Well...another from the "Dreams of an Insomniac" Series
A bit demented, but it ends nicely.
The God Of Pain
If you do something bad for me,
I’ll do something good for you.
That’s how it works.
The universe all evens out,
And everything is just.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
The greater the prize,
The greater the pain.
That is how I draw my power.
The thing you ask is great indeed,
And I’m afraid it’s going to hurt.
The price I ask is all your pain,
Until you feel nothing more.
Pain that you yourself must cause.
There will be blood, oh yes,
And I will guide you along the way.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
Look around, you’ll see many things,
With which to inflict pain.
Once you have paid my price,
Then I shall grant your desire.
No-one else even listens to your plea.
With that the man picked up the knife.
‘Then let us begin.’ He said.
The demon smiled in return,
And pointed a finger at the man,
‘Then let’s loosen up that skin.’
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
The man braced himself for the impact,
As he raised the blade above his head,
Then swung and sliced his wrist.
Veins were severed instantly,
And the blood did flow.
‘I’m afraid you’ll have to try much harder,
I scarce can sense a thing.’
So the man swung again and again.
His arms covered in gashes,
Pieces of flesh dropping from his arms.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
The blood flowed freely from him,
And covered the dusty floor.
Looking at the demon the man could see,
He shook his head in disappointment.
‘More I think, much more than this.’
He dropped the knife and picked up a hook,
Which he drove into his thigh.
In pain he cried out and dropped to his knees,
Agony pulsing through his muscles.
But the demon wanted more.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
He grabbed the saw and began to hack at his arm,
He sliced his way clean to the bone.
There was a grinding crack,
As the bone splintered and shattered.
But still the demon wanted more.
In a frenzy of delirium the man throws the blade away,
And grabs a hammer from the floor.
‘Yes, oh yes! You’re getting there,
But what are you to do now?
How will it end? Do you desire your prize enough?’
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
The man turns the hammer in his hand,
The hook from its rear staring at him.
He gritted his teeth and swung the hammer at his face,
The tool lodged into his eye cavity.
Bone crunched as the hammer stuck fast.
The man dropped to the floor.
The figure gestured towards the gun.
Shaking and bloodied fingers reach for the weapon.
He held its barrel to his chest and pulled upon the trigger.
The shot punched through him and showered his heart with holes.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
The room echoed with the deafening explosion.
The man lay dead, no more pain could be extracted.
The floor was sodden with filth and plasma.
The dark figure smiled and then slowly.
As he had been summoned, disappeared.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
In a private room at St. Martins Hospital,
A woman lay prostrate upon her bed.
She had already cried her heart raw.
Her hand still touching the incubation unit,
That holds the body of her dead son.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
The nursing staff and doctors have left her with her grieving,
Then slowly as if summoned,
A shadow drifts across the room and stops beside the bed.
‘You are fortunate my young friend,
To have a father that loves you so.’
As the shadow touches the young baby,
A monitor jumps into life.
A heart beat is started and a life is begun again.
The shadow then evaporates into the air
‘You were the one thing he desired and willingly paid my price.’
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
If you do something bad for me,
I’ll do something good for you.
That’s how it works.
The universe all evens out,
And everything is just.
His power is immense,
Pain is his fee.
