I like American and Foreign Authors.

    These are my favourite Authors:
    Koji Suzuki-The Ring, Dark Water
    Ryu Murakami-Audition
    Natsuo Kirino-Grotesque, Out, Real World
    MaryJanice Davidson-Undead Series
Charlaine Harris-Trueblood books (Sookie Stackhouse Mystery books)
    H.P. Lovecraft- (Horror/scifi writer in 1920's)
Edgar Allan Poe- (American poet and writer in 19th century)

There are so many authors that I love, my room is full with books. I love reading.

    Hmmm...

How did Brandon Sanderson not make anyone's list? The Stormlight Archives is going to be amazing (first book already was), and Mistborn was a lot of fun. (But with Robert Jordan popping up at least a couple times, Sanderson should make the list just for completing The Wheel of Time.)

Lois McMaster Bujold. Vorkosigan Saga, The Curse of Chalion, and Paladin of Souls. Amazing books, with fantastic character interaction.

J.K. Rowling was good with Harry Potter, but I'm waiting to see if she can keep it up. The setting for HP made up for a lot of her writing, methinks.

Michael Stackpole - if you like setting based books, he's very good. Classic Battletech and X-Wing were two of his best settings.

Timothy Zahn - Right there with Stackpole for his Heir to the Empire Star Wars series.

Brent Weeks - The Night Angel Trilogy was a great read. Working on The Black Prism.

George R.R. Martin - Kinda slow (as a writer, not the pace of his books), and brutal, but he does intrigue well.

Jennifer Roberson - The Novels of Tiger and Del - One of my favorite series of fantasy novels. The books practically speak themselves.

Sara Douglass - Despite being known as a mediocre author for The Wayfarer Redemption series, I really enjoyed her Troy Game series. It has decent character development and a bit of a twisty story that is reminiscent of Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series.

Terry Pratchett - Swords, Sorcery, Silliness, and Satire. What more can you ask for?

Other authors of mention: David Eddings, Elizabeth Moon, George Orwell (the only book I really enjoyed in my High School English classes - 1984), Kristin Britain, and Dan Brown.

On a separate set of author mentions (for webcomics with a story, because I read a lot of those) - Chris Hazelton (Misfile - my current favorite), Jeph Jacques (Questionable Content), Phil and Kaja Foglio (Girl Genius), Rich Burlew (Order of the Stick), Fred Gallagher (MegaTokyo - though he's slowed down as of late, hope he feels better soon), Ryan Sohmer (Least I Could Do and LFG), Gisele Lagace (Cool Cat Studio and Menage a 3), and Danielle Corsetto (Girls with Slingshots). Special mention should be made to Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade because they're funny, even when not story based, and a couple of really good guys for all the giving back they do.

    My 2 yen,

    Akiosama

Personally, I enjoy Ken Follett's works a lot. I believe it's his writing style. Agatha Christie is another author that you shouldn't skip.

    Charles Dickens.

Just saw the film adaptation of Great Expectations by BBC Films (2012); it was pretty good but moved at a breakneck pace. It’s currently on Netflix if anyone’s interested, but I’d recommend the book. Dickens is a master of his craft.

I like J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan. They both have great writing styles, and I really enjoyed the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus (Rick) and the Harry Potter (Rowling) series. ^_^

I like Michael Moorcock the best for fantasy, especially with his Eternal Champion series. But I also like teen vampire stuff. Nancy Collins' Vamps is my favorite.

I can't really name a favorite author because I always change my mind about this, but recently I've been completely in love with Donna Tartt after reading her first two books, The Secret History and The Little Friend. Absolutely wonderful.
