Hmm...I'm wondering why also. Maybe it is the "emo fad." Kids are influenced to do things, so maybe it's something kids learn from their friends who picked up on this sorta thing from the media and perceived it as "normal?"

I have a few friends who are considering that option, they wont listen to reason -___- very freaking stressful, I'm kind of a kid I guess, but I value life, I always have. Which is why I try to help so many people. It overwhelms me at times. I hate it when my friends say those things. It's stupid and just irrational! Grrrrrr >_____>; sorry, that was my stressed side. XD I'm normal now o.o ^^

It's not stupid. They just have raging emotions. Most of these kids are just saying things like this for attention. Heck if they'll actually go through with it. The problem is separating those pretending to have problems from those who really do have problems.

I think you guys are over-analyzing something uncommon. Believe it or not, being a teenager myself, and having lived in many different (American) environments, this type of behavior is the minority. While some kids joke around this way (rather morbidly), very rarely do any kids actually kill themselves and think it's cool.

Many of the kids who cut themselves are not just emo kids who want to look sad anymore. Yes, SOME are because SOME are sheeple. But some have genuinely severe psychological disorders brought on by their homelife or genetics. And of course they're not going to seek out help when everyone labels them as 'stupid'. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it isn't stupid, I'm saying if it's something that looked down upon, no one will want to admit it to fix the problem.

Hormones and the need for further attention for those teenagers you posted about, of course Most of them wont really even try it. Nothing to worry about unless they have real issues, but its usually the last person you expect to really go through with it. Hopefully you can tell when someone really needs help.

On that note, wanting to sincerely kill yourself isn't a matter of stupidity, its either hormones gone wrong (medical) or a truly horrible situation (psychological trama0, OR plants releasing chemical and hormones causing you to repeat yourself, walk backwards and kill yourself in the most intertertaining and horrible way (medical/over population). You know that shiz is real when they hang themselves.

Pedo's just aren't what they used to be. I remember when they would invite me to their vans and I would turn them down. Now they hit me up on myspace and send me pictures of their junk through picture comments. I get no respect.

Speaking from personal experience, a lot of kids who have problems don't talk about it, and there's no real "cry for help".

I never talked about it with anyone when I had those feelings. Some people knew something was wrong, but I never created drama with it. Maybe if I'd talked it out, it'd have ended much sooner?

It's not a rational thing, when it's for real. It's like a little voice whispering to you all the time. Not literally a voice, but there's some crushing force there, pushing you farther and farther down the hole, helping you destroy relationships and isolate yourself. And that little voice won't stop until you give in and end it.

Or you figure out a way to "defeat" it.

It seems to me to be a pointless cry for attention. Why the hell would people even be so dumb about something like this nowadays? I knew a girl in my high school who had serious issues in her life, mostly dealing with her brother and father beating and abusing her. She was a good person, funny, nice, good to be around, and pretty smart. She kinda reminded of the cartoon character Daria Morgendorffer. Unfortunately it seems as if luck wasn't on her side. She was raped one day and left the school for months. I even remember talking her out of committing suicide. She even told me she tried it a few times before. She has MAJOR issues going on but she told me she left her home to live in a shelter. Luckily she's doing better now. But can anybody explain to me what the hell is this "emo" thing is? I never understood this at all.
