    Default Are Newtype abilities genetic?

Just a simple question, are Newtype abilities genetic?

I was wondering if Newtype abilities can be passed on from generation to generation.

It's okay if you use any Gundam series as an example.

I wouldn't say Newtype abilities are genetic. I'm sure they could be passed down but the majority of the NT protagonist and antagonists whose parents we know of didn't inherit NT abilities from their parents.

Neither of Amuro Ray's parents appear to be NTs, the same goes for Kamille Bidan.

I'd say they're more along the lines of some form of "evolution", humans becoming more adept to machines and computers, and their brains adapting as such. As such it became a latent ability and some people, those who piloted mobile suits frequently or who were pushing both themselves and their mobile suits to their limits, were able to "unlock" it as a part of their subconscious.

The flaw here would be that this theory doesn't include Lala, who seems to have developed Newtype abilities prior to having been a pilot...it was when Char noticed this that he took her under his wing in order to have her pilot.

I would say it's genetic and some people would get it through evolving (genetic mutation).

Hrm... Newtype abilities may indeed have a genetic element to them, but I believe the core factor behind their emergence stems from humans having ventured into space; something of a natural and yet necessary step in human evolution if you will in order to cope with the vast difference between living in space and living on the Earth.

This isn't even necessarily linked to being a mobile suit pilot or having been thrust into the flames of war. Characters such as Lala from the original Mobile Suit Gundam and the far more recent character of Banagher Links from Gundam Unicorn both display Newtype abilities before their fights begin. Bearing this in mind, it could be said that their experiences as pilots merely served as a means by which to enhance their already 'awakened' abilities.

In most cases they are Enhanced(Puro Two) or as they said, "awakened." I'd say exposure to harsh reality or torn-up past(Char, Kamille) could POSSIBLY have something to do with Newtype abilities to awaken within. Genetics? Could be but it would also depend on the situation of the child of the said Newtype parent. I'd say it's 20% genetics, 20% enhanced/boosted, and 60% on the person's conditions and reality.

I wouldn't say "in most cases". There are a good amount of Cyber Newtypes in various series but I'd say there are more authentic Newtypes.
