected files).
If I ever get another laptop, I MIGHT try Windows 7, but I won't change over my other machines. Like mentioned before by others, I have alot of programs that aren't supported by Win 7, and some are expensive programs. I'm not going to upgrade and then have to find out if they have a upgraded version of these programs and fork out MORE money to re-buy those programs for Win7. Even now, Photoshop is still about the same price as a low-mid priced laptop. I don't have that kind of scratch, and as mentioned, I doubt many do with the economy like it is.
But I do wonder one thing? Just WHAT is the deal with the Win7 mascot? Is it really all that?

It's fairly old, now that Windows 7 is out, but I wouldn't say it's totally dead yet. Personally I hate Vista and 7, so I refuse to upgrade. I don't play too many PC games and there aren't any programs that I'm dying to have, so XP will suffice until I'm ready to get a new comp (i.e. when I actually have the money for one, heh.)

I use Windows XP, it may be an earlier version but it's less buggy than Windows Vista. As long as my computer survives I'll always have XP on it.

I liked Vista a lot i never had any problems with. I think Windows 7 is so over rated its too much like using a mac. I think that Microsoft needs to rethink the whole OS game.

7 is nothing like using a Mac.

Windows 7 is comparable to XP in stability and usability. It is what Vista should have been to begin with. With Vista as the other option there was a reason to cling to XP but now that 7 is out it will begin to disappear. There's also the fact that XP is only useful with the 32-bit version as the 64-bit version never got proper support and drivers were scarce. Vista was the only real way to go 64-bit and as others have said it was terrible.

GG - Don't confuse Windows XP Mode with the Compatibility Mode which every version of 7 has and is useful when installing older applications.

As I assume many of us here are students, there are other ways to get Windows 7 at a discount. I know the ME department at my University was offering free licenses to students for Windows 7 Professional so check with the IT department at your school.

Microsoft also has a deal for students to get Windows 7 and Office 2010 for cheap. You can get Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for $30, Office 2010 for $80. The only thing you need is an "edu" email address so I'm not sure if they'll work with high school students.

It will be some tome tol P truly dies. There are still to many devices that can benefit from smaller modified versions of XP. These may include some netbooks, and other small tablit devices. While Windows 7 did make it easier for these devices XP still remains. The other major reason is due to corporations. There are still a lot of companies that relay on Windows XP because this is what they have always used. For them to upgrade would not only cost far to much financially. It would require training of most employees. This to would be a huge cost. Though sometime they will be forced to upgrade to whatever the standards are to ensure they can use support.

    Maybe it's already dead?

I'll tell you what, I personally find that it's very obsolete, and if it isn't dead, needs to die soon less it hold back the rest of the tech world with it's inferiority. (Though, I still use it on BOTH my laptop, and desktop xDD)

True fact, XP is the reason Firefox is so insecure right now. :3
Mozilla builds Firefox to be aimed at XP users. Thus, they don't use newer security features. This will be changing in the future though, don't worry.

    Opinions?
This post is like, copy-pasted from a thread I made in another forum! Almost word for word... Creepy. TTATT *feels stalked*

Windows XP is obsolete. Saying it's not obsolete because it still works is like saying that wiping your teeth with a do-rag is not obsolete compared to using a tooth brush.

In my opinion windows XP is not obsolete windows 7 has more issues than most people realize cause i have one and i prefer windows XP just due to the fact that it's a reliable os and dosen't crash unless i do something to make it XD.
In life we expect things to go the way that they are supposed to. But it never does when things go bad we go to our friends, our family for help and support to get through the tough times. take care of your family and don't burn your bridges you'll regret it later on

    No.
New computers- those sold with 7- are much more powerful than old computers- those sold with XP. That is the cause of your speed disparity, possibly along with the age of XP installations.

On the other hand, if you know a way to get Windows 7 installed onto a computer with 256 MB of memory, a 20 GB hard drive and a single-core processor around 900 MHz, and you can make it run faster than XP on the same hardware, I will hail you as The Messiah, form a fringe sect and attract plenty of other geeky followers to worship Your Holiness.
'Til then, 7 is a fat, power-hungry, hardware-gobbling monster of an OS.

Xp isn't "obsolete" not yet anyway. Though it is hella outdated.
    Vista is craptastic. I concur.

In other news, I don't see Windows XP being labelled as 'obselete' until two things happen: 1) DirectX 10 (or DirectX 11) becomes the standard for gaming, and 2) when Microsoft actually decides to stop putting out updates and patches for the OS (like they eventually did with 2K and 98)

Although since I haven't used XP properly in well over a year, I don't actually know if Microsoft has announced XP's end of life. All I know is that for playing DirectX9 games, XP offers far superior performance to Vista (and a little more than W7)

XP won't become outdated until at least 2015, and won't become obsolete until a new Windows OS comes along and makes it look like Win 95. And besides, even in the year 2011, there's still people using Win 98, 2000, and ME. Win 7's good, but XP will still be around for a while.
